Some nice choices. I would love that Brummels set on vinyl. Cherry Red and Grapefruit in the U.K. have issued some lovely box Psych / folk sets this year.
This year was great for box sets. I purchased the Beatles Let It Be LP/CD deluxe sets, The John Lennon Plastic ONO BAND CD set, The Who's Sell Out set, and The Beach Boys Feel Flows set. All of them amazing. Iam intrigued by the Nick Cave set, I Think I'm Going Weird set which seems like a British Nuggets, The Steppenwolf and Beau Brummels sets also look interesting too. You have an incredible record LP/CD collection Mazzy!
1. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: B Sides And Rarities 2. Motorhead: No Sleep Till Hammersmith 3. Nirvana: Nevermind 30th 4. The Pop Group: Y 5. Onslaught: Force From Hell 1983-2007 6. Mott The Hoople: Mental Train (The Island Years) 1969-1971 7. Tom Petty: American Treasure 8. John Lennon: Signature Box 9. The Cars - The Elektra Years 1978-1987 As you can see most of these has been released earlier but I bought then this year Cheers from Finland
Nice overview of some great sets..I gotta get the Steppenwolf box!!! The Dylan box is so good..unexpectedly for the time period it covered..thanks Mazzy👍👍❤️❤️Glen
I love the Steppenwolf boxed set..they were the first group I ever saw live ! I was wondering if you'd mention the George Harrison boxed set. I love these videos ! Great summaries of all the albums too !
great box sets, I just can't afford to get them all. I did get the Beach Boys and Let It Be, also Joni Mitchell archive vol 2. The Beatles is my favorite. I bought two of them, broke on set up and sold separately, made enough to pay for both. Thanks for sharing Take care
One you left out - Pastor T. L. Barrett and the Youth for Christ Choir "I SHALL WEAR A CROWN" five LP box from numero Group. Given your love of gospel you may already own some of these recordings but this box is topshelf stuff. Cheers!
Hey Mazzy, Just a friendly FYI here... I'd be really grateful to you if you could give your quick listening impressions of the boxed sets & smaller compilation record sets that you review. Frequently, a more serious collector will already own the individual original releases. But how does the remixed box set compare in quality? Sometimes, remixes sound worse than the original primarily due to the use of too much compression during the remastering process. Just a simple 'great audio quality..better than the originals that I've heard' , etc. This would be very helpful to me & perhaps to many of your other viewers. Thanks, David-
It’s a photo book I edited from one of the photographers (Stephen Goldblatt) who spent a day in 1968 photographing the Beatles waking around London. Known as a Mad Day Out.
I'll have to get this Steppenwolf box set. I hear the sound is the best ever. You were right about the first two albums. Those mixes sound incredible. Good review. Just sayin
Very enjoyable insight Mazzy thanks, Only have Nick Caves but Dylan, Beau Brummels and Steppenwolf to order . My George Harrison vinyl albums boxset will suffice.
Did Apple ever issue a vinyl box set for Sergeant Peppers like they did for the White Album and Let it Be. The most I can find on Discogs is a 2 LP set which is a little pricey. Guess I will be content with the single vinyl that I have plus the mono cd box of all their albums.
Nice overview, but how could you have left out 'Listen To The River: St. Louis '71 '72 '73' by the Grateful Dead? I know we've come to expect outstanding GD box sets and this is definitely in in the Top 10 of 2021 category 😃
Surprised you didn't include the Alvin and the Chipmunks super-deluxe box set on nut brown vinyl. Includes the legendary unreleased 1967 album with Phil Spector, the Chelsea Hotel demos with Nico, and a recently discovered 1975 concert recording from the Budokan....
as you know, i love nick cave...not surprised it's your number one box set...and that concert with warren ellis is gonna be brilliant...also glad to see dylan pop up in here as well....hope you had a great thanksgiving...peace to you always my friend...rocky
I watched the Tod Haynes VU film and am half way through the Beatles Get Back. As far as bands that influenced me I would say the Velvet Underground more so, but as a child being born in the UK and living amongst the Beatles presence from 1967 - 72 maybe that was in my bones. I have to say the Peter Jackson documentary blows the Velvet Underground film out of the water and there is no comparison. Maybe I have read too much about the Velvets but I didn’t like it that much but am mesmerised and entranced by the Beatles series. Cheers
Nice choices! I would like to point out one thing you mention about the "Get Back" documentary. There are some people, who don't want to pay for Disney+. And what about us, here in Czech republic and other European states. We want to watch the doc (and we will) and be happy to pay for Disney+ and watch it. Sadly, Disney+ just show us a middle finger. So, what are our options that searching the internet for other ways?
Hey Mazzy. You’ve still got the Beau Brummels boxset’s insert box the wrong way round! The writing should be on the outside and that’s why the insert box is sticking out slightly. ‘Bothered’ me on the last video so I had to say something this time… What a box though.
@@mazzysmusic I have the DCC LP release and an early '80's pressing. I'm interested in this box set, more for the two bonus CD's. I think the alternate takes will be much better on this set, than on the previous Doors anniversary releases.
"The Who Sell Out" box set was released this year. Most of my 2021 Top 5 box sets are included here. Only my #1 is missing. The "Metallica (The Black Album)" box set. The others are: The Who, The Beach Boys, The Beatles and John Lennon. Bob Dylan just misses my Top 5.
There's a pink one, and a green one, and a blue one, and a yellow one, and they're all made out of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same... Oh, how the other half lives. I'm actually buying a box set next year! Already pre-ordered. Look forward to my Top One Box Set of 2022 video next year. I'm starting to play a Mazzy drinking game. I have to Take a shot every time you say Curated. Man, I'm steaming after this video! Cheers - Hedley

Shut up Mazzy! . Just Kidding. lol Keep up all the great work. BTW, you have an incredibly chill & pleasant speaking voice...way better than Richard Nixon's. lol
Hi Mazzy, count me among those who won't do Disney. Rsearch what they did to their IT workers back in about 2014, making them train their replacements. I can't forgive them. Hopefully I can watch at a friend's house but each person has to draw the line somewhere so no not shame on me, shame on Disney.
Some nice choices. I would love that Brummels set on vinyl. Cherry Red and Grapefruit in the U.K. have issued some lovely box Psych / folk sets this year.
Thanks for posting this timely video.
Cat Stevens 'Teaser and the Firecat' is just marvellous. A must have!

Thanks Mazzy for mentioning the Steppenwolf set (which I didn’t know about). Just ordered it from the UK.
I love the Dylan box set!! Just saw him live in Boston this past weekend. Good times.
Saw him in Providence Jay, great set!
@@casablanca2745 awesome!
Thanks again Mr. M.
Agree 100% regarding the comments about "Fashion plate" Glyn Johns. What a chill dude. Fantastic. Love ya Mazzy.
I loved his garb !!!
Loved all the box sets Dylan and Steppenwolf have my attention. Enjoyed the video well done.

Steppenwolf yes. Beau Brummels I don't know. Might be one to check out. My very best box set.....Johnny Cash's Unearthed vinyl box.

This Friday I'm picking up the Jerry Garcia Band 30th anniversary box set. I'm chomping at the bit!!
hi, can I ask what the record is with the black cover & silver writing "MAD DAY" ?
It’s a photo book I edited from one of the photographers (Stephen Goldblatt) who spent a day in 1968 photographing the Beatles waking around London. Known as a Mad Day Out.
I'll have to get this Steppenwolf box set. I hear the sound is the best ever. You were right about the first two albums. Those mixes sound incredible. Good review. Just sayin

Joni has some nice box sets out.😀

"Tug O War" Heh no pun intended, Sir? :)
are the Beau Brummels and Steppenwolf boxed sets those "Mini LP" CDs or just sleeves?
The Mars Volta - La Realidad de los Suenos box set was my favorite...and you know it's good because my wife hated it before I even opened it.

Saw Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds around the time of the Henry’s Dream LP. The band really rocked that gig. Was a damn good show.

My wife during part three of the Get Back doc, "wow, Glen Johns is yummy", LOL.
And if you decide to shelf the insides of the Uber George you can place all the other box sets inside the crate! 😃😉
great choices...personally, the one that i'm most excited about this year is the Doors L.A.Woman 50th anniversary

Fair point. I suspect the doc will make it around the world soon enough ✌🏽

In no particular order my 2021 box set purchases are Plastic Ono Band,Let It Be,All Things Must Pass,Jesus Christ Superstar,Fugazi.
Beau Brummels , the set for me
Want them all though
From Elvis in Memphis box set is incredible
And The Doors' "L. A. Woman" box set is still to come. That could make my top 2021 box set list as well. I'm looking forward to that.
Yeah I’m been skipping those Doors sets. Just keeping with OGs and the Analogue Productions 45RPM issues ✌🏽

What happened to your George Harrison crate? The gnomes run away with it? Oh, there it is - a two second tease
No David Bowie box?!?!?
I wonder because I know you like him. Very important and big box in 2021.
✌️
I’ve debated getting this Bowie box. I have two of the others on vinyl and three on CD so I might Siri g for the CD version this time. 🤷🏻♂️

Well said re Get Back. If you like The Beatles (and can get it) just pay the f***ing £8 (or equivalent) and enjoy it.
Shut up Mazzy! .

great work.

The word for today is... curated.
POB box was the best, Let It Be is a dust collector.
