Thanks for mentioning Geoff Emerick. So often the mastering engineer gets mentioned without any mention of the recording and or mix engineers. Without a good recording and or mix, the mastering engineer can only do so much. I had the pleasure of attending a talk with Geoff Emerick, here in Texas, at the ACL studios. Fantastic to hear him talk about his time with the Beatles. His book is highly recommended as well
This stereo remix is the best of the remixes done by Giles and co. so far. The new technology is fascinating. It’s setting all the early-mid albums free.
I love the Beatles, and I love Revolver. But I just see these remixes, remasterings, and repackagings as cash grabs. But hey, for those who enjoy the sound and the packaging, I'm glad you enjoy it!
Jimmy, we call someone like you a “cash crab”. Just because you don’t want to shell out for it, doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Be open minded, my friend!
@@joshcaterthese days of exorbitant prices for food, utilities and gasoline, some people simply cannot afford to shell out a few Franklins for this new box set regardless of what extras are included.
Fun review...this is my fav Beales album too! Picked up a loose, un-played mono from a damaged box set on eBay for $80. I have not heard a 2014 or an OG...but it is SO dynamic, sounds gorgeous (agree with Parlogram's review). I have heard / owned uk & us stereo pressings and now I do not think I would go back lol...the mono rules for me.
Enjoyable video, thanks. As a Liverpool lad from the sixties who bought these albums as they came out, I am most familiar with the mono mixes. In fact (funny story). My first actual stereo Beatles album was the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. I remember sticking the album on my old mono Dansette record player and hearing 'Hey Bulldog' for the first time. My God! It was a rather boring and repetitive instrumental!!! Until I played it on my friend's new stereo radiogramme. (Going back a few years folks). What a revelation!! There's John singing away in the other speaker!!!! I've never been a fan of the earlier stereo mixes with the voices in one speaker and instruments in the other. So as years went by, I obtained all albums in both mono AND stereo. I do love the Giles Martin/Sam Okel remixes. However, I only have the 2014 mono mix of Revolver. So with this new edition, I had a dilemma. Buy the new vinyl box set, quite expensive, and duplicate my mono copy. Or buy the slightly cheaper cd box set. Unlike many people, one thing that put me off the vinyl box set was the inclusion of a 45 disc. I never play them. Had they made it a 12 inch vinyl single, as they did in the previous Get Back box set, I might have been more tempted. I finally decided to go for the vinyl single album release along with the cd box set. This gave me the benefit of having all the tracks, not duplicating my mono vinyl, being able to jump in and out of the Sessions tracks and not having a 45 record. But as you say, this is all to do with one's subjective taste. Thanks for a very interesting video and keep up the good work. 👍
If one prefers stereo, the new remix really does make the vocals clearer and more centered instead of the wide panning to the side. The guitars chime on "Dr. Robert" & "And Your Bird Can Sing" and the piano/clavichord break is quite nice & spacious in "For No One". Of course, the alternate takes are a revelation, especially the origins of "Yellow Submarine". I enjoyed the knowledgeable perspective concerning mono & stereo. Interesting presentation!
Thanks, pal! Love this set and so glad we're seeing each album getting such attention. Agreed re: denoting re-mix on jackets to help those future vinyl diggers. The remaining albums can't come quickly enough! Personally, I can't wait for Please Please Me, With the Beatles, and A Hard Days Night.
Revolver seems to be..........George's album. Taxman introduces it, his sitar adds that instrument beautifully to the lexicon of psychedelia and I Want to Tell You is like looking back and reminding fans of how a guitar riff can make a hit. And, Tomorrow Never Knows (Lennon/Starkey).
"Revolver" is also my favorite album, "I'm only sleeping" is also my favorite song and I'm agree with all ! Perfect video ! And I love the little "Gainsbourg" Boxset on your shell. I love from the first album to "Melody Nelson". 1958 to 1971, his gold years !
I knew I liked you for a reason. I too firmly believe in stereo. I can remember the first time I heard a Beatle stereo album. Maybe it was rubber soul. I don’t remember it was 1965. I was 13. How splendid was the movement from speaker to speaker. I was in awe.
I was born in 59 so not quite as old as you but did grow up with the Beatles. I remember being in my dad's 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL listening to Hello, Goodbye on the radio and him making a comment on how much he liked the song. I listened to the Beatles extensively in my 20s and into my 30s but really haven't spent much time with them since. I'm not really drawn to listening to the OGs anymore. I find the Gilles Martin remixes are a breath of fresh air and I would not be spinning Beatles records today without them.
Hi Mazzy, nice coverage, thanks. I've always seen Revolver as Emerick's record rather than Martin's. Love the fact that he risked getting fired by sticking the microphones down into the French horn. There's a great story about when Klaus Voorman finished the cover art for Revolver, and Epstein loved it so much he burst into tears.
very nice explanation on how you heard the new mixes....to me, it's all about the outtakes....pushing the curtain aside and listening to the lads as they make their way to what we are so familiar with....therein lies the rub...stay well my friend...peace always...rocky
I’m sorry for commenting on an older video, but I only discovered your channel a few weeks ago - and I absolutely love your videos - especially those on The Beatles and Miles Davis. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. I couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said here - especially that these remixes should indicate somewhere on the sleeve that they are different mixes (and that the original mixes should remain in print - same with the ongoing John Lennon remixes). - Perhaps something similar to the Led Zeppelin deluxe sets, where the colours were changed might work? And another very valid point that we’re constantly being told that “the Mono versions are the best because those are the ones the band had input on” - yet why are they not in print and available on streaming services for people to access easily? (I too prefer Stereo for these records, I love to listen to a real “headphone record” with the cool panning etc.) Anyway sorry for rambling and thank you again.
When I was a boy, my dad had the big three: RS, R and STLHCB. Oh and quite soon when they came out, the red and the blue. But from the original issues (UK versions, I'm a Brit by birth), I couldn't pick a favourite between those three. Probably Revolver is the most consistent, but Pepper has, obviously, ADITL, and Rubber Soul has maybe ten or even eleven songs you can't imagine living without - about the same as Revolver, just slightly less diverse stylistically. I think "With the Beatles" deserves more love too. Covers count when they're that good!
I love all the Remixes Probably because I always disliked the cheap Stereo mixes from the 60’s. They were an afterthought. But now we have a proper Stereo mix of this iconic masterpiece 🎉 The Remix is Superb on Good Headphones ❤
I agree with everything you've said. The new release gets us closer to being there, but we still have the original, and sometimes that's where we want to be..
Great video Mazzy. I have a 1966 Stereo US Capital Records copy of Revolver. I am happy with it because it's vintage 😊 I was tempted to buy the record store exclusive because of the tote bag.
@@chesterpielock8824 Yes. The original 1966 original doesn't have the bonus track. I like the copy I have is in very good condition. I tend to collect first pressings except if they are too expensive. Most of my albums I purchased when I was young. 70s kid and 80s teenager. The Beatles were before my time. So that's why I have used copies. I have many 80s records. John Mellencamp, Scarecrow was recently reissued and remastered. It includes an acoustic "Scarecrow ". I really love my vintage Scarecrow record. It's VG+ because I take good care of my records and CDs. I didn't buy this reissue either. My original is sentimental. That Revolver tote bag is cool! I think I want the tote bag more than the record. I going to mind my wallet. I going to two concerts next spring. Crowded House and John Mellencamp. There is always awesome merchandise at concerts. Saving money for these events.
I have both the original Revolver mono and stereo Capitol records version, but I wore out my mono. Personally, I like the Capitol records releases better, in spite of knowing that the songs included on Capitol LP's were different than the EMI LP's. Also, we U.S./ North America fans got Yesterday and Today released by Capitol, which was an extra that the fans in the U.K. and Europe did not have in 1966.
Love your review, Mazzy. My first reaction, some time very recently, when I heard the first remixed track that was released, streaming, was, "WHAT?!?!" Yeah. The separation of the instruments in the new mix just blew my mind. I've just spent some time with the full release today, and gave most of my attention to the new tracks, "outtakes," whatever, which I'm also finding... revelatory. I've loved these guys since forever, when I heard them on the radio on my mom's '56 Chevy sedan, rolling down Highway 51, past Elvis's house, on my way home from school. Yeah. That long. That they continue to boggle me, still, after all these years, and in the middle of all this craziness, is a wonderful gift. Love you, Mazzy. ♥
7:00 - 10:45 - I totally agree on your view about mono/stereo thing. If in new stereo mix everything is in center (instruments, vocals), than it is just like the mono mix. And i just adore panning in 'Your Mother Should Know', for instance. The only other band that comes to my mind regarding this thing is The Mamas & The Pappas - in some songs, they have female vocals on one speaker, and male on another and things like that. :-)
Enjoyed that. Great review, thanks. Over the years, Revolver has slowly become my favourite. I think many of us go through such stages of appreciation. I disagree on a couple of the points you made, (just my opinion.) The original stereo mixes have always 'jarred' with me and in that respect, I believe mono was truer to what would be heard during a live performance. Also, I don't think a vocal centred remix defeats the purpose of stereo. It fills the huge void between mono and the old isolationist stereo which to me sounds completely unnatural - something that would never be heard in live studio or at a live public performance. However, I can understand how, for some people, the old sound is so hardwired into their minds that it's difficult to assimilate the new version.
Mazzy congratulations fantastic video. This is your domain, video full of expertise & knowledge.I respect & love your passion on all things Beatles. Been away for a couple of days won’t get to listen to mine until Saturday, today. A couple of observations. Not keen on black border on the box,no flip back jackets & the single was originally a top loader. Can you imagine if they included an AAA stereo version as well. Cannot wait to hear mine later today. I’ll send you a pic when my T-shirt arrives 😂 Mazzy have a great weekend my friend 😎❤️
Mazzy, an excellent summary of this highly anticipated vinyl box set of which I received mine this afternoon. Full disclosure herein, I was looking forward to your particular Revolver box set perspective(s) as much/more than nearly any YT host simply bc of your passion for & experience with the Fab Four mixed media output combined with your love in general of CD & vinyl box sets. I'm cleaning my vinyl set as I write (I also have the 2-CD set on order since announced) but I feel I know what to expect musically 🎶 w/ this 2022 mono transfer & stereo re-mix bc of MY experience w/ my various mono vinyl, stereo vinyl & various CD sets too, along with the great online digital pre-release date 🎶 they've teased us with so far. 👍 Again, will admit that we're essentially aligned & in agreement on the clear hotpoints of this new Revolver box set. The album has been one of my FAV Beatles album for decades so with my overall visual 👀 inspection so far INCLUDING the pressing QC (you never know 🤷♂️; see Sept's Pink Floyd Animals) while cleaning, it looks to be a....💪 (World Series) home run!! 👍 Good vid bud. 👍
I didn't realize they was releasing the basic album on the new stereo remaster for 30 bucks so I ended up getting a copy. It's one of the best albums ever...
Nice video of course you do a great job as always this might be a minor point and I'm sure in your mind it is..... because I grew up and still am in Philadelphia Philly had a great doo-wop scene and Lee Andrews was like really big in Philly and unfortunately you didn't see it necessary just tell everyone that Lee Andrews was of course the lead singer of tada Lee Andrews and the hearts very famous R&B vocal group Harmony man in this city . And of course Lee Andrews was the father of Questlove....
Wow, great trivia. I used to work at a car dealership in the Philly suburbs and our "local", The Blue Blazer, regularly featured Lee Andrews and the Hearts on a Saturday night.
Massy …my head is Revolving from the saturation of unboxing? However your contribution is a very worthwhile addition! I appreciate your views which are well balanced ! I dislike those who only post to hear the sound of their own voice/opinion? Keep up the excellent content 👍
A wonderful review of the new Beatles Revolver deluxe boxset. I resisted watching any other Revolver reviews until I did my own and I agree with you, in that I prefer the Stereo Revolver over the Mono, at least so far. When I made my video I totally forgot that those missing "John songs" were on Yesterday and Today! Oops! Another great video Mazzy, thanks!
Mazzy another great overview and excellent perspective. Here is where I am at. I have multiple vinyl copies Revolver (all stereo) as I am like you - at the time Mono was not what was 'happening'. I don't care about Mono versions. Of note, Mike at the 'In Groove' said the Revolver LP box set - all the LPs were all 'dirty' and that he had to ultrasonically clean them before playing. I bought the 2 CD package. Why? Who needs another LP version. I get a CD 'clean' first time. Re-mix sounds great. No flipping sides (been there - done that). The 2nd CD has Rain and Paperback Writer plus the best of the outtakes. I compared this new mix to the 2009 CD remastered box set version. The 2009 CD version is an improvement over the original stereo LP. The new Revolver CD version is a great remix....period! From a CD perspective that is my opinion.
That looks like a nice package. I don't get the inconsistency in packaging between these sets tho - why didn't The White Album have a deluxe vinyl version with outtakes and hardcover book? That's my favorite Beatles record and outtakes were CD only - no book. Cry baby cry.....
I think you are able to bring to a head a much more broad spectrum in terms of an opinion of what sounds better than the other(s) because you lived through all the variations from the beginning. That's a blessing. I haven't gotten the new release yet but I will make sure to listen to it based on what you've described and see what I come up with. Thanks for taking the time to give an expository over view of this new release. - TONE P.S. you think they'll ever do a remix remaster release of the Hey Jude release?
Excellent take on this release, Maz! As a person of a certain age (about a week different from you) I understand the familiar, but what version presents the artist’s intent more faithfully. Who knows.Good on you, Maz!
I’m glad you enjoy the release. I’m not a super fan that would buy the box but I agree with you, release the mono vinyl by itself. That I would buy! I’ve watched your review & Michael’s @45RPM. I have no interest in others but I’m afraid TH-cam will now clog my feed with others.
Hi Mazzie, great video! I love the remix and like the vocals centre - this will be my go to stereo version from now on as I find the panning left and right distracting. I think it odd that they have not included clear labelling on the records that this is a remix - it smacks of revisionist. This is already happening with the stereo vinyl boxes where the 2009 remastered LPs are being substituted with the various remixed albums. Cheers Matt
I loved the bonus material it sounds great and so does the mono version in the super deluxe box but the new stereo remix although I understand why it was done and I like the vocal and instrument placements my copy was cut too loud it really pushes my stylus to distortion I don't have that problem with any of the other LPs in the box
You neglect to mention that the outtake discs contain the version of Tomorrow Never Knows (Mono Mix RM 11) that was withdrawn after the very first UK pressings were released because Lennon called EMI to complain that the wrong version was issued. This is why those first UK pressings are so rare and prized.
Wonderful video Mazzy! You have so much knowledge. I prefer Revolver in stereo as well. That seems to be an unpopular opinion but I think stereo sounds better. I'm jealous that I'm not a first generation Beatles fan. It must have been very cool to be alive while their albums were coming out. Take care.
Where do I begin having just watched this after Halloween Party this weekend (and I'm playin' catch up)? First off, prospective, you have it in spades experiencing it at the time. While I'm a bit younger than you, like you I started with the Capitol in my instance a late 70's purple label stereo which got replaced in the mid 80's by a early mint 1986 UK Parlophone that would of been in the last "Blue Boxes" which was one heck of an upgrade in terms of audio quality nevermind gaining three songs in different mixes. I did get the 1987 cd which I'll say outright I prefer to the 2009 remaster by long shot and gained the mono cd box same year where especially over headphones I am more for the mono mix. I did get like you the 2014 mono lp which was a bargain then and still sounds great even now being more for a broader sweap of stereo than the vocals on one side, backing on the other kind of, that's my go-to on vinyl. That's not to say sometimes the stereo mix on the original added something when it came to being spacious. You do explain what for you is great in the set - the book obviously, the out take discs while pointing out the stereo remix lp (rightly) needed something to clearly identify it as that and talk about how those remixes work cos obviously those of us who grew up on original stereo have that as our "homebase" so will pick up on differences more. I did have the 2012 lp and I'll admit to it, that one has left the house as I couldn't get along with what on my system sounded like lumpy bass and murky sound on She Said, She Said. At any rate I have ordered up the two cd set as a start point to explore the new remixed stereo album, those stereo remixes of Paperback Writer with Rain which apart from Mono Monsters I do have in my 1977 World Records 23 single UK box set on vinyl and a selection of outtakes. I'd agree the mono mixes of that single are hard to beat but hey, there's always a spot for something a bit different and having watched your video am prepared to listen with new ears and give this remix a go. Thanks again and (as I said on the locked thread at Hoffman's )"We love you" as this video was distinctive offering many of us what we find helpful.
You say "the two singles, Paperback Writer and Rain". Not sure if it's clear to everyone - these were two sides of one single. For practical purposes, PW was the single, Rain was the b-side, regardless of its high reputation subsequently. Nice video, great record, great reissue.
I’ve only heard the songs on TH-cam but I do have a nice set of Yamaha powered studio monitors and I found the mono versions especially for Rain and Paperback Writer sounded super thin and lacking in bottom end. Once again, just like the originals Ringo’s kick drum is buried.
As a first generation Beatles fan I am sure that very few of us knew at the time that Beatles US albums were different than UK versions.. I did not until several years later
Always preferred Revolver to Pepper - well done, thanks! Always hated the why Capitol bastardized the Parlophone LP's... Some good interviews out there w/ Giles Martin about the project, too...
That Peggy Lee version of Fever dominated our lives at that time. I was 17 years of age in 1966. 18 in 67. It seemed to be everywhere. But I am comfortable thinking that this was the Beatles best. It could not have been anything later. I think the Rolling Stones best was Aftermath, when Paint It Black came out, although I don't think anyone would agree with me. When High Tide And Green Grass came out I was so sad that Paint It Black was not there. I thought they were done, and in a way they were.
Well now you have the best of both worlds you have the mono put into stereo using computerized features that harness only certain sounds when you want them to and then you can put them together in stereo that's what they did with this
Revolver is my favorite also. I just got this today and I love it so far. I understand the mixed reviews of people who are just used to the older stereo mixes. Couldn’t agree more about your comment Beatles get the mono albums back in print. This box is awesome. Also sorry I screwed up and ordered the Mazzy tee from the UK. I didn’t read the fine print I guess I just started clicking and after I hit Apple Pay I realized what I had done. Oh well.
My uncle was actually one of the string musicians that played on Eleanor Rigby. He played cello and was also on Strawberry Fields I believe. Being a classical musician I don’t think he thought much of it at the time 😅 True story.
Great review Mazzy!! I STILL haven't opened up my Super deluxe vinyl set as I have changes going on in my apartment...new oaint job...furniture etc...having said that??? I always say this, If Giles' remixed version had come out in 1966 THAT would have been revolutionary (just as revolutionary as the album Revolver itself). Then, if George Martin, Mr. Emerick and Mr. Moss had put out their versions now?? EVERYONE would have said it sounds like total shit. Everyone is just comparing through nostalgia...nothing else. Which is understandable. Also, not enough people give credit to actually how good the 2009 masters sound. Yes ok...it was sourced digitally....blah blah blah....but so was Joe Jackson's Body & Soul and Donald Fagen's Nightfly....yeah??? so what?? Great sound is great sound. Love LOVE your videos.
Yes. But McGuinn picked up the Rik 12 string after seeing George play it in A Hard Days Night. They George wrote If I Needed Someone after hearing the Byrds. Full circle.
I'm a very casual Beatles fan, the only thing in this box I really want is the AAA mono. Of course I have to buy the box to get it. To me this is where the Beatles start to get interesting.
Parlophone belongs to Warner, not Universal or did I miss something? (I did, it's Universal indeed releasing this. I'm totally confused.) While not having heard the new remix yet, here is something I can say about the mono compared to the often extremely panned stereo: To my perception, the mono has more "room". Take "Taxman": The band and the vocals are "trapped" in each channel. That's no room sound, it's just left and right. And the original intention of stereo is to provide room sound. If I play the mono Taxman on a stereo system, I get a wonderful depth into the room. And only with the mono mix I became aware, that they had taken that much care and added "room ambiance" (call it "very short reverb" if you will) to the vocals, which result in a kind of 3D depth illusion. This totally gets lost when trapped in the channel in the original stereo. To my estimation, the new Taxman mix adds to this. So, it's not just about presence in the center, it is the illusion of depth.
Universal bought EMI some years ago and you probably know they owned Parlophone and Capitol. Universal is one of the big three left standing along with Warners and Sony.
The Maz always nails it, cause he was there at that time and experienced it at the same time when no one were arguing on the new worries Vinyl collectors are talking about today...Rock on Mazzy..
That's a good point you make about labelling it a remix, Mazz. Your take on the mono is notable in comparison with 45 who described very significant audible differences in his video, thought was unable to surmise a commensurately clear overall preference as a result. It might make for an interesting discussion though I suspect he's suffering from irrevocable confirmation bias so it might be a zero sum debate. Do you prefer the original mono to both the new ones? I have empathy with the sense of loss of the extreme stereo effects. That was actually one of the really exciting things about early stereo beatles records, "john's over there!", "There's Paul", it added a visceral component to the staging of the performance, even if it was a little forced. Good stuff, thanks!
You’re 68?! OMG, our mouths hit the floor when you said that! We thought 50 at the most for some reason. Guess we weren’t doing the math when you recollected your past experiences. Thanks again for sharing your perspective and yes Mazzy, we love you too.-Chris & Beth🎧❤️🙏🏻
Thanks Mazzy. Another great take on the Beatles. For me this sounds like the record where John and George were writing about LSD and Paul was still holding out.
While I love John & George’s acid-inspired innovative new sounds, McCartney’s creativity was also unbelievably strong on this album given the quality and range of his songs plus his essential contributions to TNK (tape loops), Taxman (guitar solo) and I WTTY’s atonal piano
Spot on review Mazzy. I like the remix better than the original Mono but I like the original stereo the best. my original stereo is from the BC 13 box and it’s wonderful. For Eleanor Rigby I need Paul’s voice to be on the right and I love the way his voice sounds on original stereo :)
I think the best improvement for the 2022 remix is Eleanor Rigby, especially making the strings stereo for the first time. Also, the late, sloppy panning of the vocals on the stereo 1966 drove me nuts!
I prefer the 2009 remaster of Revolver. They’re the original mixes and I like the clarity. While the 2022 mixes are nice there are moments I question. One being the lack of balls on She Said She Said. The guitars are lacking attack like in the original mix. There’s something off. I can’t quite pinpoint it. I don’t hear the cymbals and organ as well. Also the 2009 stereo master of Tomorrow Never Knows is way more powerful IMHO. More vibe. I dig the studio sessions. Love You To acoustic is fabulous as well as the original Rain tempo. Haven’t listened to the new Mono. Always prefer the stereo mixes from Help onward.
I agree 100% as far as she said she said , although I like the separation especially on the drums and vocals, but Ringo's crash cymbals are way down in the mix also the rhythm guitar parts are laid back in the mix for some reason they're not as prominent as the 2009 mix which I think sounds sonically Fuller !
Mazzy with the BEATLES/MONEYGOROUND in 10 years AppleCorp will try to sell us the all analog all original 1966 Mix of Revolver and Pepper. They have to get that Beatle money!
Hi Mazzy. Great review. You and I are the same age (ok, you're 5 weeks older than me), but I've always found the stereo mix a bit jarring and it's only been getting worse over the decades. In recent years, I've been listening to a lot of classical orchestral music and much of it was recorded in stereo using a "tree" of three microphones. This creates a beautiful soundstage with great imaging. Then, when I go back and listen to this Beatles form of stereo, it just seems too unnatural. So, I'm looking forward to this remix. Just my humble opinion.
Speaker placement is key in order to hear it correctly...some don't have there speakers set right to hear it right. The Beatles mastered these on the Tannoy I'm surprised you don't have a set.
I must admit I never heard John playing Hammond organ on She Said She Said, the remix brings it out a little more, it’s been getting a lot of criticism from other reviewers, but to my ears it’s my favourite track so far, that warrants repeated listening 😊. Is it Paul or George on bass, has that been cleared up yet? People say that he wasn’t at most of the sessions after having arguments with his other band mates?
The stereo remixes were supposed to fix the whole "the stereo mixes aren't as good as the mono" thing. So I don't get including the mono at all. A side point, I like the '67 stereo mix of Sgt Pepper with the panning from one side to the other on the title track. It really gave the feel of introducing a band.
Being a photo person - check out the center image on your multiple copies - after so many iterations it is getting fuzzy, not crisp - oh well, someone with skills should have fixed the image (even if it has been lost).
The mono LP is fantastic. I don't have the 2014 mono box set so I am glad it was included in the new Revolver box set.
Thx, good sell. I guess I will have to keep playing my $2 originals (US and U K).
I love the Beatles, and I love Revolver. But I just see these remixes, remasterings, and repackagings as cash grabs. But hey, for those who enjoy the sound and the packaging, I'm glad you enjoy it!
@GussMozart Fair enough. You make a compelling case, friend. I hope you enjoy the box set.
Jimmy, we call someone like you a “cash crab”. Just because you don’t want to shell out for it, doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Be open minded, my friend!

Fun review...this is my fav Beales album too! Picked up a loose, un-played mono from a damaged box set on eBay for $80. I have not heard a 2014 or an OG...but it is SO dynamic, sounds gorgeous (agree with Parlogram's review). I have heard / owned uk & us stereo pressings and now I do not think I would go back lol...the mono rules for me.
great video Mazzie. Interesting !!!
The mono should be in print, come on Paul and Ringo ! I agree🎶
Couldn't agree with you more about Questlove's essay. A new, fresh perspective.
I knew I liked you for a reason. I too firmly believe in stereo. I can remember the first time I heard a Beatle stereo album. Maybe it was rubber soul. I don’t remember it was 1965. I was 13. How splendid was the movement from speaker to speaker. I was in awe.
Yes wide s t e r e o. 😵💫💫
Best revolver video I’ve seen so far.
As far as I am concerned enjoy the music in any format or version that you desire ✌🏼
@@mazzysmusic It's quite amazing to think that here we are over 50 years later and their music is still relevant.
I’ve been listening to Revolver since 1976 and always wished it could sound better so the remix is a dream come true for me.
Rain - one of Macca's best-ever bass lines!
I Want To Tell - a solid Harrisong!
Congratulations on being the only reviewer who knows what spot varnish is.
Very nice discussion. Thank you!

The outtake album cover is super cool! It only costs $200!
Cheers,Chet
very nice explanation on how you heard the new mixes....to me, it's all about the outtakes....pushing the curtain aside and listening to the lads as they make their way to what we are so familiar with....therein lies the rub...stay well my friend...peace always...rocky
I’m sorry for commenting on an older video, but I only discovered your channel a few weeks ago - and I absolutely love your videos - especially those on The Beatles and Miles Davis. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them.
I couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said here - especially that these remixes should indicate somewhere on the sleeve that they are different mixes (and that the original mixes should remain in
print - same with the ongoing John Lennon remixes). - Perhaps something similar to the Led Zeppelin deluxe sets, where the colours were changed might work?
And another very valid point that we’re constantly being told that “the Mono versions are the best because those are the ones the band had input on” - yet why are they not in print and available on streaming services for people to access easily? (I too prefer Stereo for these records, I love to listen to a real “headphone record” with the cool panning etc.)
Anyway sorry for rambling and thank you again.
Amazing to see the butcher cover in your collection!
LOVE IT, JUST LOVE ALL OF IT😀
I love all the Remixes
Probably because I always disliked the cheap Stereo mixes from the 60’s. They were an afterthought. But now we have a proper Stereo mix of this iconic masterpiece 🎉
The Remix is Superb on Good Headphones ❤
I never saw stereo as an afterthought. Stereo was simply mixed second, after the mono, because most record buyers didn’t have stereo gear back then.
@@mazzysmusic the stereo mixing on the original revolver is mental ...
I agree with everything you've said. The new release gets us closer to being there, but we still have the original, and sometimes that's where we want to be..
Good thoughts Norman! For me, the remix in stereo is long-awaited, finally you can hear Revolver in headphones without getting annoyed🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
god headphones. is a must way of hearing everything
Great video Mazzy. I have a 1966 Stereo US Capital Records copy of Revolver. I am happy with it because it's vintage 😊
I was tempted to buy the record store exclusive because of the tote bag.
C ,you realize the US version is missing a couple of songs, right?
@@Niteowlette 😊
Hi mazzy the beatles are the greatest band of all time, revolver is a masterpiece. A perfect record l would say.
I'd love the book for sure. I join the club with it as a favourite album.
Emmerick was only 20 years old when he started working with the Beatles!
As a matter of fact we had seen 10,000 versions of this revolver unboxing you're right Mazzy with that anyway
I’m pretty much a stereo guy but have to say the Atmos mix of this is phenomenal.
Favorite Beatles album / love this box set / especially the 100 page book that is included.
I’ll send you a pic when my T-shirt arrives 😂
Mazzy have a great weekend my friend 😎❤️
Again, will admit that we're essentially aligned & in agreement on the clear hotpoints of this new Revolver box set.
Good vid bud. 👍
I didn't realize they was releasing the basic album on the new stereo remaster for 30 bucks so I ended up getting a copy. It's one of the best albums ever...
Remix not Remaster
- TONE
P.S. you think they'll ever do a remix remaster release of the Hey Jude release?
Excellent take on this release, Maz! As a person of a certain age (about a week different from you) I understand the familiar, but what version presents the artist’s intent more faithfully. Who knows.Good on you, Maz!
I’m glad you enjoy the release.
I’m not a super fan that would buy the box but I agree with you, release the mono vinyl by itself.
That I would buy!
I’ve watched your review & Michael’s @45RPM. I have no interest in others but I’m afraid TH-cam will now clog my feed with others.
Good video Mazzy, my 45 is slightly warped too but doesn’t affect the sound. Weird
Hey Mazzy, no problem with short playing times on CD. Would have been extremely cool if they had issued the 45 single on a mini-cd (3”).
wonderful and very passionate video Mazzy, you nearly convinced me to buy this very expensive reissue.
I loved the review. Specially the essay mention! Good point there. A different perspective.
Love your video. You make a lot of sense
Yeah I didn’t dig in in every track. Thank wound be extra long. But that wound have been good to mention since I have copy of it. ✌🏼
Great review 👍
Wonderful video Mazzy! You have so much knowledge. I prefer Revolver in stereo as well. That seems to be an unpopular opinion but I think stereo sounds better. I'm jealous that I'm not a first generation Beatles fan. It must have been very cool to be alive while their albums were coming out. Take care.
It’s was the right time or place for me. But to be 50 now would also be lovely 😎🤠
Hey thanks for your detailed take on this. Love hearing all views ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼🤠
Yeah around 66/67 when I really knew.
Oh well.
Oh well. Maybe the import will be better 🤓😎🤠
@@mazzysmusic My wife said the same thing.
I'm with ya brother.. I prefer the stereo on both Revolver & Pepper too. ✊ Great video.
Which album do you think might get remixed by Giles Martin in 2023
Ever since I heard Eleanor Rigby from the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, I've wanted to hear a remix of Revolver.
Got to agree I love the stereo albums more than the mono.
My uncle was actually one of the string musicians that played on Eleanor Rigby. He played cello and was also on Strawberry Fields I believe. Being a classical musician I don’t think he thought much of it at the time 😅 True story.
Very cool. Yeah I guess for some, they were just another session at the time.
How big an influence do you think EIGHT MILES HIGH was for their sound?
I'm totally confused.)
While not having heard the new remix yet, here is something I can say about the mono compared to the often extremely panned stereo:
To my perception, the mono has more "room".
Thank you ✌🏼
That's a good point you make about labelling it a remix, Mazz.
Yeah we have a different take. Different sounding in different gear and ears maybe? ✨
@@mazzysmusic Another case for employing computer-driven AI to independently assess the empirical quality of analogue releases? :)
I can be 50 for you. It’s all in your mindset and demeanor. And be open to be ideas abs music whenever possible ✌🏼
Enjoy mazzy good review.
Thank you ✌🏼
$325 for this in Australia
$70 for the single lp.
They can stick both of them where the sun doesn't shine. 😊
That’s probably all the shipping and import taxes ? Crazy😵💫
$50 for the download version. No book but you get the music
Just think shorty when the first Steely Dan reissues comes out there will be twenty thousand stupid TH-cam videos on it.
I'm saving my money.
Do you think they’ll do Rubber Soul next? Or do you think they’ll do Please Please me for a 60th anniversary?
The only thing is i wish they put the single original picture sleeve on the EP cover.
How do the recent mono editions compare to the original mono U.K. version? Would be interested to find out if there’s even a noticeable difference?
The OG is more in your face and still the best. Be these are good too. Somewhat different.
Thanks for reply
Love Rain and I’m Only Sleeping
The stereo remixes were supposed to fix the whole "the stereo mixes aren't as good as the mono" thing. So I don't get including the mono at all. A side point, I like the '67 stereo mix of Sgt Pepper with the panning from one side to the other on the title track. It really gave the feel of introducing a band.
You sound like Peter venkman from ghost busters lol
Being a photo person - check out the center image on your multiple copies - after so many iterations it is getting fuzzy, not crisp - oh well, someone with skills should have fixed the image (even if it has been lost).
