It definitely was a great year for box sets. Some I still want, but will have to wait and hope they don't sell out by the time I can buy them. Anyway here are some of my favorites of 2021 that I did purchase already: 1. The Who - The Who Sell Out Super Deluxe Edition. (5-CD, 2 7" vinyl singles). Fantastic box set that just revolves around one album/era, which also includes material that was recorded after the original album, but before the material that was recorded for the album Tommy. This box set gave me much more appreciation of the album The Who Sell Out after hearing all the related material, including outtakes, singles, demos and other recording sessions. The book included is a nice treasure trove of info and photos from the period. This, along with last year's Prince's Sign O' The Times Super Deluxe are my two favorite box sets that cover just one album and related recording sessions. 2. Def Leppard - CD Collection Volume Three (6-CD) - I think you covered the bases on this set. So, I won't say anything else except that I can't wait for the 4th Volume, which probably won't come until after they release their next new studio album. 3. Elvis Presley - Elvis Back In Nashville (4-CD) - Similar in style to last year's From Elvis In Nashville set. This year's set contains all the recordings from Elvis' final Nashville recording sessions, which were recorded from May-June, 1971. This material includes all the secular, gospel, and Christmas songs that were originally released on Elvis studio albums that were created from these sessions. In this set you have original recordings remastered, along with various alternate takes of some of the songs. Also, like last year's set, this set also showcases Elvis' original vocals more upfront, by removing some of the orchestral overdubs and vocal accompaniments that were on the original mixes. 4. The Rolling Stones - Tattoo You (4-CD, Vinyl Picture Disc LP) - I broke down and finally bought this. I originally bought the 2-disc version on release day, but I had to have this one too since I am a Rolling Stones collector. Tattoo You is considered one of The Rolling Stones best albums and I agree. The bonus disc containing 9 unreleased songs is fantastic (this bonus disc is also included in the 2-CD set). In the 4-CD/Picture Disc set you also get the whole 1982 Wembley concert from the tour. I love all the live archive stuff of The Rolling Stones and I try to get my hands on all of them. And as a bonus (for the vinyl lovers, you get a Picture disc of the original LP.) Also included is a 124-page book with lots of rare photos from the recording sessions and tour. A couple interviews with the producer of the album and photographer are also included in the book. 5. The Doors - LA Woman 50th Anniversary (3-CD, 1 Vinyl LP) - Like with the Def Leppard box, you covered the bases on this one. Like The Rolling Stones, I am a collector of The Doors and had to have this version. This makes at least the 7th or 8th (maybe more, I lost count) version I own of this album. 6. The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang: Live On Copacabana Beach (2-CD, 2-DVD) - Another live archive set from The Rolling Stones. This one showcases the Bigger Bang tour with the 2-CDs covering the concert from Copacabana Beach. Also, one of the DVDs is a video of the show. The 2nd DVD is a video of a show from the same tour that was performed in Salt Lake City. Note: I'm sure Overkill - The Atlantic Years (6-CD) would make my list, but unfortunately the release of the CD box (which I preordered) keeps getting pushed back and now won't be released until some time in February at the earliest (assuming it doesn't get pushed back any further.) The Vinyl version of this box set (which I didn't purchase) was finally released at the beginning of this month. From the few reviews I read about it, the remasters of the 6 Atlantic albums sound great and are a huge improvement over the originals. I am hoping when the CD box does finally get released, the CD remasters are good also and not overly compressed. Taking Over is my favorite Overkill album and it sorely needed a remaster, more so than any other Overkill album. So, it will be worth it to me if this album remastered is even just so-so.
Boxed sets are the best! 😎 I always intend to go for the discography type of boxsets (cardboard sleeves / clamshell). Because they are compact and easy to store. And also relatively cheap. Most of the boxsets I have are also in your collection btw. The best sets I bought this year are probably the Amy Winehouse Collection box, APP album collection, ELO album collection, Toto All In, and both Chicago box sets. ☺
I completely agree, the clamshell boxes with the multiple albums are the best. Cardboard sleeves are fine when they can be stored inside and the artwork is fully reproduced. These are usually great deals and perfect for storage.
I have many that Brendon has shown and one that you mentioned. I have boxsets like this for The Almighty, Budgie, The Byrds, Chicago, Focus, Hawkwind, Judas Priest, Rush, UFO, Van Halen, ZZ Top. I have ‘5 classic albums’ editions for Blackfoot, Dokken, Kansas, Jethro Tull, Montrose, Styx and Status Quo.
@@jimmycampbell78 Ahh Focus. That band is from my country. ;) Yeah I like some of their stuff. But to be honest I like Kayak even more. Do you know them? But you have some awesome material in the collection then.👍 Rush is also great indeed. UFO, Van Halen. I have those too. Rush I only have their later years box (not the sector ones). ZZ Top is not so much my cup of tea, but I do own a Greatest Hits album of them. 😅
I will definitely check Kayak out. The later years Rush boxset is the one I have too- I enjoy every Rush album even Hold your fire and Presto(!), but I do like Roll the Bones, Counterparts and Snakes and Arrows in that set. I forgot I also have a Fleetwood Mac boxset which is the Danny Kirwan/Bob Welch years; and the Ten Years After one which came out this year and has their classic albums.
Enuff Z'Nuff rarities set is the only one of these that I picked up. So good to hear Donnie singing lead (sorry Chip). I'll keep my fingers crossed for a EZ'N album ranking video from you in 2022. They have so many albums that most folks haven't heard. I think it'd be great to get your take on their discography. THX, Brendon!
Hi Brendon, great video. I also bought The Who Sell out, All things must pass and Plastic ono. I love these box sets they are beautiful things! I have subbed. Mike from south coast of England.
Ah Brendon you got me again ah box sets just the greatest like them all archive sets reissues book style lp style I only wish I had more money and storage space love the kitchen sink posters postcards all....ah well I don't smoke don't drink we can have one thing to our own I love all the ones you got for me the best ones I got this year are the beach boys feel flows let it be and bowie brilliant adventure and thin lizzy rock legends hope to get the steppenwolf box thanks for keeping the cd alive and to keep wetting our appetites God bless happy holidays and hope santa brings more box sets
Hi Brendon!! if record labels aren't selling any new music this days, let's reissue old stuff to the loyal fans, with some extra goodies, lol.... i'm not complaining, to me it's one of the few cards the music industry have!!! Btw cool boxsets a couple of those i would loved to grab ($)..... maybe in 2022. cheers and be well
My favourite box sets from this year are.1--Motorhead; No Sleep To Hammersmith 40th anniversary. 2--Rare Bird; Beautiful Scarlet 3 Accept Too Mean To Die Deluxe Edition 4-Motorhead Louder Than Noise which came with CD Blu Ray Vinyl and a War Pig passport cover.
Hi Brendon, How´ve you been?? I´m from Brazil and in here, prices are so absurd for these boxsets, you can find some with good prices though... Just bought The Beatles (Let it Be), Whitesnake (Restless Heart), John Lennon´s Plastic One Band, George Harrison (All Things Must Pass) and The Rolling Stones (Tattoo you), love them all! Cheers!
Hi Brendon. I love all of your box sets. I only own about five. I have been collecting CD's since 1980 when I graduated high school. I would love to buy any of your CDS if you ever are going to part with them. You have the best collection I have ever seen. I am currently working on getting my collection up to 3000 I currently have a little over 2000. Thanks for the great video. Philip.🤩😍
Another reason I enjoy this time of year, year end lists! So much fun. I'm glad KISS ranked number two on your list. I was thinking for $200, if it's anything less than number one...idk. But since it came in second to none other than The Beatles , I'm good 😀. Also, I still think you should check out the new Lordiversity box set. Being a fan of KISS and Alice and late eighties glam, I think you will like it.
I notice that you do not have The Who Sell Out Deluxe set. Five discs including one of Demos by Pete plus 2 X 7" discs and and fabulous book which has quality pages which are thick and glossy.
Great video I would have had kiss 1 whitesnake 2 skid row 3 😁 I like cats as well he snuck in you're video that's it for the year happy holidays all 🎉🎄🎉
Brendon , I look forward to your videos every morning. Very interesting . I have a large cd and LP collection, however not as organized as yours. Keep it up.
I think the only new boxsetes I got was let it be and all things must pass oh and John Lennon loved those but got thin Lizzy what a great band Uriah heep sweet and Nazareth last two were gifts I bought someone thinking about buying the sweet for myself have a great weekend brendon got Mr young and Jackson Browne yesterday but got sick so I'm going to listen today

My favourite of this year was the career spanning 37 disc set of Caravan , Who Do We Think We Are? put out by Madfish....an amazing set
I'll have to look for that Doors box, huge Doors fan. I need to get that Black Sabbath my favorite Sabbath album. The only box I picked up was UFO.
That UFO was a heck of a box too! Nice to meet another Technical Ecstasy fan.

Hey Brendon, what is the David Bowie box set behind you?. Seasons Greetings mate. Your videos are better than ever. Cheers.
It’s one of his album collection series.
It's called "Who Can I Be Now?"
