How To Install a LED Headlight Set and Heavy-Duty Headlight Harness - Kevin Tetz With LMC Truck

  • This video leads you through the step-by-step installation of 7" round headlights plus heavy-duty headlight wiring harness from LMC Truck. This DIY headlight and wiring project is a great upgrade that takes just a couple hours of time with basic tools, and it can be done even more quickly if you’re just changing the LED headlights alone.
Dim and yellowed headlights make your truck look aged, and they can be a safety issue, both with outward visibility at night and with other vehicles seeing you on the road. An LED Headlight Set from LMC Truck is an easy upgrade to increase the brightness and longevity of your truck or SUV headlights with less of a draw on your truck’s electrical system than factory lights. The addition of a plug-and-play Heavy-Duty Headlight Wiring Harness allows you to tap directly into your battery for 12V power, and won’t require any cutting, splicing, or soldering.
Kevin Tetz shows you all the basics you’ll need to get through the installation process, as well as some great tips and tricks to make sure you don’t run into any issues down the road. This how-to guide is performed with a Chevy C10, but it should help with similar headlight and wiring installations on other Chevy, GMC, Ford, and Dodge trucks with minor adjustments.

Kevin, thanks for using the term “Bulkhead” as it is not a firewall. Plus, any electrical connector have multiple terminals. Male terminals are used on the device while the harness side is always female. Save a sample of different types from old electrical parts that are just thrown away. Use the terminal for pin fit just like using feeler gauges. Not so much a problem on a new harness but very helpful future old connector terminals on old harnesses during diagnosis. Also, always to eliminate oxidation or corrosion, even from moisture in the air, keep a tube of dielectric grease. How many times has someone fixed a malfunctioning bulb buy scuffing with a nylon pad to shine up and achieve a low resistant connection. It’s sold in the auto section of home improvement stores or boat dealers that use large tubes that are way cheaper by the oz. than a parts store. Thanks for the interesting instructional video! Take it from me, you'll want to use some dielectric grease on those new leads that tie in to your battery. Even with a proper cleaning and tight installation mine had corroded after time.
Several years ago I did the headlamp wiring harness upgrade from LMC truck. Using that harness and a set of new H6024 halogen bulbs ('68 C10) had really improved my night vision for driving. I'll eventually upgrade to the LED headlamps, but until then I'll burn my halogens until one burns out.

Good lord! If you are going to fix your positive wire problem at the battery why would you not cut the frayed and oxidized end off the line and start with a complete and clean section of wire? Heck you could even go so far as to solder the wire to the positive battery terminal connector. Better connections mean less resistance and more power being distributed as intended.
Oh! Would it kill ya to use some of that dielectric gel on your connectors?
All in all though, very good instructional video. Thank you for the work you do.

    • @EricFixalot
      @EricFixalot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I agree, that wasn't much of a repair. And considering it's instructional video, that was appalling. That increased resistance creates heat, so given enough load, you've got a fire on your hands.

What was the orange light in the wheel well at the end? Also would have been good to know the voltage difference at the 12v headlight wiring before and after the upgrade.
Placing those red wire terminals between the clamp on the battery reduces the pressure it can exert on the positive wire, plus cut that wire and clean it that way.

Great video ...right up to the point where you kept those horrible battery cable repair clamps. Those are the worst for getting corrosion. If your doing an electrical job the first thing you gotta do is get a good battery cable connections. Nothing is gonna work for long if you keep those things. Crimped or soldered and sealed up well to prevent acid vapors from attacking the copper. Repair clamps are for emergency use to get you home to make a real repair.

Not everything needs to be connected to the battery terminal, remember. If you feel confident enough to solder and heat shrink, you can easily solder additional wires in parallel to the wire already connected to the battery terminal.
Be careful not to exceed you’re battery’s current limit though, or else your car won’t be able to start up if all those electrical systems are drawing current.

The problem is with LMC, for what I've experienced, is that when I asked for advice on the fittest harness for my 1976 K20 OEM restoration, they answered that they couldn't fully do that since they are not "licensed mechanics or technicians ". As you can imagine, when you buy parts from Europe, you think twice before throwing money out of the window for unusable spares and shipping. Furthermore, we don't have too many US cars here and, consequently, there are almost no mechanics to ask.

White lights on an old truck just don’t look good, in my opinion. I’d keep the yellow.

Kevin, usually I just watch the videos with a grain of salt to get the idea and all the things that might go wrong. You are a professional but don't show it in your work. all that rust under the battery tray was probably from acid leaking, the holes in the bottom of the radiator support and the battery tray should have been neutralised, cleaned up and painted. The wires to the battery should have been at least checked for flexibility due to the burn mark on the positive cable and those battery clamps were shameful. That's like wearing a new suit with yesterday's underwear. Please try and use that TV magic or get a little help from your sponsor. I get help from Spell check all the time, there's no shame in asking. keep up the good work.

How many of your people have actually purchased the kit he's pimping here? Well, I did. Total JUNK!!! Made my situation worse because the parts are inferior. Lately I've had a few issues with LMC. Headlight buckets are another thing I had problems with. The hole where the spring connects is wide open with no way to actually hold onto the bucket. Beware on this kit.

Glass is best, polycarbonate sucks. Ever see any of these new cars after a few years outside? Nice install but I wouldn't rely on Chinese wiring or relays for my headlights. You'll regret it once you get stranded on a back road with no lights. It will happen. Those relays are notoriously cheap and the wiring is thin gauge. Stay with OE wattage values if you use them.

Can't believe you used those old nasty wire ends , should have cut them off and removed the insolation and then installed them .
