Completely agree. I bought the 1st gen Orange Monster back in 2012 as my 1st mechanical watch and its still one of, if not my favorite in my collection. I understand why the design can be polarizing but that's another reason why I love it so much.
Heck yes! You were the one that put me onto the Seiko Monster all those years ago! I’ve bought and resold a Monster twice already and now looking at adding another to the collection b/c of this…
Hey Nate, that's awesome. Happy to be a bad influence. Based on instragram, you've got some awesome watch taste, happy to have been a little part of it.
Lovely work. I purchased the monster black face 13 years ago and it's timeless and bullet proof and I love the seiko ice blue baby monster. Absolutely quality. Happy New year from London
I remember your initial videos about the Monster - it was one of the reasons why I bought my Gen 2 orange/black back then. Still wear it all the time. Great watch.
Thank you Antony for your review , I also have the Monster Second Generation , I bought it 3 years ago when the prices were a little low , I felt in love with this watch in early 2000's when I saw it in a commercial in FHM magazine at the barber shop , but after years I forgot about it , and one of your videos reminded me about it , and I bought it .
You’re the reason I purchased this same exact watch. I sold my Pepsi turtle for this. Contemplated selling it when it was away but realized this one is a keeper when it was on the wrist. Have it tucked away with my OG navy alpinist.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
MAMACOO is one of my favorite watch manufacturers they do offer beautifull dials, good workmanship & moovements. That smooth sweeping second hand is truly mesmerizing!
Nice review buddy and great to hear you still have the passion for the monster. Like you at first I was unsure but when I had my first piece I was hooked. I ended up collecting every model ever released. I still own a few but most of the collection has now gone to new homes
I bought a Seiko SKX009K2 as my first mechanical watch. First got it from a colleague when he was selling some of his pieces, and I owned it for well over a year. At some point I decided to sell it and while I made a good profit on it, I slowly started regretting the fact I sold it. Literally one year later, I bought back the exact same watch for less than what I sold it for and even less than what I initially bought it for…! Now I have it on a custom blue silicone strap and it’s even more comfortable and fun to wear. I never should’ve sold it and it’s staying in my collection until I die. I’ve gotten the most amount of compliments on this watch than any other piece in my collection. One of my absolute favorite watches. ❤
That's awesome, what a great story. You made a profit on it and still got it back. I honestly never thought about a silicone strap, that's a cool thought for me to explore.
I’m glad to see you still have and enjoy your Monster, J. I’ve had my Seiko SKX009 since 2018, and I still wear it more than my other watches, despite it having a crappy bezel and no hand winding or hacking. There is nothing wrong with staying in touch with your more humble horological roots, despite owning more expensive watches. I liken it to owning a Montblanc Meisterstück 149 or a Pelikan M1000, but still enjoying and using a Lamy Safari. I’m much more of a Japanese fountain pen enthusiast, than I am a German pen enthusiast, though, with Pilot, Sailor and Platinum being my favorites, in descending order. 俺は日本の万年筆と時計が大好きなんだよ
@@JANTHONYCHANNEL Which Montblancs have you owned, J.? I’m curious, because I was considering getting a used Meisterstuck LeGrand 146 in the future, but may get a Pilot Custom 823 instead. Also, have you tried the Lamy 2000? It’s a classic Bauhaus-inspired mid-century modern pen, and it might be right up your alley.
@@JANTHONYCHANNEL Ah, “precious” resin, which MB fanboys swear up and down is just a mistranslation from German. I think you’d really like the Lamy 2000. It uses a unique glass fiber body called Makrolon, and comes in lots of different gold nib options.
Yep, even with other watches that far outshine on paper, my 2nd Gen orange Monster is the 1 watch I would save from a fire. It was my first watch ever, but it's irreplaceable for sure.
Thats exactly how I feel about that watch brotha. I have two gen 1s orange and black. The watch design is what makes the monster what it is from the dial , to the hands and the case design. There's no other watch like it. I've done watch mods on other watches inspired by the look of the seiko monster
Hey, interesting! I didn't know the Monster (lol) Seiko. I own a couple of Seiko's and love the great quality. And especially for that price. My favourite is the Coutura, a combination of perpetual calendar, kinetic and power reserve of 4 yrs. The reason I subscribed to your channel is that you give your honest non commercial opinion. Exactly what you did in this video. My favourite subjects is talk about innovation and craftmanship. Thanks for your effort and time!
Excellent, thank you not only sharing your collection and watching but sharing why you watch as well. Glad to know you appreciate my non commercial approach, thanks for the support and feedback!
I love it, thanks for doing a video on it, always wanted one of these. Used to have the orange one, first edition, and bought that because I’d just bought a new Explorer 2 (for £3600, back in 2007/8 ish) and didn’t want to use it as a beater, so bought the Orange monster. I literally ended up thinking the Seiko was better than the Rolex, the visual “depth” of the dial, the brilliant bracelet (which put the flimsy Exp 2 bracelet to shame), the whole package, and at the time it was a twentieth of the price! Sadly eventually sold it to buy something else which I later regretted, but now seriously considering the black version. Thanks for making me now want one 😉
I totally hear you, these watches in person are way nicer than their price would suggest. I think buying a black one is a responsible purchase by watch standards haha.
@@JANTHONYCHANNEL so true. Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the modern Seiko Monsters? Would be so easy for me to grab one on Amazon but not sure if they lost the charm.
This watch, though I've never owned it, strongly reminds me of the Seiko Samurai. While it's less brutalistic, it still carries that distinct Seiko identity, especially with its case and handset design. I agree that the 4R36 movement is fantastic and built to last. I've been subscribed to your channel for many years, largely because of your honest and thorough reviews, particularly when it comes to hyped brands like Rolex sports models.
Thank you for not only sticking around all of these years but still taking the time to watch and comment. Please know that I appreciate it! Thanks for the feedback!
how interesting that I wear my black gen 1 monster when this came up in my suggestion list. I think the monster have the best hand design to he honest.
Love all of your videos, but particularly watch ones. Have you ever thought about an explorer, and if you did, would you stay loyal to the original 36, or go more modern with the 39 or 40mm?
Honestly, I have had the Explorer II for years and so I haven't considered the Explorer, the one in contention was more the Milgaus for a 3 hander but I get why they are iconic.
My favorite is the second generation orange. I’ve had a couple of these, but never that one and now the prices are a bit too stupid for what they are. So I bought the Heimdaller homage which actually has better specs and I’m wearing it in your honor.
I've honestly never seen a Heimdaller in person, curious how they would compare side to side. Glad to hear you're being so tasteful. This and the Explorer II Polar lately, you're on a roll!
Seiko is no longer the gateway watch it was in the past, prices have creeped up over the years (with no improvement in quality and possibly a bit of a step down in over-all quality control). I love the unique design of the Seiko Monster and all its later iterations, it will never be mistaken for another watch. In my opinion the Seiko dive watch with a more Brutalist esthetic would be the all stainless steel Seiko Tuna.
Totally agree with you, this is from a different era of Seiko before they went more up market and had more quality issues to your point. The Tuna is an all time classic!
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. AMZWATCH watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
