    In general Territorial Control seems to: 1. have less constant action than the other gamemodes, but have more discrete, and intense firefights at important moments/places. 2. much more incentive to stay alive, and as a result, maneuver around the map instead of just constantly respawning.
    There’s definitely still a lot for me to learn to play it better. What do you guys think of the gamemode?

      Love it! Forces the squad to stay as one lest they lose the sector.

    • @HaebyungDance
      @HaebyungDance  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For sure - the 7th has developed a strategy of keeping fireteams together and using them as mini-squads for more flexibility. The incentive to stay concentrated for when the firefights happen is definitely there!

    You hate squads recoil and sway and you hate the whole game until you witness 2 heli dropout on enemy’s CP following by artillery support, as you storm the house you hear radio chatters, screaming in local voicechat that gets indistinguishable when the enemy’s MG starts to suppress you… then you understand - its built different
    Ofc you can be the first guy to die and miss all the fun, but oh boi i’ve seen so much hollywood moments and fall in love instantly. One of the craziest moment ive seen is when some rando was spamming localchat with a phonk and didnt react when we asked to stop it. The SL made to stop both supply trucks, commanded to left the vehicles and form a line. After 10s of pure swearing he made a public execution of the guy. I was a medic and he ordered not to revive him. It was hilarious af
    Another good thing is that im russian and i play on moscow servers. There are many Ukrainian people on the server and its good to see how there is no hate, no political discussion and etc. Everyone knows why snd what is happening and understands that the other guy is a man just like, just was born in a different country.

    "That could be fixed by OWI being a little more creative with new layers" - this is my biggest gripe with the development team and their priorities. New layers are always extremely poorly thought out: there are day-one bugs (spawn glitches), those get fixed, and then community feedback goes out the window. If they actually spent time on the meta-gameplay, many of the complaints of faction balance, etc. would go away. Wish they would revamp the TC layers too, I'm a long time fan of TC but the layers have stayed the same for many years now and... yeah, if you've played this game for longer than a year, you realize how badly they need to refresh layer design.

    • @HaebyungDance

Two months later, I've stopped playing Squad (after >3000 hours) - the time of teamplay that's available on servers now compared to three years ago just makes the game frustrating. I think the server pop would need to be somehow increased to 150 or 200 for this mode to feel right. I call it "territory whack-a-mole" .
    About as chaotic as one of those cash-grab cages that they shut people in and you try to grab up all the dollar bills flying all around you, except the dollar bills are hexagons on a map. In other game modes, it can become very unfun if no one communicates, but this mode by far suffers the worst, because it is absolutely imperative that you know what other squads are doing. When a front starts collapsing, 9/10 times it's a quick end and on to the next round.

  • @MatthewOfGilead

    RELOAD OVERHAUL! Reloading should take a page from gears of war and other more tactical shooters. You have a mini-mini game to play there.
    1 quick tap of R reloads your gun and retains your current magazine with a total time of about 3-4 seconds depending on the gun.
    2 taps of R will drop your current mag and replace the mag giving you 2-3 seconds total reload time depending on the gun.
    2 taps of R and one later well timed tap of R will drop the current mag and perform a skilled reload to give you a total reload time of 1-2 seconds depending on the gun. Mis-timing will result in a whiff and you will get the longer reload time as a penalty.

    Id say its pretty good at giving you a more “real” feeling with the screen tunnel vision and supression. Im sorry, but they have to do something because theres no fear of death in a video game, and you wont be making perfectly lined up shots when you hear rounds zipping by. I credit squad for this, no other game has done this in such an impactful way.

    When I start asking people that complain the ICO is unrealistic, "What is it they find unrealistic?" It always comes back to "I think it should be this way" Not I have shot a gun before and understand its really hard to stay steady aim down sights standing freehand, Or it's very tiring to hold a 10lbs rifle out in front of you while controlling recoil. Not even talking about sprinting with a combat load out and then shooting. A quick google search shows that's between 68-120lbs for the US army. It seem people have been condition by games like CS and CoD that you should be able to just head shot everyone. Every is a tier 1 super solider. Some people get it, others are sad they can't 1v3 and win.

    • @UEemperor
      @UEemperor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of people think like that, while running jumping diving sliding fuckin doing anything other than what would NATURALLY happen, which is, slowly moving forward in a steady, normal pace, so that when you need to aim, you CAN ACTUALLY shoulder your rifle properly.
      People think they can do all of these actions without thinking of the consequences.
      THAT SAID, i DO think ICO needs a lot of work on CQB aiming, esp with long range optic rifles. The fact you cant see or shoot properly (NOT accurately, but properly) is absolutely horrible a feeling, esp when youve been looking at an enemy for 3 seconds without being able to AT LEAST see him.

    • @anthonydevellis6708
      @anthonydevellis6708 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get all of that and overall I’m happy with the ICO, but I think some mechanics specifically need to be tuned down a bit because they just aren’t fun. Movement speed and suppression alone are doing the bulk of the work of forcing fire and move gameplay. These are fine. But the weapon sway and sight misalignment things are a bit excessive. I think they should tone the intensity of both down by 25%.

  • @adamsakauye1395

    I agree wholeheartedly. I will say tho, that "Realism" as a conversation around video games is, in polite terms, moot, in less polite terms, a stupid conversation I keep having to have over and over again. Realism gets *in the way* of fun. The Division had "realism" in the form of only 1 person being able to talk to an NPC at a time, so everyone had to wait in line. Boy howdy, what an incredibly real and intensely boring experience. Squad is a game with points and a score. That enough should dispel any conversation about how "real" it is, that is, the level to which it is real.
    What *is* a very interesting conversation, and one I think you've started, is what aspects of the real are developers including, and how are they including them. In this case, it's to emulate the basic movements of modern infantry squads, aka fire and maneuver, and the way that real-world phenomena are included and which ones they include, is to serve this purpose.
    The problem with shooters without a "suppression" mechanic, is that people don't act like they would in a real firefight because they won't actually die or get hurt. It is impossible to make that real (legally, I guess), so our starting point is already abstracted from reality. Why would I ever hide behind a corner and wait for you to stop shooting, when I can just turn that corner, take 5-6 bullets (feeling nothing), and drive a hot one between your eyes and win? You gotta make choices when you're making something. The ICO was a bold choice, and one that made the game, not more real, but more *itself*.

    TC is okay, but often feels too short to really set battle lines and too few tickets. It would be nice if it was more prevalent so people learned to play it because usually you end up running from hex to hex back and forth.
    That said, during the last ICO play test we did a Sumari TC that was probably my most fun round of Squad ever. My squad made a hasty firebase in Police and held out there, occasionally sending out patrols to nearby enemy hexes to find their positions. Crazy fun.

    Whenever people complain about Weapons Sway/Accuracy by citing videos on youtube of people running while shooting, I nearly always get irritated. People forget that youre carrying a lot of weight and that Squads Battles would (realistically) be in a broader war, meaning your soldier won't be as rested as some guys on youtube that have no heavy gear on and had good sleep etc. I never see people complaining about being able to climb high walls in squad, unless theyre trying to justify pre ICO 'unrealistic' gun handling.
    Also TC seems so based. Ill probs look into it.

I personally report any movement I see as I often take fire before i can identify it and want as much help addressing it as soon as practical. I generally appreciate it greatly when friendlies call out movement or potential contact.

    • @HaebyungDance
      @HaebyungDance  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah so generally if we’re not in contact and I spot an enemy I’ll call it out -> then engage. But if we’re already deep in a fight I’ll prioritize engaging enemies before talking.
      During that fight in Hex 00 though I thought I was the only one holding that angle and had a sense of isolation. If someone was next to me I could’ve communicated in local better but I felt that it wouldn’t have been helpful in the squad-wide channel. It was just my thinking in the moment - it’s always better to communicate effectively.

      It depends on what community you join, and how much you want to dedicate time to a community.
      An Arma milsim group will probably have the greatest focus on teamwork and tactics but will be a lot more of a rigid experience.
      A Squad clan will probably be a lot more freeform, and the game itself is pre-structured so you don’t worry about making events.
