Sitting here on my sofa watching you discover all my old dog walks just down the road from me. Oddly enjoyable 😂 Reminded me how lucky I am to live near such beautiful places.
Really well done for highlighting the AONBs around the UK and also for comments about park-ups, which are so, so different to those in most of Europe, as we are currently discovering on our trip in Vandalou which is taking us to Scandinavia via Holland, Belgium and Germany, where we are right now. Oh and yes, how interesting to hear about your DNA discoveries!! Enjoy and we shall look forward to your next video!
We’ve visited a couple of AONBs before but almost accidentally so it’s lovely to be choosing some purposefully, just reminds us of how beautiful this country really is and that not all of the best parts are over touristed either. As you say, completely different ball game to Europe, we’ve got a bit of catching up to do on accommodating campers 😅 Sounds like an incredible trip you’re on, we were talking about taking a similar route at some point ourselves, we’ve heard great things about how welcoming they are for campers in all of the countries you mention. Our DNA results were such a surprise and it was a really fun experience, highly recommend it ❤️
Stoked that you guys are getting sponsors now. Your van build series has been super useful and it’s sick seeing how your channel has grown and found it’s identity after the van build series.
The reason why some car parks have height restrictions is to deter the travelling community from setting up camps and causing damage leaving rubbish and vandalism to the area. I worked at a heritage house which travellers moved onto causing untold damage to the area and when they moved it costs the charity thousands of pounds to put up barriers to make sure it would not happen again.
Unfortunately a lot of the problems u face regarding parking overnight and height restrictions are due to gypsies pulling up in car parks, taking over a majority of it, vandalism illegal dumping and theft! So as per the actions of a few ruin it for everyone else! I loved the whole area it was so beautiful! Looking forward to the next one! Take care x
I know it’s a bit late now but there is a pub in Warton called the maltsrhovel where you can stay overnight in the van, it’s on the Brittstops website. Love the video '
Hey guys 👋 Great video, just wondering do you know about Brit Stops? There looks to be a fair few around Nidderdale. You pay around £40 for a year and then there's lots of pubs, farms and other places that are happy for campers to stay overnight for free, some just ask you buy a drink or bite to eat. Have fun on your next adventure! 🙂
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 😀 We have heard of Brit Stops but we’ve never used it. We don’t typically spend a great deal of time in the UK so weren’t sure it would be worthwhile but at 40 quid it’s not bad at all so we’ll have a look into it. Thanks so much for the tip, anything that makes finding parkups easier gets a big thumbs up from us 👍🙌
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing Yeah we've only used it a few times but had good experiences so far, the last pub we stayed at was great, loads of flat space with water, grey dump and toilets too 👍
So wonderful to see you beautiful people giving your country a chance. My daughter and family ( 2 beautiful kiddos) live in London. I will share with them. All good wishes. ❤nana Mac
We’ve always wanted to explore a bit more of it and there are so many lovely places we want to visit but we’ve always had it in our mind to do it later in life. But we’re enjoying it so far! Hope you’re well ❤️
Fantastic!!! I live in Ingleton which is about 22-24 miles from where you guys were. I've never done the walks etc you've done. I have regularly passed through and have friends that live in Arnside and Wharton. Keeping an eye on your channel; its an easy watch. Take care x
in the 60s and 70s we used to visit relatives in the States in the Pacific Northwest. There were many Finnish who worked in the fish canning plants and the majority had the distinctive eye shape I think you are referring to. Your "Scandinavian" is a strong possibility rather than Asian, but who knows :) Enjoy your channel and glad that all are well and safe.
That’s really interesting! We weren’t aware of that at all, it’s definitely Sar’s eyes that people are referring to when they say that (J here). She’s planning on exploring that Scandinavian link and considering the % was so high you may well be right! Thanks for that fascinating insight 😀
It really is a fantastic area up here, the views are outstanding and there is something fantastic sites to see. I feel privileged to have grown up around here and to currently work in Silverdale. That last lay by you parked is a stones from my house and I’m almost positive I’ll have walked past you that evening. I really hope you enjoyed your stay, despite the not so friendly parking situation
Yeah that must have been an awesome place to grow up! That’s really funny, it’s a very popular spot with dog walkers and walkers in general so we saw tonnes of people that evening and in the morning, everyone was very friendly too 👍
Hari Om Stunning surroundings, no doubt about it. Sorry to hear the pub didn't want o'niters. Wld be interesting to know if either of the other ones did... Anyhoo, you sure made the most of it and I loved the heritage section!! Huggies frae my first ever park up at New Lanark, which is very van friendly at three quid a night, or seventy five for 28! I'll be coming back here... YAM xx
The second pub in the village had a camper in the car park which is what gave us the idea in the first place but we don’t know if they were actually staying. The third one didn’t have its own car park but was adjoined to a car park for the Wharton Crag, it didn’t look to have any signs so could have been a goer but it was completely full and pretty tiny. The place we ended up was lovely though so no complaints 😀 Just googled New Lanark, looks stunning! The mills and nearby waterfalls 🤩 And for that price, incredible. We’ll have to remember that one ourselves. So glad to hear you’re already out and about enjoying it, hope you have the best time ❤️
🤣 that was just a salad topped with roasted chickpeas and sweet potato. Think it had a yoghurt and coriander dressing. Funnily enough we’re thinking about making a van cooking type channel on TH-cam, gonna try and gauge what interest there would be soon 🤔

The UK doesn't want you doing anything on the cheap and manipulates circumstances via the law. They want us all to own a house or rent, meaning that either a bank or landlord makes money from you. The Government believes that someone should profit from everything we do and nothing should be free. Camping used to be cheap but in the last 12-13 years prices of camp sites have become stupid. You park in the middle of nowhere, then you risk being accosted by boy racers/chavs/the local weirdos and doggers.
Lovely part of the country. I'm not surprised by your Scandinavian roots, Sarah; you've got very similar facial features to a Norwegian friend of mine. It'd be funny if she popped up in your DNA matches, as she used to live in Nottingham to!

Yes the weather has been surprisingly good! Lots of sun and very little rain which is unusual 😅 That’s great to hear, I’ve not decided when I’ll start it, it’s still just an idea that I’m mulling over but we’ll definitely mention it on this channel 😀❤️
As van lifers what would be you’re ideal? Designated park ups or car parks , height barriers taken away? No over night parking signs taken away. It seems to be something that is goi g to have to be addressed very soon because you have to go somewhere. Maybe a car park in every town would be a solution but would it be used? There seems to be so many people now going to live in vans now that something has got to be done. Maybe any of you could answer this for me
This is a really good question and whilst we don’t have all the answers, countries like France and Spain have a really simple model that works, with Aires that are generally free to stay at. A lot of municipalities and local councils invest in creating motorhome areas which in turn brings tourism and money into the local areas. It’s slightly different in the uk with space at a premium but there are lots of places where it could definitely work. Before that can happen though, it will probably require a big shift in the attitude of councils and just people in general, but that seems unlikely as things seem to be going downhill rather than getting better with regards to how travelling folk are viewed. Hope that at least partly answers the question. ❤️
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing there are Aires on the Isle of Lewis and Harris most only costing £5-10 a night The biggest problems are the dumping of toilet cassettes in ditches and public toilets and the size of vans on narrow roads and the sheer number of them. I don’t know how that can be sorted. The councils aren’t the points the locals that have had enough of mhs parking badly and they’ve had enough. As you say everything in going downwards and it has to be sorted

England seems to be a little backwards when it comes to park ups with utils. It's almost if residents and councils don't want people in their countryside. I almost feel the English laws and local councils are a little selfish.
Yeah that’s putting it mildly, definitely backwards in that respect. And we agree, there’s 100% an element of selfishness in our opinion. Can understand to some extent in the sense that some places are overtouristed. But specifically for vans, places like France have a really simple blueprint that works and can help solve some of the issues, mainly by accommodating but regulating numbers rather than banning vans outright as we do over here, hopefully we’ll catch up one day 😅
