    I don't know why I love seeing trains run again on long-abandoned or seldom-used tracks. It just makes me happy to see increased economic activity no matter where it occurs. It means jobs and prosperity for those involved and that's always a good thing.

    i used to live across the park from these tracks. i saw them every day from my front window. these trains never go faster than 25km/h on a good day. and the tracks are maintained quite a lot actually. they aren't perfect but then again it is the cayuga spur. now i'm in london and the route i take to school every day crosses over these tracks right before it goes into the main yard in london. from time to time you'll see the slow st thomas train come around the bend and pull into the yard lol. then every other like 10-20 mins you'll have a car rack train rocket through the grade crossing at 90km/h or faster. very diverse rail traffic. makes for a good show sucks when you're late though haha takes forever for them trains to go through even at 90 -_-

    It must be a magic crossing OSRX1. Love, the St. Thomas CN S&C Maintainer.

    Love seeing tracks covered with vegetation. Like how thengineer did not ruin the train's momentum by stopping for the switch to be thrown. Saves fuel, pollution and brake wear and gets the train out of the way of traffic waiting at grade crossings.

    @kylerocks11 Around 1pm every day. It leaves St. Thomas around 5pm. In that time frame they switch, go to local industries and have a 1-hour lunch. Thanks for watching :)

    @bradpville Not much of a siding anymore. It's abandoned except for the part you see them running on. The wye track used to connect to the siding, and then a crossover to the main. However, once the siding was abandoned, they just removed the two switches connecting the siding.

    I wish I didn't live so far away from St. Thomas. This would be a great area to railfan whatever is left of the Railway city.

    @osrx1 I'm not sure. I know that switch has a device to detect which ways its lined, because Manitoba St. (the one with gates), will activate sooner if the switch is aligned in the normal position, because I guess trains could go faster... But yeah, maybe they got so close to the switch that they assumed they would have already switched it to favour the movement?

    I agree. If I had a weedwacker, i'd be out there if I had a whole day to spare. I'd be doing St. Thomas a huge favor, but doubt they'll appreciate or recognize the efforts. At least I got outside and did something constructive.

    Was this on the Cayuga line (soon to be abandonded)?

    • @thebrantfordrailfan
      @thebrantfordrailfan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is on the Cayuga, this is near the beginning of the line, luckily this section will be kept in service to serve Formet just on the edge of St Thomas, everything east of mile 114.55 will be abandoned, but i think trains won't even go that far, only as far as the bridge at New Sarum just beyond Belmont road

      That's too bad.
      I was in Tillsonburg last Friday and took a look along the line; weeds are growing up in the tracks.

    • @thebrantfordrailfan
      @thebrantfordrailfan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crlaw75 It is a shame, however to be fair, the tracks were still just as bad even when the trains ran. But now the weeds are gonna start to take over the ROW completely, that is, if they even have time to grow that much before CN rips them out :(

    They don't use this line much do they. Quite overgrown

    • @chrisvazquez7
      @chrisvazquez7  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's used every day, sometimes several times a day. But you're right, CN doesn't maintain it much. It is definitely a tertiary line as far as CN is concerned. Thanks for watching! :)

    • @chrisvazquez7
      @chrisvazquez7  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Trains in Canada and the US don't have to sound their horn before crossings if permitted by special instructions. Usually quiet zone crossings are found in cities and towns where the horn would wake up people at night. Also, a police officer doesn't have jurisdiction over trains. That would be a Transport Canada (not sure what the US equivalent is) that could discipline the company for non-compliance. But usually, railways police themselves, and managers/trainmasters are the ones that supervise engineers and conductors, making sure they're compliant and working safe.

    • @cdavid8139
      @cdavid8139 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The driver would have laughed and tossed it away. Not going to pay it. Not required to blow the horn with the gate down and a trainman protecting the crossing

      yeah I'm not from St. Thomas, but cn may have let the track go mainly because the probably didn't renew their lease for these tracks. Again I'm not exactly sure what of part of St. Thomas this is. The tracks maybe abandon at this point.

    • @fredlohmann1448
      @fredlohmann1448 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK.

    • @chrisvazquez7
      @chrisvazquez7  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tracks are not abandoned. CN still operates on them. Also, this track is owned by CN, not leased. But yeah, they only service a few industries in St. Thomas, so it's not a maintenance priority for them.
