My favorite part in the cinematic is how the two Aspects, a sentinel and a ruined, fought an epic battle while MF, Karma, Ireila, Riven, Pyke, Olaf, and the Maiden of the Mist are all staring in awe. What a blast!
I like to thing that while the main Senna, Lucian, Vayne, Graves, Gwen and Akshan were fighting Viego there was a huge battle where Vorick, Maokai and other Sentinuls were fighting Hecarim, Thresh and the Ruined army
1. Yorick is nish champion > Yorick doesn’t sell much skins 2. Yorick doesn’t sell much skins > he does not get his lore recognition. 3. Yorick has no recognition, he is in no media > he keeps being unpopular and sells no skins.
Which is why its pointless to follow the lore now... Money runs the lore now. If the champion is ugly even if he/she is important in the lore its retconned.
the thing with characters like yorick is even thouh they only are populare every 10 full moons they enjoy fan favoretism in the lore yorick is such a character with maokai they are highly likable and chill not treating them well is always a rly rly dumb idea. some others are for example likable but not THAT populare ingame asol azir nasus ( i think?) new - malphite zac i mean you rly like those for one reason or another but imagine you take a character alot of ppl like as a character and just ignore that character during the main event they where meant for thats just straight stupid

Great to see Yorick's character arc conclude in a satisfactory way. It's not like he'll get a second, separate chance to get his revenge on the ruined king. This was supposed to be Yorick's highest moment, instead all he does is give away his Gamer Maiden Bath Water, Maiden included in the package.
My favorite part was when Ruined miss fortune had her crew attack the sentinels with gunfire, but Pyke, and Rengar appeared out of nowhere to kill her crew. My other favorite part was when Irelia, and Riven put their differences aside, and decide to work together by making Riven riding Irelia's blade like a surfboard to wind slash Ruined Draven using both of her blades(sentinel and rune)
"Not bad" is not enough. They already pull off a great lore event in Burning Tides, but here? More than half of the Sentinels are missing, Unbound Thresh is "cannon" for what? Why are the Ruined champions necessary when Karthus, Hecarim, Elise and Thresh exist. "We didn't forget Yorick Mori"... Ha! He might as well be erased from the lore if he is not present here, I mean, is not like the Maiden of the Mist was the first fragment of Isolde we knew about, years before Viego was even teased. To me, there was no point to this event with they way they handle it.
Elise and Karthus have nothing to do with Viego what so ever, on the other hand they could have shown or tease at least Hecarim or Kalista, the first being part of the invasion of Demacia and the second being the betrayed soul of his former right hand
I loved watching Yorick finally complete his mission of defeating the Black Mist with the help of Maokai. My favorite part was definitely when the Maiden, who also has a piece of Isolde, was overpowered and absorbed along with Senna & Gwen.
And it was especially great to see Kalista having a great end to her tragic existence and story - not being forgotten til she'll be used as a mini-boss in an army of Thresh minions.
"Not bad". Sure. If we ignore that the main characters of this arc aren't there (Maokai, Yorick...), alongside with all the other Shadow Isles caracteres, the other sentinels and ruined characters. Also no Thresh, too. There's no way to someone who spend years reading and learning about the lore be "fine" with this. It's just sad. I'm mad.

@@RikTaa the game was supposed to be a prequel, what is it supposed to do if we already knew what's gonna happen ? If Viego is gone then that means that Thresh, Kalista, Ledros, Hecarim,.. All the other champions related to the Ruined should be gone too because Viego is their root of existence. This event was rushed so much that it's nothing more but a hot pile of garbage, they could've just waited for the game to come out first. And now this is what we get, dont make excuses for them please.
I get the feeling that Thresh is going to start a second ruination, although this one would be worse and more chaotic. With this one Viego was actively seeking objects, and as such went directly for specific locations. Given Thresh's goals, I could imagine his being more vast, but at the same time slower. Given the reason for this ruination, I think Vex would also return for the second, since Thresh and Vex's goals also align more than Vex's did with Viego's.

Seriously, he is really trying to save this trainwreck. Praising all the different art an animation to overshadow the completely lacking lore. The cinematic itself? STUNNING! As they always are.... the lore is missing and I really wish Necrit would be more vocal and critical of it. He is our one voice in this community that everyone respects when it comes to lore and he is not taking a stand :(

I am not trying to say that you cannot be disappointed by the event - you sure can, if it disappointed you, but those who enjoyed it or at least find it to be somewhat okay should have the same right to express their opinion. Yeah, there certainly were better ways of handling it and some parts, lore-wise, were rather questionable, but I'd not straight up call out those who find something good about it, for lying or holding back. Like, by all means, there are lots of fun and good things about this event from the stand point of someone who doesn't care about the lore or is more casual. The event was fun, it was spicy, we got some new skins and it was a blast to go through with of course comedic moments and an overall fun and interesting thematic. The issue is that it could have been better. It, as it stands right now, is 'good'. But 'good' is NOT good enough when it comes to something this massive for the game. If it was something else, like maybe a festival in the freljord that was just fun and meant nothing and would come back next year? That would be fine. But this is something people have waited for, for literal YEARS. Maybe not 10 years entirely, but a long while nonetheless. Teasers, theories, build ups. So much has been culminating up to this moment and now...its just lackluster. Imagine if the marvel movies, all which lead up to end game, had a distasteful ending like this. Like if Endgame was instead like 45 minutes long and it just had one really bad fight with Thanos and then the characters said goobye and that was that, end of movie. Most people would be LIVID. Same thing here. Sure, Avengers: Endgame could still be 'good' if it was 45 minutes and had some great animation and fancy explosions, but just cause its 'good' is not actually good enough. It needs to be fantastic, incredible, mind blowing. Otherwise its not worth it and a huge let down to the fans. Its an insult, really. And this right here? Is an insult to all the fans who genuinely love the lore and the game.
To be fair, thats something that I watch other people who cover lore for another game doing: They try to fix some bad writing or plot holes by saying that the lore has potential. But here is the deal, once a company make that decision of make a ingame event more comercial than anything else, that stuff will come back with more frequency. That Just the beginning of the ruination of the LoL lore.

Unbound thresh is just a free skin on the pc but on wild rift it is hes base fucking skin they are so lazy they cant even give the real thresh skin to the sirvers that want it which proves me even more that they are lazy as fuck
and there was literally no deadline that said this event has to be out halfway through the year vs waiting till halloween waiting till end of year ending it in a final end of the season finaly waiting for all pieces to be out and developed

why did people want her to become a champion it just seems dumb to me, a character in the lore yes that's interesting. But make a champion out of a seamstress wit no magic power who gives other champions (Yorick, Gwen, Senna) their powers by being dead doesn't make any sense for a champion.
They won't give a finale, people are naive if they think that anything like that will happen. They were dragging their feet with development of the lore since reset, how long was it, 5 years now? 4? They have many other games and a MMO, of course nothing will happen, all stories we get are about "let's continue this a little bit a include this and this characters but don't conclude anything". Warcraft 3 ended the same way - with halfway conclusion of Arthas becoming one with Lich King, meanwhile everything else was just a preparation for WoW. Same here - Viego will escape his confinement, it will be LoL MMO expansion
I'm wondering if this event would've gone smoother if the game came out or if they delayed it. It seems to me they had to make story liberties to make this work due to the game delay. The only three sentinels that make a lot of sense to me are Irelia, Riven, and Vayne the rest are kind of just there. I don't quite understand why Hecarim, Thresh, Yorick, Maokai, and the Mist Maiden don't get more attention here. This event gives off Runeterran "Infinity War" vibes (Thresh would make a good Loki LOL). It would've been huge if both sides just had a huge clash EVEN IF the lore didn't quite make sense for it. Now the lore just doesn't make sense AND is underwhelming which is disappointing.
I'm wary about Arcane. I hope it's great, and I hope it's all it looks to be, but... now I'm worried that Characters are going to be left out for no decent reason. (I don't consider "Selling Skins" and "Play Rates" to be decent reasons) I'm still going to be watching it the day it's out in my region on Netflix, but I'm going to be more anxious now than I was when the Jinx video came out.

I mean, I like the idea of the event and it was such a cool thing to see so much effort across multiple games happen at the same time. Although I am disappointed about how the characters were handled or not used (looking at you Yorick and Maokai) and that the story didn’t really progress, when I weigh it against what we did get: - Interesting new Champions (Akshan, Viego, Gwen, Vex) - A whole bunch of new Cards in LoR - Some pretty cool skins for champions that I like - A well drawn (not necessarily written) comic in WR - A nice event in WildRift (where the characters are actually written in character!) - The assurance that Riot can and is willing to put some effort in to doing big lore events (albeit the writing was sorely neglected). I’m not too mad. There’s always next time where they can put the feedback to use.
isolde stabbed him to death in the blessed isles. tresh brought him back but didn't necesarily "revive" him. Akshan did by killing isolde. I expected him to go brown hair human skin again but they made do with the hole.
And with Pantheon prestige skin they didn't even bother to show even though that was for me the only truly interesting skin idea in this whole event ...

My dude, I know you still want to be on good terms with Riot and the LPP etc, but you can be critical about the event w/o having to bash them. That's an option instead of trying to say "it's not bad (but it's also not good, a.k.a. barely passing). You can say X, Y, Z, (and the entire alphabet) didn't make sense in the event and contradicted lore w/o being mean. It seems like you think the only 2 options that there are, are either flaming or be positive and thus choose being (fake) positive. You are pretty much the face of the lore community and if you put up this fake positivity about the event all the non-knowledgable/casual lore fans with surface-level knowledge will think the event was fine and that the hardcore lore community is overreacting. And as a result, Riot won't take the backlash as seriously as they should. Like the only "negative" thing you said about the event was that the setup was a mess and that it was disappointing, which really sugarcoats it and barely describes how bad it really is.
He's not sugarcoating anything he's just keeping it brief. I'm sure he has a lot to say about how they handled a lot of the other characters and lore pieces. Considering it's a live reaction I wouldn't hold it against him if he is reserving his judgements until he has formed a cemented opinion on it. Yes, he can just be critical without bashing Riot directly. However, it's on live stream and I'd say risking your connections by making criticisms without fully formulating your opinions could go sideways. Especially since time and time again the internet has proved that no matter what you say can and will be taken out of context or taken the wrong way. I think for the most part he was just focusing on the positives for now or that really is his opinion and at the end of the day there's not much you can do about that.
@@sjejdjsjdjs Someone can have a different opinion yes, but in this case, if you are knowledgable on the lore (which he most certainly is) it's impossible to be positive about the event as it literally contradicts so much of the previous lore, the only possible difference of opinion there among lore experts is if you think it's bad, really bad, or really really bad. The only way you can think this event was good is if you have little to no knowledge of the lore prior to the event since then you don't see all the contradictions with the already established lore. And if that is the case, hey, I don't mind, enjoy what you can, but for those who are knowledgable on the lore they can't say the event was even close to passable/fine and actually mean it (which again, is the category Necrit falls in). It's like doodling a poorly drawn drawing in terms technicality and gifting it to a kid who doesn't know any better and is happy with it (which is fine, a.k.a. the surface-level knowledge lore players in this case) vs handing that same badly drawn drawing in terms of technicality over as part of your portfolio for an art college or a technical art-based job and then obviously being denied for the poor quality (players that are knowledgable on the lore being nothing but negative in this case). Both are still opinions, but as someone that knows what proper usage of techniques are in art/hiring someone for their technical drawing skill you can't genuinely think it's good in that case or you'd be lying to yourself, a.k.a. a fake positive opinion.

The visual novel couldn't convey any of the emotions it wanted us to feel. When Akshan shot Isolde, I felt nothing. When they defeated Viego and we had that "and they lived happily ever after" moment, the only thing I was thinking about was "oh, alright, that's it?". This cinematic made my hair stand up. It was so much more impactful than the VN.
That might be true but it was still nothing compared to what i would expect ... The absolute lack of consistent tone of the event was damaging not even mentioning the plotholes and inconsistency with preceding lore.
All these years of preparation, a whole year, new game mode and an entirely new _game_ dedicated to this, and what we get is at best an unbridled meh, and at worst pretty upsetting. Yes, Riot, you did forget Yorick. You forgot him, Kalista, Hecarim, Poppy and countless others. But hey, at least you made a "look at all these shirtless champions" joke, so go on ahead, pat yourself on the back for a job well done, because we sure as hell won't.

My favorite part was waiting for pyke W and Rengar R to wear off so I can see them. Sucks that all the other sentinels had to gaurd the boat, and all the other ruined champions slept in, and thresh clocked out on his 30min break.
It doesn’t give me the feeling that it’s finished. I get the feeling that it’s more coming. Like Riot knows and are only teasing with the lack of lore (they might not, but I hope 🤞)

I like the part where Pyke's harpoon went across the screen, and then the camera pans to Pyke showing him with all the other sentinels. And then an epic fight ensues. The Sentinels of light vs Viego's army. The fate of Runeterra depending on their battle. But beating Pantheon was too hard and the Sentinels suffer heavy casualties, until Yorick and Kalista arrive to help them win the war. Rengar and Riven's scenes were pretty cool too.
I think hes talking about just the animations storytelling and not the visual novel. He mentioned the silliness of lucian making a deal with thresh in a previous video

Yeah i was think the same. Where the f was Yorick, Maokai, Irelia, Diana, Rengar, Pyke ? Why included so many characters if you can't even write a story properly. Viego magically became dumb and forgot how strong he is and his power. Where the fuck was Hecarim, Thresh, Kalista and Ledros ? Their whole existence is based around the Ruined King and Riot dont give a fuk about them. I was expecting a 15-20 minutes cinematic with epic fight like in Avengers Engame where Ruined Karma, MF, Draven and Pantheon are gonna have an epic clash with the Sentinels and instead i got this hot pile of garbage. Isolde soul was finally free, but doesnt that make Gwen returns back to a doll ? There're so many plot holes. They also make Viego looks like a loser, a mad guy who just wanted to destroy the whole world for no reason, the Sentinels are the one that caused all this trouble yet riot potrayed them as "Heroes". Viego Mist scour the entire land of Runeterra, it even infested the Sun Disk of Shurima and you're telling me that in the gReAt fInAlE bAtTlE, only couple of weak-ass sentinels showed up ? What the fuk bruh ? Where are all the people from other regions ? They just pretended like nothing happened ? Bullshit, a Ruination event that have been built up in lore for over 9 years got 2 cinematics, about 8 minutes screen time and NO fuking major character like Yorick or Maokai made it in, just wow. They dont give a fuk about the lore anymore, first unbound Thresh that looked like an over-sexualized eboy and now this hApPy eNdiNg dIsNey sTyLe where the good guys win and the bad guy lose. My disapointment is immesurable and my day is RUINED.

It's not bad is my coping mechanism with this event tbh. It really pains me how much potential Viego had as a spin on the generic edge lord anime villain only for this event to amount all of that to an easy victory for the heros at best...
Side note i love how when he slams his sword into the ground it is the exact same positioning for lack of a better term as his ultimate icon, Heartbreaker. But all in all you almost feel bad for viego especially after he screams "No" and drops the little music box toy thingy but that might just be me
I do appreciate how Isolde is saying she is sad that Viego brought her back, but Viego who has spent so long trying to bring her back doesn't seem to hear her at all.
I really like the part when pyka stopped viego blade with his hook right when he would kill riven, I'm glad riot made him a sentinel to have at least an impact in the story and not to only sell skins and accomodate to a goddamm mobile game.
You know considering how much Mordekaiser is centered around a realm of death I'm surprised he wasn't forshadowed to be around in the story and then when Thresh shows up at the end just slams his mace on him and goes "that's cute. Make way for the real Lord of Death."

I'm not even as mad with the nitpicky plot holes and inconsistencies in the middle. To me there are a lot of issues with the concept and execution in general that simply make the event as a whole suck (including the ending). * Unclear and unexplained stakes. Why is it bad that Viego restores Isolde? What will happen if he succeeds? Why do we want to stop him? * The story gets very repetitive for the sake of going through all regions to "collect the skins". The whole issue with champions being selected seemingly based on skins forces this, and the issue only gets reinforced due to the over reliance on coincidences and plot contrivances. At the end this whole thing doesn't even matter, so it just feels like filler (both for the story and for Riot's wallet). * No sense of relative power level between characters. Viego will beat the Sentinels on every turn and at the end he loses like a chump. Diana suddenly can't fight Graves??? Thresh solos like half the Sentinels for no reason?? * Lack of impact to the world and reaction from relevant characters for what is a worldwide apocalypse-level threat. Morgana doesn't come out of hiding to protect her people, no government get involved, the best look we have into how the Ruination affects the world is with the LoR cards actually. Yorick... you may argue about the nitpicky stuff about the Water, but he still got robbed of his entire story having any relevancy or conclusion. * Lack of consequence and changes to the status quo to the characters directly involved and the world as a whole. Senna and Gwen are somehow alive despite Isolde being gone (not to mention that Senna gets resurrected by killing Isolde even though she was actually killed by Thresh years ago?). The Isles are the same, except replace Viego with Hot!Thresh. Apparently nobody else in the world cared, so everyone just goes back to their old lives? Will Diana just go back to Targon to run from Leona again? * The characters who did get affected are yanked out of their previous lore and have no clear direction now. What is even Riven's story arc? As much as seeing her interact with Irelia is interesting, this completely messes up with what was going on with her development. Will we just see her again in the arena for next year's cinematic like nothing happened? Or is she a farmer again? Like, don't get me wrong, having Viego restore Isolde at the end just to have her say no to him and die in front of him could have been a powerful scene, having the parallels between Viego, Lucian and Akshan, and so on. That is, IF everything else around it wasn't trashfire. There's a good idea in there, but it's pretty clear that everything got pretty messed up by forcing the skin champions into the scene and making the narrative revolve around that instead of the characters that should actually have been central. Also, how did we not get stories for each region in the months we had until this point? They could have made a lot of things feel more natural with just that. And of course, having no courage to change the world at the end.
My personal head-cannon is now that Riot is retconning Maokai to be like Malphite - created due to the Void, from Ixtal now and no longer part of the Blessed Isles. (though I'd be vastly amused if we got a colour story where a Ruined Maokai was fighting Sentinel Galio somewhere on the Isles while all this was taking place. Seriously, there's a SENTINEL GALIO in TFT, which I know isn't Canon to Runterra, but... Sentinel Galio? WTF?)
Also something you missed is that Viego no longer has the hole in his chest that was made when Isolde stabbed him through his heart with his own blade. That could explain his loss of power which caused his crown to disappear as he was frozen by Gwen
Pandemic is not an excuse, they could have just delayed the event and the game for next year and we will wait for something more completed and polished. I am so disappointed about this event and how the lore just changed from the most epic lore that have been in the game for about ten years to becoming an uncompleted lore with holes and missed opportunities. Like where is Maokai? Karthus? Kalista? Hecariam, the ruined king soldier? Ledroius? Yorick who is wanting to end the life of Viego just gave water drops? just sent the maiden? he should have been with them. Where are the gods of freljord? Why Diana is afraid of Viego and Thresh when she is a god? how did Pantheon be under the ruined king when he is an aspect of war? And where are the other aspects? where was Jarvan doing when his city has fallen? And noxsus too did swain just do nothing? Now with Viego not being there, where is Thresh? What happened to the black mist? What will happen to the interactions in the game? And of course you bring the black rose in the interactions? where are they sipping tea? I am so disappointed on how everything just went on, just hoping they will write an explanation to everything now and the rest of the missed lore?

It was as bad as the Light Novel, just in a different way. No Yorick (which was a sucky cameo, but at least it was THERE and so was the Maiden), no Thresh at the end, etc. Eh. This entire event has done something I didn't think possible - it's dampened my enthusiasm for Arcane. I don't EXPECT Arcane to be as disappointing as this (or disappointing at all), but I think now that if a character is missing from Arcane for no particular reason (say, Camille) or included for no particular reason (say, the Crownguards passing through or maybe we see a young Darius and Draven in a Noxian Legion in a cameo) I might find myself actually wondering if that was a decision made from a Business perspective (ie: Not a lot of skins sold, don't give her a spotlight; they sell the most skins, give them a spotlight) rather than a creative one.
This Event was WAY too reliant on skins. Lore team NEEDED to somehow squeeze all of these unrelated champions somehow, which didn't leave room for actually important ones. Arcane is a seperate project that's being done completely outside of League of Legends (the game) itself, so I really hope the writers will have creative freedom on this one. Now that skins are out of the picture, why would they create something bad when we know these people are capable of creating amazing stories and cinematics?
I have been watching you for over 4 years, Necrit, and I really enjoy your content. This is the first time that I comment as well, so far I just enjoyed your content. I mean no hate, but you know that this whole event, lore wise, is very dissapointing and superficial. If you do not address this trash lore event and complain to riot (as you are a big voice in lore community) you lose my respect and loyalty as a watcher. This should mean nothing career wise, but this is about principles and what you stand for. I'm out, think about future events, with this superficial approach, think about morde, about the void, the watchers, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna keep saying "this is not bad", because I have not followed this lore because "it is not bad", I followed it beacuse it was an amazing world build by talented people. It is a shame that THE ruined king and shadow isles were treated so disrespectfully (lore wise).
The mist didn't exactly spawn from viego. Sure he caused it and has control over it, but the mist doesn't truly come from him, not all of it at least. Plus he was merely sealed away, so that could be another reason why the mist didn't really just vanished
Ok, I'm just gonna drop my opinion here. To me, the ruination event wasnt an issue because of how they handled a lot of the champion, but it was because they made the skins canon. Had the skins been an "what if" situation like blackfrost is, they could have focused on the champions that are actually tied to the ruination like hecarim, Kallista, karthus maokai and yorick, instead of trying to fit these other champions intot he story and failing miserably

My favorite part in the cinematic is how the two Aspects, a sentinel and a ruined, fought an epic battle while MF, Karma, Ireila, Riven, Pyke, Olaf, and the Maiden of the Mist are all staring in awe. What a blast!

I like to thing that while the main Senna, Lucian, Vayne, Graves, Gwen and Akshan were fighting Viego there was a huge battle where Vorick, Maokai and other Sentinuls were fighting Hecarim, Thresh and the Ruined army
1. Yorick is nish champion > Yorick doesn’t sell much skins
2. Yorick doesn’t sell much skins > he does not get his lore recognition.
3. Yorick has no recognition, he is in no media > he keeps being unpopular and sells no skins.
Which is why its pointless to follow the lore now... Money runs the lore now. If the champion is ugly even if he/she is important in the lore its retconned.

My favorite part was when Ruined miss fortune had her crew attack the sentinels with gunfire, but Pyke, and Rengar appeared out of nowhere to kill her crew.
My other favorite part was when Irelia, and Riven put their differences aside, and decide to work together by making Riven riding Irelia's blade like a surfboard to wind slash Ruined Draven using both of her blades(sentinel and rune)
"Not bad" is not enough. They already pull off a great lore event in Burning Tides, but here? More than half of the Sentinels are missing, Unbound Thresh is "cannon" for what? Why are the Ruined champions necessary when Karthus, Hecarim, Elise and Thresh exist. "We didn't forget Yorick Mori"... Ha! He might as well be erased from the lore if he is not present here, I mean, is not like the Maiden of the Mist was the first fragment of Isolde we knew about, years before Viego was even teased. To me, there was no point to this event with they way they handle it.

I loved watching Yorick finally complete his mission of defeating the Black Mist with the help of Maokai. My favorite part was definitely when the Maiden, who also has a piece of Isolde, was overpowered and absorbed along with Senna & Gwen.
best parts by far, rly made the cinematic feel so much cooler and fullfilling the whole character journey
And it was especially great to see Kalista having a great end to her tragic existence and story - not being forgotten til she'll be used as a mini-boss in an army of Thresh minions.

I loved how maokai and yorick finally fulffiled their literall life purpose , by participating in the battle against the ruined king.
I get the feeling that Thresh is going to start a second ruination, although this one would be worse and more chaotic. With this one Viego was actively seeking objects, and as such went directly for specific locations. Given Thresh's goals, I could imagine his being more vast, but at the same time slower. Given the reason for this ruination, I think Vex would also return for the second, since Thresh and Vex's goals also align more than Vex's did with Viego's.

Like, by all means, there are lots of fun and good things about this event from the stand point of someone who doesn't care about the lore or is more casual. The event was fun, it was spicy, we got some new skins and it was a blast to go through with of course comedic moments and an overall fun and interesting thematic. The issue is that it could have been better. It, as it stands right now, is 'good'. But 'good' is NOT good enough when it comes to something this massive for the game.
If it was something else, like maybe a festival in the freljord that was just fun and meant nothing and would come back next year? That would be fine. But this is something people have waited for, for literal YEARS. Maybe not 10 years entirely, but a long while nonetheless. Teasers, theories, build ups. So much has been culminating up to this moment and now...its just lackluster. Imagine if the marvel movies, all which lead up to end game, had a distasteful ending like this.
Like if Endgame was instead like 45 minutes long and it just had one really bad fight with Thanos and then the characters said goobye and that was that, end of movie. Most people would be LIVID.
Same thing here. Sure, Avengers: Endgame could still be 'good' if it was 45 minutes and had some great animation and fancy explosions, but just cause its 'good' is not actually good enough. It needs to be fantastic, incredible, mind blowing. Otherwise its not worth it and a huge let down to the fans. Its an insult, really. And this right here? I'm wondering if this event would've gone smoother if the game came out or if they delayed it. It seems to me they had to make story liberties to make this work due to the game delay. The only three sentinels that make a lot of sense to me are Irelia, Riven, and Vayne the rest are kind of just there. I don't quite understand why Hecarim, Thresh, Yorick, Maokai, and the Mist Maiden don't get more attention here. This event gives off Runeterran "Infinity War" vibes (Thresh would make a good Loki LOL). It would've been huge if both sides just had a huge clash EVEN IF the lore didn't quite make sense for it. Now the lore just doesn't make sense AND is underwhelming which is disappointing.
In my opinion this whole event was very disappointing.

I'm wary about Arcane. I hope it's great, and I hope it's all it looks to be, but... now I'm worried that Characters are going to be left out for no decent reason. (I don't consider "Selling Skins" and "Play Rates" to be decent reasons) I'm still going to be watching it the day it's out in my region on Netflix, but I'm going to be more anxious now than I was when the Jinx video came out.

I like the idea of the event and it was such a cool thing to see so much effort across multiple games happen at the same time.
Although I am disappointed about how the characters were handled or not used (looking at you Yorick and Maokai) and that the story didn’t really progress, when I weigh it against what we did get:
- Interesting new Champions (Akshan, Viego, Gwen, Vex)
- A whole bunch of new Cards in LoR
- Some pretty cool skins for champions that I like
- A well drawn (not necessarily written) comic in WR
- A nice event in WildRift (where the characters are actually written in character!)
- The assurance that Riot can and is willing to put some effort in to doing big lore events (albeit the writing was sorely neglected).
I’m not too mad.
There’s always next time where they can put the feedback to use.

My dude, I know you still want to be on good terms with Riot and the LPP etc, but you can be critical about the event w/o having to bash them. That's an option instead of trying to say "it's not bad (but it's also not good, a.k.a. barely passing). You can say X, Y, Z, (and the entire alphabet) didn't make sense in the event and contradicted lore w/o being mean. It seems like you think the only 2 options that there are, are either flaming or be positive and thus choose being (fake) positive. You are pretty much the face of the lore community and if you put up this fake positivity about the event all the non-knowledgable/casual lore fans with surface-level knowledge will think the event was fine and that the hardcore lore community is overreacting. And as a result, Riot won't take the backlash as seriously as they should. Like the only "negative" thing you said about the event was that the setup was a mess and that it was disappointing, which really sugarcoats it and barely describes how bad it really is.

He's not sugarcoating anything he's just keeping it brief. I'm sure he has a lot to say about how they handled a lot of the other characters and lore pieces. Considering it's a live reaction I wouldn't hold it against him if he is reserving his judgements until he has formed a cemented opinion on it. Yes, he can just be critical without bashing Riot directly. However, it's on live stream and I'd say risking your connections by making criticisms without fully formulating your opinions could go sideways. Especially since time and time again the internet has proved that no matter what you say can and will be taken out of context or taken the wrong way. I think for the most part he was just focusing on the positives for now or that really is his opinion and at the end of the day there's not much you can do about that.
@@sjejdjsjdjs Someone can have a different opinion yes, but in this case, if you are knowledgable on the lore (which he most certainly is) it's impossible to be positive about the event as it literally contradicts so much of the previous lore, the only possible difference of opinion there among lore experts is if you think it's bad, really bad, or really really bad. The only way you can think this event was good is if you have little to no knowledge of the lore prior to the event since then you don't see all the contradictions with the already established lore. And if that is the case, hey, I don't mind, enjoy what you can, but for those who are knowledgable on the lore they can't say the event was even close to passable/fine and actually mean it (which again, is the category Necrit falls in).
It's like doodling a poorly drawn drawing in terms technicality and gifting it to a kid who doesn't know any better and is happy with it (which is fine, a.k.a. the surface-level knowledge lore players in this case) vs handing that same badly drawn drawing in terms of technicality over as part of your portfolio for an art college or a technical art-based job and then obviously being denied for the poor quality (players that are knowledgable on the lore being nothing but negative in this case). Both are still opinions, but as someone that knows what proper usage of techniques are in art/hiring someone for their technical drawing skill you can't genuinely think it's good in that case or you'd be lying to yourself, a.k.a. a fake positive opinion.

The visual novel couldn't convey any of the emotions it wanted us to feel. When Akshan shot Isolde, I felt nothing. When they defeated Viego and we had that "and they lived happily ever after" moment, the only thing I was thinking about was "oh, alright, that's it?". This cinematic made my hair stand up. It was so much more impactful than the VN.
That might be true but it was still nothing compared to what i would expect ...
The absolute lack of consistent tone of the event was damaging not even mentioning the plotholes and inconsistency with preceding lore.
It feels like Necrit keeps repeating “it’s not bad”/“I’m fine with this” to convince himself xd
The only thing I’ll give this video is Viego’s voice actor fucking kills it. When Akshan kills Isolde, the pain in his voice is so believable.
All these years of preparation, a whole year, new game mode and an entirely new _game_ dedicated to this, and what we get is at best an unbridled meh, and at worst pretty upsetting. Yes, Riot, you did forget Yorick. You forgot him, Kalista, Hecarim, Poppy and countless others. But hey, at least you made a "look at all these shirtless champions" joke, so go on ahead, pat yourself on the back for a job well done, because we sure as hell won't.

My favorite part was waiting for pyke W and Rengar R to wear off so I can see them. Sucks that all the other sentinels had to gaurd the boat, and all the other ruined champions slept in, and thresh clocked out on his 30min break.
The ruination was a huge catastrophy to Runeterra
and probably a good warm up before Mordekaiser is like "Aight my time has come"

The game is a prequel and it was planned to release before this event. At this moment it serves no purpose because we now know how the story will end

When yorick appeared with his goul army and started to attack Viego's mist wraths it really became good.
Gwen and senna are alive because isolde "killed them" when She revived. Absolving Isolde meant ressurrecting them. At least that's what I understood
I like the part where Pyke's harpoon went across the screen, and then the camera pans to Pyke showing him with all the other sentinels.
And then an epic fight ensues. The Sentinels of light vs Viego's army. The fate of Runeterra depending on their battle. But beating Pantheon was too hard and the Sentinels suffer heavy casualties, until Yorick and Kalista arrive to help them win the war. Rengar and Riven's scenes were pretty cool too.

Yeah i was think the same. Where the f was Yorick, Maokai, Irelia, Diana, Rengar, Pyke ? Why included so many characters if you can't even write a story properly. Viego magically became dumb and forgot how strong he is and his power. Where the fuck was Hecarim, Thresh, Kalista and Ledros ? Their whole existence is based around the Ruined King and Riot dont give a fuk about them. I was expecting a 15-20 minutes cinematic with epic fight like in Avengers Engame where Ruined Karma, MF, Draven and Pantheon are gonna have an epic clash with the Sentinels and instead i got this hot pile of garbage. Isolde soul was finally free, but doesnt that make Gwen returns back to a doll ? There're so many plot holes. They also make Viego looks like a loser, a mad guy who just wanted to destroy the whole world for no reason, the Sentinels are the one that caused all this trouble yet riot potrayed them as "Heroes". Viego Mist scour the entire land of Runeterra, it even infested the Sun Disk of Shurima and you're telling me that in the gReAt fInAlE bAtTlE, only couple of weak-ass sentinels showed up ? What the fuk bruh ? Where are all the people from other regions ? They just pretended like nothing happened ? Bullshit, a Ruination event that have been built up in lore for over 9 years got 2 cinematics, about 8 minutes screen time and NO fuking major character like Yorick or Maokai made it in, just wow. They dont give a fuk about the lore anymore, first unbound Thresh that looked like an over-sexualized eboy and now this hApPy eNdiNg dIsNey sTyLe where the good guys win and the bad guy lose. My disapointment is immesurable and my day is RUINED.

Side note i love how when he slams his sword into the ground it is the exact same positioning for lack of a better term as his ultimate icon, Heartbreaker. But all in all you almost feel bad for viego especially after he screams "No" and drops the little music box toy thingy but that might just be me

I do appreciate how Isolde is saying she is sad that Viego brought her back, but Viego who has spent so long trying to bring her back doesn't seem to hear her at all.
I really like the part when pyka stopped viego blade with his hook right when he would kill riven, I'm glad riot made him a sentinel to have at least an impact in the story and not to only sell skins and accomodate to a goddamm mobile game.
Ngl imagine instead of ruining Pyke and Rengar, having Yorick, and Kalista exact vengeance after Yoricks army is complete, complete Endgame style

I'm not even as mad with the nitpicky plot holes and inconsistencies in the middle.
To me there are a lot of issues with the concept and execution in general that simply make the event as a whole suck (including the ending).
* Unclear and unexplained stakes. Why is it bad that Viego restores Isolde? What will happen if he succeeds? Why do we want to stop him?
* The story gets very repetitive for the sake of going through all regions to "collect the skins". The whole issue with champions being selected seemingly based on skins forces this, and the issue only gets reinforced due to the over reliance on coincidences and plot contrivances. At the end this whole thing doesn't even matter, so it just feels like filler (both for the story and for Riot's wallet).
* No sense of relative power level between characters. Viego will beat the Sentinels on every turn and at the end he loses like a chump. Diana suddenly can't fight Graves??? Thresh solos like half the Sentinels for no reason??
* Lack of impact to the world and reaction from relevant characters for what is a worldwide apocalypse-level threat. Morgana doesn't come out of hiding to protect her people, no government get involved, the best look we have into how the Ruination affects the world is with the LoR cards actually. Yorick... you may argue about the nitpicky stuff about the Water, but he still got robbed of his entire story having any relevancy or conclusion.
* Lack of consequence and changes to the status quo to the characters directly involved and the world as a whole. Senna and Gwen are somehow alive despite Isolde being gone (not to mention that Senna gets resurrected by killing Isolde even though she was actually killed by Thresh years ago?). The Isles are the same, except replace Viego with Hot!Thresh. Apparently nobody else in the world cared, so everyone just goes back to their old lives? Will Diana just go back to Targon to run from Leona again?
* The characters who did get affected are yanked out of their previous lore and have no clear direction now. What is even Riven's story arc? As much as seeing her interact with Irelia is interesting, this completely messes up with what was going on with her development. Will we just see her again in the arena for next year's cinematic like nothing happened? Or is she a farmer again?
Like, don't get me wrong, having Viego restore Isolde at the end just to have her say no to him and die in front of him could have been a powerful scene, having the parallels between Viego, Lucian and Akshan, and so on. That is, IF everything else around it wasn't trashfire. There's a good idea in there, but it's pretty clear that everything got pretty messed up by forcing the skin champions into the scene and making the narrative revolve around that instead of the characters that should actually have been central. Also, how did we not get stories for each region in the months we had until this point? They could have made a lot of things feel more natural with just that. And of course, having no courage to change the world at the end.

My personal head-cannon is now that Riot is retconning Maokai to be like Malphite - created due to the Void, from Ixtal now and no longer part of the Blessed Isles.
(though I'd be vastly amused if we got a colour story where a Ruined Maokai was fighting Sentinel Galio somewhere on the Isles while all this was taking place. Seriously, there's a SENTINEL GALIO in TFT, which I know isn't Canon to Runterra, but... Sentinel Galio? WTF?)
Also something you missed is that Viego no longer has the hole in his chest that was made when Isolde stabbed him through his heart with his own blade. That could explain his loss of power which caused his crown to disappear as he was frozen by Gwen
Pandemic is not an excuse, they could have just delayed the event and the game for next year and we will wait for something more completed and polished. I am so disappointed about this event and how the lore just changed from the most epic lore that have been in the game for about ten years to becoming an uncompleted lore with holes and missed opportunities. Like where is Maokai? Karthus? Kalista? Hecariam, the ruined king soldier? Ledroius? Yorick who is wanting to end the life of Viego just gave water drops? just sent the maiden? he should have been with them. Where are the gods of freljord? Why Diana is afraid of Viego and Thresh when she is a god? how did Pantheon be under the ruined king when he is an aspect of war? And where are the other aspects? where was Jarvan doing when his city has fallen? And noxsus too did swain just do nothing? Now with Viego not being there, where is Thresh? What happened to the black mist? What will happen to the interactions in the game? And of course you bring the black rose in the interactions? where are they sipping tea? I am so disappointed on how everything just went on, just hoping they will write an explanation to everything now and the rest of the missed lore?
Slept after watching this, was furious throughout the night and woke up still furious they forgot about Yorick Mori. What a fucking joke

Eh. This entire event has done something I didn't think possible - it's dampened my enthusiasm for Arcane. I don't EXPECT Arcane to be as disappointing as this (or disappointing at all), but I think now that if a character is missing from Arcane for no particular reason (say, Camille) or included for no particular reason (say, the Crownguards passing through or maybe we see a young Darius and Draven in a Noxian Legion in a cameo) I might find myself actually wondering if that was a decision made from a Business perspective (ie: Not a lot of skins sold, don't give her a spotlight; they sell the most skins, give them a spotlight) rather than a creative one.

This Event was WAY too reliant on skins. Lore team NEEDED to somehow squeeze all of these unrelated champions somehow, which didn't leave room for actually important ones.
Arcane is a seperate project that's being done completely outside of League of Legends (the game) itself, so I really hope the writers will have creative freedom on this one. Now that skins are out of the picture, why would they create something bad when we know these people are capable of creating amazing stories and cinematics?

I have been watching you for over 4 years, Necrit, and I really enjoy your content. This is the first time that I comment as well, so far I just enjoyed your content. I mean no hate, but you know that this whole event, lore wise, is very dissapointing and superficial. If you do not address this trash lore event and complain to riot (as you are a big voice in lore community) you lose my respect and loyalty as a watcher. This should mean nothing career wise, but this is about principles and what you stand for. I'm out, think about future events, with this superficial approach, think about morde, about the void, the watchers, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna keep saying "this is not bad", because I have not followed this lore because "it is not bad", I followed it beacuse it was an amazing world build by talented people. It is a shame that THE ruined king and shadow isles were treated so disrespectfully (lore wise).

The mist didn't exactly spawn from viego. Sure he caused it and has control over it, but the mist doesn't truly come from him, not all of it at least. Plus he was merely sealed away, so that could be another reason why the mist didn't really just vanished
Ok, I'm just gonna drop my opinion here. To me, the ruination event wasnt an issue because of how they handled a lot of the champion, but it was because they made the skins canon. Had the skins been an "what if" situation like blackfrost is, they could have focused on the champions that are actually tied to the ruination like hecarim, Kallista, karthus maokai and yorick, instead of trying to fit these other champions intot he story and failing miserably
