    I just got done 3RZ swapping My 86 Toyota 4Runner and couldn't figure out why it wasn't starting this lets it fire right up you the man. Now to figure out how to get rid of the annoying key buzzer 🤦🏼

    Awesome! Just did this on my 86 22re 4Runner. So far works perfect every time! And the beauty of this is that you don’t have to hack up your oem harness wiring it directly to the battery.

    This is EXACTLY what my 87 toyota vanwagon is doing. So glad i found this video. Found a couple others but the symptoms you had are what made me realize this is probably it! I think my starter might be on its last leg too but still.
    Only difference is mine will start every tenth time i try it. 😂

    I have owned a 1988 Toyota pick up single cab 22 RE four-speed automatic about it when I was 54 years old recently turned 70 years old would you believe I’ve been putting up with this problem for this entire time. I love this old truck but that starter problem is a pain in the butt specially when I’m trying to leave taco Bueno are the gas station or Walmart anyway I can’t wait to get this fixed thank you so very much oh by the way my little truck is the best thing that’s ever happened to me Besides my wife and she gets a little cranky to

    Thank You very much for the video. I watched another video that used a Ford solenoid and I spent the 20 dollars and it did not work still clicked. Watched Your video and tried this method and it worked great no more clicking. Got My relay and wiring plug at Autozone for under 20 bucks. It is the Novita RL44 relay and the Novita RS40 ready install socket. Just strip the wires and crimp or solder the ends and all is good in the world of the old Toyota Pickup. Thank You again I had been dealing with this problem for about a year.

    Thanks for putting this together, I was getting sick of having to start by truck with a jumper wire between the starter and battery. Fires right up now with the new relay

    My 1981 pickup had a similar problem but a different fix. There's no relay that I can find.
    I unplugged and cleaned the electrical connector that connects the key switch to the wire harness located about 12 inches from the key switch just as the wire goes under the dash.
    No more problem, so far.

    Hi there! I skipped around a little, so maybe I missed it, but what engine did your '89 4Runner come with to begin with? (Nice 3.4 swap, btw!)
    I have a 1990 3VZE with a the same intermittent 1-click, no start and there isn't nearly as much info out there on 3.0s as there are 22REs. I'm really hoping your details will apply to my Pickup as well!

    Where does the red wire go to?

    • @the_7th
      @the_7th 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering the same thing. I don't think the red wire is used. I just left it alone. I just ordered this same relay set and just got done installing it the way he did in this video.

    • @67JC81

      @@the_7th so did it work without the red wire ?

    • @the_7th
      @the_7th 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@67JC81 yes, my 1986 Toyota pickup starts without the red wire being wired. The "clicking" is gone. Some one in the comments did say that the original Toyota relay also affects the cold start injector. The weather is getting cooler in the evening where I am at and I noticed that it takes a few tries to have the pickup start up and running. I may have a separate issue where the brown and green coolant temperature sensors might be bad. But for now, I'm leaving the red wire alone.

    Nothing wrong with the starter relay. However, it was *wired wrong at the factory*. Real fix is rewiring it, for a few bucks, like RM Garage did here:
