  • In this episode of Conversations with Coach, Bob Stoops answers questions from readers, fans and even a certain Sellout Crowd colleague. Among the revelations:
    * Why the last scheduled Bedlam game reminds him of another lost rivalry and which current rivalry gives him hope for the OU-OSU future.
    * What about his OU coaching career inspired him to confide to a friend: “I think I’ve ruined my life.”
    * What it’s like being known as the guy who punted twice to Tyreek Hill and this: “I’m going to give myself a little defense here.”
    * How the upcoming move to the SEC is already changing OU.
    * What makes Youngstown a breeding ground for football coaches.
    * What he ranks as the greatest win of his coaching career.
    * The risks of attempting to sere as your own orthopedist.
    * Why he made Oklahoma home.
    * His greatest memory as a player. “You can look it up.”

The fake punt at Alabama!! That was the first play I thought of as well. We were there at that game on about the 3-4th row. The momentum switch in the game was tangible. I realized that “momentum,” live, is a living entity. lol.

I really enjoy hearing the rest of the story.
Many questions asked that I’ve often wondered about myself.
I really enjoyed the question about what made Oklahoma Coach Stoops home.
I share much of the same sentiment.
It’s the people here in Oklahoma.
I moved here the same year coach Stoops took over.
    July of 99.
I didn’t have any expectations of what it would be like here. Just viewed it mostly as a stop in our family’s journey.
One thing I quickly learned. Oklahomans are not big fans of Texans.
I was born and raised in Texas but had lived in Alabama for three years prior. So I left it at that.
By the time many of my new friends here in Oklahoma knew anything about me being from Texas originally I had already won them over and they lent me some slack.
Most of my Oklahoma friends found out I was from Texas when old friends and family came to visit.
Oh the crap those people would come up here and stir with my friends. Especially on the few occasions Texas won the RRR.
I would have a house and often a yard full if OU friends over feuding with my Texas family.
I’d finally hear enough out of their loud mouths and quietly tell one of my Sooner friends to ask one of them so called Longhorn fans who the head coach of the Longhorns was.
Then ask them who the quarterback was.
I knew one detail about growing up in Texas. It’s all about the Dallas Cowboys and the only time they watched college football was maybe the RRR and only if Texas was leading.
My Sooner friends would about die of laughter when those “Longhorn” fans couldn’t answer either question.
    That would shut them up.
I think my Sooner friends felt some sort of sorrow because of that little unknown detail.
I believe that helped to keep me around here.

The story about Coach Stoops breaking his finger and fixing it himself 🍻. My dad always told me that Bob Stoops was a really really tough player. Apple didn't fall far from the tree... Drake Stoops is one tough Badass. Pound for pound Drake is one of the toughest little players I've seen. He does some dirty work catching passes in traffic and he's always fearless

I really think that stoops would make a good color commentator during games. I’d like to see him try it out during a game on fox or something

Coach Stoops I have to correct ya . Alabama (fake punt game) was actually 2003 and we won 20-13. I was in high School at the time. My first game was Oklahoma vs Alabama the year before in 2002. It was also a classic matchup with Ronaldo Works jumping over Alabama defenders and Eric B had the huge scoop and scrore. Good times in my life 👊😎 and I love watching this podcast. Every video is great 👍🏻
