    From what I have heard, the rest between the rounds was not that much longer as reported. But, Angelo Dundee did admit that he did give illegal smelling salts to Ali. really Ali should have been dsqualified. I think of all the the boxers he gave praise for, Cooper was the one he gave the most. Even after his second victory over Cooper, he is interviewed and states that Cooper might have won the 3 rounds of the first 5. Also, against Bugner, it was not a split decison, but just a referees decision by Harry Gibbs I believe.When Cooper was on the British show, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, Ali spoke from the USA in honor of him. ough As an American, when I did see the match, I felt that Cooper won 8 of the 15 rounds, though Bugner did win that last round, and taht probably was what cost COoper the title. Too bad he did not have a rematch, but that Was Coopers's choice. The one boxer I wish he had fought was George Chuvalo. An interesting match that would have been.

    Let's get a few things straight: Cooper only lost four times on cuts out of fourteen defeats; his win in the first go with Folley was questionable and Zora could be an in and out fighter who thought he'd take a points decision; totally different tale second time when Folley made very sure that he wasn't going to be jobbed by the ref.
    After the disgraceful stripping of Ali eight men were picked to contest the WBA elimination tournament while Frazier, who refused to enter the tourney, fought Buster the Blimp for what I regarded as a nonsense title. Of the ten men Cooper fought only two, Mildenberger and Patterson, victorious over the former, but only on disq. and outclassed and flattened by Floyd. Coddled by Wicks he avoided Quarry, Terrell, Spencer, Bonavena and Martin all of whom would have dispatched him; he did try to fight Ellis but was stopped from doing so by the BBB of C, Frazier would have been another disaster.
    Scared to put up his Commonwealth belt against Chuvalo.
    Knocked down a young and cocky Ali, but Sonny Banks had already done that, and then whinged for the rest of his days because Bugner beat him.
    The only thing I'd give him credit for is that he admitted Wicks was correct in not letting Sonny near him.
    A mediocre pugilist with an inflated sense of his importance.

    • @billt1954
      @billt1954 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      As a boxing fan I can’t argue with any of the facts that you present. He may well have been “mediocre” on the world scene but he was a good domestic fighter who captured our attention and won the hearts of British fans. At the end of the day, there are ‘levels’ to boxing as there are with anything else. I must admit that far too much was made of the Ali knockdown though and he was lucky to receive such adoration from the public, especially when you consider how much stick they gave to Bugner who fought in much higher company.

    • @rickallen8158
      @rickallen8158 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      After the "disgraceful stripping" of ali? At that point in time he was a "convicted felon", the boxing bodies were right to strip him, they didn't want a convicted felon as a "role model" for children to look up to, this is why there was so much distain for Sonny Liston and the boxing public wanted to see him defeated; there are laws in this country whether you agree with them or not, and if someone breaks them, there are consequences to be paid!,,,
