the fine balance between range/speed and offroad capability is what made me fall in love with it. whenever I have to haul lots of cargo across an entire map or region, the 4964 is at the top of my list because I know it can do it, without refueling, regardless of the terrain
That’s a really great description of this truck. It has great balance of what makes a good truck, just all around dependable. That’s why I think it’s a great candidate to be a workhorse. I need to break this thing out more on phase 8
I drag the White (crane and low saddle) with me on my first multi-truck roll out, and park it close to a major cross roads. The White can haul long nosed semi with a crane, so its perfect for retrieving fuel semis and helping trucks that don't have a crane.
One of my favorite trucks, for looks and capability. It unlocks still quite early in game and I just love driving it, the handling, the looks, the sound.. Used the White Western Star to unlock the Imandra garage, it's so easy to climb out of the ice with this truck compared with other higher tier trucks!
The best truck I have. And I have like 14-15 of them. This truck got me from level 5 to level 30 almost entirely on it’s own. Only on super heavy and overaized cargos I used Pacific P16. Also a slow one but it just keeps on going .... I like to take it slow but steady. The best method I use for White Western is loading multiple pieces of cargo on my sideboard add-on with a small crane. It gives it enough weight and traction to pretty much never stop. Only today I’ve don’e Michigan’s Super Order by Husky Forwarding with three of my buddies and all four of us were using White Westerns. All stages were done in a single haul and it was the easiest 32k we’ve ever earned.
Its really a workhorse! I'm like you, I like to take my time. Slow and steady wins the race, plus its relaxing to take in the visuals. This truck is super dependable. I believe its one of the most balanced vehicles in the game.
@@NProvince I completely agree with you, I kinda take this game as mechanized Red Dead 2. Just takinh in the environment and slow drive, put some music on, go first person and enjoy the game. And this truck just refuses to give up. By the way I love your work and editing is on point, I see a lot ahead of you 😊😊
Still one of my favs.. with the two starters, GMC 9500 and Fleetstar.. Nostalgia maybe? Not only I think. Call them my three Musketeers. And now I have the Step 310 as the fourth :) .. Always ready to serve and help. And they are totally reusable in the last seasons. I'm happy with that.
Another great thing about this truck is the lack of overhangs give it great approach/departure angles even at the slight increase in high siding risk but in my experience it's not a very common issue.
Compared with Fleetstar, another con for 4964, is it's not 3 piece combo capable. At least not with side board trailer. But a pro is it has very short frame behind rear axle, which makes it a very good semi trailer tractor. And with long frame between middle axle and front axle, it's a good choice for crane + saddle combo.
The WWS has one big trick up it's sleeve that I'm not sure other trucks can do, since they added the medium log carrier add on, the WWS is the only truck I've found that can run the med log carrier AND a log trailer so can do 2 loads of med logs in one run without dragging a trailer along with the winch. Though if you thought long logs bogged down that gutless engine, double mediums take that to 11 haha. Also the WWS gets rather tippy with medium logs in the med log carrier.
I believe there are some others that can do that exact thing as well, but there’s not many than can. Oh ya the engine power isn’t the greatest with really heavy loads, that’s where it struggles a lot. Having those medium logs on top does make things sway quite a bit as well. It’s really hard to find a vehicle that can handle those medium logs and not feel real tippy
Love this truck as a fuel hauler. Occasionally use it for a crane as well. I've noticed it perform better for me on its own than bigger early game trucks like the Pacific P12, which seems to struggle when tasked with weight. Not the best truck, but won't let you down either.
I love this truck, it's my Jack of all trades when I need something alittle bigger then the fleetstar. I do agree tho it struggles with the heavier loads which i expected, it's better as a cargo hauler then a full trailer hauler. Im biased to the western white star making it one of my favorites, the Happy Toys truck in Maximum Overdrive, is a White Star.
Was able to get through the majority of Michigan with it with the upgrades. Crawled right through the bogs with locked diffs and the service body attachment.
The only time I had to winch it is when it flipped (2 times in 30 hours) and when it got wedged between two rocks( in rift) trying to rescue tatarin.(And ofc during unlock, had to use Tatra 813 and WS twinsteer, god that was a nightmare!)
It was a hard mission pulling that out. I did it with the Fleetstar. Theres actually a shortcut you can take up the hill to avoid the winding pass between those rocks and such. Not a real help after the fact, but perhaps I should show this sometime
@@NProvince Tried with the fleetstar, wouldn't budge, I still use both the trucks 32 hrs in, wws feels underpowered, but never gets stuck in deep mud (so far!!). Yeetstar is very tippy and has wheelspin but does well in low.
My main truck I used until I had to pull concrete slabs out of the rock quarry for the first time and it would not do it, forced me to upgrade to Voron AE. But now he is a modded version of it bigger engine bigger tires.
Did you have the largest engine in the Un moded version? I’ve been able to pull pretty heavy loads with it. If you were still in Michigan then you probably didn’t have the big engine
Went back to see what you thought about the White Western, my first workhorse and I still try to use it in later American maps as support, very nice video, miss the face cam "roll the tape" intro though haha
It definitely is very useful in a lot of maps and stays relevant more than some US trucks for sure. All around balanced vehicle. Hahaha the intro! Man people either liked it or hated it.
the beginner trucks should be upgradable within the 2 first maps, because usually no one will ever use this trucks again, after jumping to the other maps. i play with gmc and the fleetstar at the beginning and go to the next map to get the wws ad sell the fleetstar. imho the gmc, which is classified as highway truck , is the better truck , then both of the others but wws wins over fleetstar with its bigger fuel capacity. to be able to use them i use a unlock upgrade mod and i suggest to use this to have at least fun in this early game trucks, before jumping to the inevitable , to the russian op trucks.
Indeed the GMC is far better at heavy loads and actually has more ground frame clearance, even without the AWD the GMC is more then capable of doing all of MI/AK.
Great review man you yold me everything i wantyto know and more i just found this teuck and needed to weight options of sell or keep. Thanks again I'll definitely subscribe im new to the game and its contagious fun 💪👍
After scouting for most of the upgrades in the starting maps, I finally got this bad boy up to snuff for what I needed, and immediately I was blown away by its stability! I think a large contributor is how the front cab seems to move independently of the rear chassis. I remember going down routs that scared me in the Fleetstar, and feeling planted on the trail with the 4964. Its INSANE! Even went up what felt like a impossible hill with the 4964 and watching it eat up the challenge! This was with the stock engine. Anyway, Ive sold my fleetstar and plan to buy another truck once ive unlocked them! Love the Fleetstar, but ADORE the 4964! I think im level 8 now?
Tayga, yes. Royal.... eh, maaaaybe, hard to say. I own both trucks (I actually own every truck in the game), if power is your main deciding factor then yes the Royal takes it. But overall package the White Western has enough power, it's also a lot more stable then the Royal, and it has diff-lock where the Royal does not. Royal definitely has speed and power advantage, and bigger tires I think. But is that enough to topple the White Western? That's pretty iffy. I've said it before and I think I'll stick by it, the White Western is going to be your best truck in game until you hit Taymir and get the Tayga. The Royal definitely has advantages over the White Western Star, but as far as total package goes the Royal just doesn't offer enough for me to put in the #1 spot.

Thanks for the informative videos. I am confused about this truck. I'm on my second hard mode game (first one was broken by the last update - grrr!) The first one I sold this truck but then saw everyone using and raving about it. Felt bad I sold it. Now on my second one I've recovered up and upgraded it. Have the middle engine and all the other upgrades. I have to say the only advantage I see is the stability. It is very weak. It really struggles to pull the loads I have. Many are double loads. I'd have to call it a wimp. My fleetstar on the other hand will crank these loads up the hill and not complain. It will flip over on the other side once at the top, so there is that. lol. Then, I went to the GMC and that dude is powerful. However, the last upgrade I need is in Russia and I'm still in Michigan. Just wanted to share some thoughts.
So Duane the thing that makes the Western Star great is its overal balanced in performance in so many ways and it s versatile. I think the max engine is needed for you and also do you have diff lock? When you say double loads, do you mean like 10 pieces of cargo? Lastly the Western Star weighs quite a bit more than the Fleetstar so it doesnt have the power to weight overhead that the fleetstar has by being lighter. I think when you have it completely upgraded, you'll be fine. However its never going to be the most powerful puller
@@NProvince By double loads I mean 2 slots on the bed and 2 on a trailer. It just seems it takes a bit for the engine to get going and it struggles. I can see the power to weight thing. The stability is nice though. Not sure what to do. What do you think is a good replacement to the Fleetstar? I need the bed, crane and trailer. I'm in Michigan and am trying not to skip ahead too far and bring a vehicle back.
@@reallybadgamer Have you tried using low saddle, crane setup. I have a review on trailers and I think this will help. Also my mudrunnin tips video explains this too. I think with a low saddle and larger engine you will see better results. A replacement for the WWS. I'd say The HX520, CAT CT680 & 681. After that Russian trucks are just gonna make the game easy to be honest. Lemme know if you need any more guidance
Yes it does, however its frame is very nice for low saddle/ small crane which I think for a lot of trucks is better. Long story, but I explained pros & cons on my trailer review. WWS is a workhorse though :)
Nathan, I have been watching your truck review videos, thanks! Do you have favorite trucks you would suggest for early game hardcore? I am just now getting started in Alaska and have about $110,000 cash on hand. Been using the fleetstar and western star.
So as you probably know, hardmode is a different kind of beast as you already know. Personally I would use the Western Star 4964 for as long as you can. That should be your workhorse in Alaska. I bought the P12 for a support/ logging truck and it was super helpful, but I also had 200k+ when I got to Alaska. For Taymyr your gonna find the Tayga of course and then there’s some great ones that will replace the 4964 unless you would like to continue using it. That’s fine too! Check out my hardmode tips video. There are some tips on saving money and fuel which has helped me so far. I’m currently in Wisconsin and I haven’t bought any fuel at all which is a huge help. I hope that long winded response helped :)
Nathan, ya that does help. Happy to have the info! I didn’t feel like I wasted all that much money on anything in Michigan but I knew I was a bit below the typical income level like where you were when you got to Alaska. Really don’t see why we can’t deploy trailers to new regions, that would ease the strain on the bank account.
Awesome! Really glad I could help. If you ever catch my streams and have questions about this, I can stop what im doing and elaborate on any of this stuff. Ya that would be nice. Hardmode is tricky in that way for sure
Love high gear, I practically live in high gear on this game. However it’s not very fun when you don’t have enough power in areas or with certain trucks with certain loads
Pending your ability to keep a truck on its wheels (which will be a lot harder with logs) I’d say the White Western is good, but for medium logs IF you wanna be safe use the CAT 745C.
I take offence to calling it the Fleetstar big brother. jk lol But yea I'd just never compare the White Western to the Fleetstar personally, to be honest I hate the Fleetstar. To light at the front and to be frank drives like crap, and I don't even use it for trailers, I use it with a flatbed cargo deck on it (yes I prefer the flatbed over the sideboard). The newer GMC Brigadier is also somewhat light at the front, but I find it pretty manageable with a flatbed, just avoid using it for trailers and I think it's a pretty decent truck. I take it out and even use it for odd jobs. But the Fleetstar, that thing pretty much never leaves my garage. The Fleetstar I find is just awful no matter what I try to use it for. I kinda view the White Western more as Michigan's Tayga. Which is funny as between the Tayga or a Voron-D, I'd take the Voron-D any day. But the WWS and Tayga are both free, both very dependable trucks for their region, both the best free trucks of their region (correct me ifI'm wrong, but you need to buy the Voron's don't you?), etc. When I drive the White Western, I am not remotely entertaining the thought of "huh, this feels like a bigger Fleetstar" lol But hey maybe you've had a more favourable experience with the Fleetstar and that's cool. I have bias because like I said, I really hated that truck.
My problem with WWS is that it's very unpleasant to drive. Engine sound is trash, suspension doesn't work as beautifully as Fleetstar's. Frame does bend Paystar style, but it's still not enough to compensate WWS's slugishness and that feel like it's about to break apart. I tried to use it as a cranemobile and as a log carrier, but it's just very unpleasant to drive. Not my cup of tea

It's the best sounding truck in my opinion. Especially with a subwoofer, it rumbles the entire house
Great sounding truck indeed!
It will get to a crawl, but it never stops.
Question for you all, does this truck have the "holy trinity"? (Flatbed, small crane, and trailer hook)
Who doesnt like high gear? Its like not liking air
Love high gear, I practically live in high gear on this game. However it’s not very fun when you don’t have enough power in areas or with certain trucks with certain loads
The main disadvantage of this truck is the lack of bed+crane+trailer combo, despite longer frame than Fleetstar.
I dont see that as a disadvantage, Crane/Sideboard Semi has way more advantages than hitch trailers
The log hauling parts was that in Alaska?
That was Alaska on those logging portions. It did rather well :)
hi, i’m level 19 and just started white valley alaska , what truck to do recommend for logging long logs and medium logs?
Pending your ability to keep a truck on its wheels (which will be a lot harder with logs) I’d say the White Western is good, but for medium logs IF you wanna be safe use the CAT 745C.
It's stable until you use the medium log frame add-on with it.
Ya medium logs definitely gives it that sway
wouldnt another CON would be its the most difficult truck to rescue?
This is a good point. Ya it could be another con as well. It is quite hard to pull it up out of that position
Just wait for some of the dlc trucks you have to recover.
im trying to get it with the kodiak i keep running out of gas lol
I would add support trucks down there for this purpose
I take offence to calling it the Fleetstar big brother. jk lol
But yea I'd just never compare the White Western to the Fleetstar personally, to be honest I hate the Fleetstar.
When I drive the White Western, I am not remotely entertaining the thought of "huh, this feels like a bigger Fleetstar" lol
But hey maybe you've had a more favourable experience with the Fleetstar and that's cool. I have bias because like I said, I really hated that truck.
This truck is like a strong fat guy. It's big, heavy and strong, but the Power-to-Weight ratio is comparable to low endurance.
I agree :)
I respect that. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea for sure
"The awd is capable."
Yea sir, the AWD is capable then becomes switchable with the upgrades :)
@@NProvince thats bad grammar.
My grammar was bad? I said it was capable, then becoming switchable with the upgrade. Sorry, I’m not perfect with grammar.
The WWS ist my workhorse.
Most definitely feel its a workhorse as well!
