I was filling my motorcycle the other day and a woman came up to me asking me how to fill up her car, her first car she bought. She said they had diesel, 87, 89, and 93 and didn't know what the equivalent was of hers. I said it is usually on the gas cap or gas cap door. She brought me over and, with the hood open, she showed me her "gas cap" said 5w-20. Only in Flori-duh!

Lady, not sure, start with the owner's manual. Oh yeah, that requires reading and comprehension.

So in Canada it is a bad idea to smoke while fueling the car? Great to know that. Its soo different to where I live.......

But you have to pump the gas yourself in Canada. Unlike where I do live, where we use electric pumps to do so.

The whole car is an electrical device. If anything is going to ignite the fumes it will be the ignition coil. Mobile/Cell phones do not start fires in gas stations.

The old school cell phone with the long antenna that you had to pull out was the concern as it may have a small electric spark. Today's phones are internal antenna and cause no spark, but they kept the same safety concern.

@@hamblinhomestead4046 I remember watching the video that started the fear of phones at gas stations. It was in the late 90's a young lady had gotten out of her car whilst talking on her mobile. The second she earthed herself to the car, by touching it to open the gas tank, she ignited the fumes all around her. The original speculation was it must have been the phone she had in her hand. But mobile phone companies were terrified of the potential litigation that they tried to reproduce the accident and couldn't. They then discovered that the jumper she was wearing was acrylic, which is an excellent source of static electricity. So after re-studying the crappy video they had you can see a small flash/spark the second she touches her car, just before boom!

@@andym2612 Getting back in the car is what caused the static.

@@BoondockMercantile You can generate static electricity whilst sitting in a car, jump out of the the car and touch something metal.

@@andym2612 Agreed. But most of these gas station ESD-fires are caused by the people getting in and out. That's why some gas stations removed the lever lock on their pump nozzles.

I was at a pump that would dispense regular gas or diesel (depending on your vehicle)...older man pulls up while I am filling my car...asks if I can move up so he can use the other hose...I asked if his car took diesel...he said no...then you have to wait anyway
