Holy cow, you finally have a new tone. I’ve been convinced you have one sound and all the gear is wasted if you tune it to the same sound. This finally sounds different. Kudos.
I love fuzz. It's my go to dirt but you don't need to go all out fuzz. Germanium fuzz faces that do the clean up thing with the vol knob have a huge amount of scope, break-up, drive, and the bell like clean sound is sublime. My pedal is a Ramble FX Twinbender - Two Tonebender circuits, MK 1.5 and 2. Don't try playing an outdoor gig in hot weather though as the transistors won't work. Oldtimers wouldn't do that but it happened to me once.
Merry Christmas JC! Fuzz is Gods Gift to Guitar players! I run my EJ Fuzz ( .0033 in parallel w/input resistor) 0into a Mojotone Rook Royale, n its UN blvble........ALL my latest recordings are done w/this setup into TC HOF2 Halo TC SCF... n of course ONE awsm amplifier also a gift from God.. :) n a $300 Gold label 50s vibe strat..
Have you noticed or perceived the tone, the sustain, the resonance and the harmonics that this stool has that appear in all your videos? I have the same one from that Swedish furniture chain. I bought it, I imagine for the same reason that you bought it, but it wasn't what I expected. Now it's a bench for assistance, hahaha, but the bottom part of the aluminum circle sounds. If you give it a sharp knock, it has an unmatched tone.
Merry Christmas, John! Would love you to make a video describing how you set up your guitars, what kinda action you like, and just how you generally look at/deal with the setup process. If this has already been covered - please point me to it.
I regularly gig a benson germanium fuzz. It does the glassy fuzz face clean up thing quite well so that I can cop a range of tones from clean to dirty without having to switch pedals. It works surprisingly well in an indie rock setting, but obviously excels in more "vintage" applications also.
I just impulse-bought a JHS Cheeseball...not a critical sound for me either, but man does it sound good in the right situation. Fwiw, the footage of your gig was epic. I'd tune in for more vids of just lots of that. Merry Christmas, and God save the West.
Temperature matters more with Germanium transistors. I've enjoyed the Fulltone '70 and '69. Love lots, and acquired more during pandemic. Octave fuzzes rock. Atreides though, that's the bomb. Cheers, D
Gotta love the various MUFF variants, the Keeley Octa Psi being an amazing example. The way I most prefer using it is starving the circuit for volume, the way it distorts brings out boatloads of harmonic content, if you used a volume pedal as well and just bring it right on down then elongate the sound through delays you get something really beautiful and not at all like a jar full of angry wasps, but creamy, silky sustain.
Merry Christmas. Biggest Tip for using Fuzz: Play less notes 😆. Focus on groove and playing something that makes a statement. Fuzz Pedal Suggestion: DOD Carcosa.
If you want to get into fuzz, and have it be versatile enough to do everything from crystal clean to mid gain to full fat go get a Mythos Golden Fleece.
Cool video mate. I recently found my new favourite in the Keeley Octa Psi. For the fuzz side it muffy and big enough but cuts through a mix as that’s always been a gripe I’ve had with fuzz. Then the octave side is the cherry on top
I use a Fulltone Fuzz Bender that I use in some of the more 60s /70s numbers. That particular pedal cleans up with the volume so does some pretty cool drive tones. I never find I need the fuzz anywhere near full for a big sound. In fact, backing off the fuzz gives way more headroom on a lot of fuzz circuits.
I’ve gone through phases with fuzz. Sometimes I love them other times I hate them. What I have learned is that eq is really important and single coils have more options of fuzzes that sound good. I like Fuzz faces and mk1.5 tonebenders on strats especially germanium due to the clean up on the volume pot. I have an amazing expresso fx fuzz face clone (UK builder using NOS parts) which sounds great but really heavy in the bass, which I need to eq out and you need to add some top to make it cut in a mix. With humbuckers it sounds too much but with the volume guitar knob down it becomes a lovely warm distortion but again eq is important. So I always have something like an eq pedal after the fuzz. For humbuckers I prefer tone bender mk2s but clones of those are bloody expensive. To be honest if I want a fuzz type tone now I tend to use the Hudson Broadcast.
I have the Jackson audio modular fuzz and it’s such a great pedal! Has 6 different interchangeable chip modules to get different fuzzes. I love the modern fuzz and the mark page 2. I also have the way huge sub atomic fuzz but that one is super unruly. Can get cool tones but the Jackson is more useable for gigs.
I have a request for a video topic: How do you get a smooth tone? I'm a relative beginner on guitar (30 year bass player) and bought a ToneX One, as well as several amp sim plugins, but my tone is always hairy/shaggy/ragged, which can be cool, don't get me wrong, I remember seeing Marc Ford live in 2005 and feeling like there was shrapnel flying from his amp with every note, but I'm also very into that super smooth sound that you seem to get, along with all the Quad Cortex players, and I'm curious if you can explain how that is accomplished. Thanks.
Merry Christmas! We're hosting Christmas for our family at our church cause our house is renovation mess. And I'm in charge of the turkey So I get a few hours here to write and play the guitar way too loud lol. Have a good one to anyone out there with a chance to read this!
Merry Chrimbo John. Howabout you persuade the band to play Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones or Sunshine of your love by Cream or play some Hendrix in the middle of Superstition. Then you will have to gig a fuzz. It's another tone to your sound
The only fuzz I would ever consider is the sixty's solar fuss sought after pedals because they are more smother and not so angry im not into them other wise it's always be overdrive for me
Hi John, I'm kinda like you, not really acquired the taste for fuzz pedals, but you opened my eyes to the JHS Crimson. Its pretty good to my ears. I've also experimented with some of the fuzzes in the HX One and the Fender Tonemaster Pro. A company that makes some really great pedals but doesn't get much press here is Poison Noises. Their line is very creative and all sound great. Hope you and your family had a great Xmas. Cheers
Also Christmas day here in Kentucky.... Merry Christmas to you. I prefer people who work when they want. I do the same. Post your video when you see fit. Internet age is 24/7/365. Brits sometimes have a problem embracing liberty or freedom... so much adherence to history and rules or laws. We are embarking a remarkable new age. You know what I am talking about... I hope the brits get on-board. Get a real government... one that actually works for the people. We did you this favor 300 years ago and we are doing it again. Wake up brits
I've tried to convert him. To be fair, I've long not been a particular fan of fuzz and the ones I've had have just generally sat unused. But getting a bc183 fuzz face (same transistor as in the EJ fuzz) changed that and I really love that pedal and use it lots
Holy cow, you finally have a new tone. I’ve been convinced you have one sound and all the gear is wasted if you tune it to the same sound. This finally sounds different. Kudos.
JNC - “ if you’re on the toilet”
Me on the toilet - “O_O”
Merry Christmas JNC! Hope you and the family have a great day!
Goes from never gigging a fuzz pedals to one of the most sought-after and expensive fuzzes out there. It's all downhill from here 😅
Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas, thanks for all your awesome videos.
Merry Christmas John and family. 🎄
Dunlop mini Hendrix. Huge wall of syrup .
Eric Johnson runs his germanium fuzz at 23 degrees.
I have the Band of Gypsies one. You mean the Eric Johnson sound is turn Fuzz up only 20%?
23° *
Merry Christmas JC and gang. Keep up the good work in 2025. Love the channel.
Merry Xmas, John and family!
A few of my favorite fuzzes are the Psionic Audio 3.14 and the Earthquaker Hizumitas.

Jam Eureka. Was never a huge fuzz fan until I played one, it was a game changer for me. Works well at lower gain settings too.

I like the Dreadbox Disorder. It is a weird one, essentially a fuzz pedal with a resonant filter, so it can filter sweep like a synth.
Merry Christmas John!!

Your band sounds incredibly tight man, you guys should put out a record.

I really enjoyed the Fender Pelt Fuzz. Didn’t think I’d like it but found it to be very versatile with a wide range of sounds in it!
Merry Christmas...best Input from your Channel..Love it.. Output?😅

Now what I want to see is John taking that one apart! Take some nice gut photos too!!!
Cornish pedals are gooped to hell and back.
Merry Christmas. Besides a medium gain silicon Fuzz Face that can clean up, Boss FZ-2 Hyperfuzz is really gnarly.
The Vemuram Shanks II is a great fuzz that will cut it live

With fuzz you have to be careful, just dial fuzz knob to max😄
Merry Chrimbo John. Howabout you persuade the band to play Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones or Sunshine of your love by Cream or play some Hendrix in the middle of Superstition. Then you will have to gig a fuzz. It's another tone to your sound
Macari’s sola sound tonebender mk ii. You need a Marshall to make a fuzz work.
TRy The Boss FZ-1W it is great does all the right tones and is not too coarse in the Vintage setting !!
The only fuzz I would ever consider is the sixty's solar fuss sought after pedals because they are more smother and not so angry im not into them other wise it's always be overdrive for me
On Fuzz, I know that the germaium fuzz is temperature sensitive, don't believe that temperuture on silicon fuzz (like big muff) is an issue.
Jeez, Cordy! 'Just can't shake that grip TH-cam has on you. It's the holidays - Spend some time with your family!
0:00 and all... that
EQD Hoof reaper is A Fantastic fuzz pedal!
If you want these gated fuzz tones for less, check out JHS cheese ball
Is that a euphemism for going down town on a gal? Oh and merry christmas
devi ever hyperion one of my favorite fuzz pedals

“Are pedal companies ripping us off?”
“Check out this 600 dollar fuzz pedal”
Sounds great! Hope you have a wonderful holiday ☺️
JHS is ripping you off, 100%
Fulltone 69 the red one sings like yours
stone age de Thermion
Although Jimi Hendrix did pretty good job using a fuzz on Johnny B Good.

Merry Christmas to everybody except John Mayer. The guy is a total chud. Leave him out of your videos and I’ll be much merrier. 😂😂
I don’t understand why you don’t embrace fuzz as you are such a fan of Eric Johnson.
I've tried to convert him. To be fair, I've long not been a particular fan of fuzz and the ones I've had have just generally sat unused.
