Foxton Friday Live - Lumpy Squash: How to simplify the Form with only Three Colours

  • Going to be painting this little squash on a 5 × 7 panel. IT’s a good opportunity to study simplification of light and shadow shapes (i.e., ignoring the little bobbles to start with) and then refining down to the smaller forms.
    The little bobbles are a microcosm of the large shape, with the same light and shadwo colours.
    Once the background is laid in, I’ll be mixing three colours:
    light
    half tone
    shadow
    And using those to paint the whole thing! (with a ltitle blending and some highlights etc of course).
    Let’s see how little we can paint to make the form live.

    Hi Paul Great Video Also, I am looking to rewatch the video where you put lots of texture in the background --even pressing something into the paint Can you direct me to the video please ?

    The top left corner of the squash is quite different in shape than the photo….otherwise great….

      Yes indeed. But that only matters if the goal is to perfectly recreate the photo. Which it isn't :) The bumps are all different too.
