I'm looking at building a thinline tele with P-90s from Warmoth parts, and your vid just convinced me to go for it. I bet it's rewarding to play a guitar you had so much involvement in putting together! Nice work dude.
Cool video man...I built a custom guitar myself out of parts from Warmoth as well and I was scared as hell drilling everything like you demonstrated here, but it all worked and it's the sweetest guitar in my collection....your wiring seemed pretty extensive...I loved that portion of my build since I'm an electronics tech anyway. Thanks for sharing.
Good job, dude. I think you achieved your goal of making it look pretty easy. And your playing was shredderific. Nice sweep picking -- and nice non-sweep picking, too.
Killer Warmoth Strat! Great custom wiring job too...

I found it easier to drill the pickguard holes before bolting the neck because there is an extension of the fretboard going over the pickguard. It's not easy to put the pickguard on afterwards if it already has the pickups in it.
15 ปีที่แล้ว
thanks, I think that one is the best of all my older recordings
15 ปีที่แล้ว
the push pull tone pot activates bridge and neck pickups (like a telecaster in the middle position), the black button is a killswitch (for stuttering effects etc.) and that other switch is to activate the bridge regardless of the volume/tone 5-way switch settings
15 ปีที่แล้ว
yes, for the string trees I had to drill holes myself, but all the diffucult or critical holes, like the neck screw holes, are already prepared.
Great vid. I'll be building a Telecaster using a Warmoth body. I aquired a tele neck some time ago and it's time to put it back to work! I like the fact that almost any configuration you can dream of is available through Warmoth.
Jesus christ, that's a sexy guitar dude. Yeah, i checked out warmoth a few month's ago, everything is pretty expensive, but as i can see everything has amazing quality. You're also a great player, I'm jealous, that guitar is just beautiful
12 ปีที่แล้ว
I polished the frets, set up the Truss Rod & set the intonation + string height at the saddles
Great looking guitar. You did a fabulous job. Sounds awesome too.
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@t0psecretshit thanks yes, the body comes without any pre-drilled holes for the strap locks and pickguard. But it does come with the neck pocket holes already drilled and the pickup cavities etc. The necks come with the holes for the neck screws and the selected tuners. The tremolo is a Gotoh EV510T-FE (there's also a link where you could get those, or at least used to get in the description)
guitarDouchebaggery You're welcome! I'm talking about the song at 6:00 though :D

jukpulfer oh I see, that one is called "really scary halloween song", I wrote it in 2008 :)

@96lolstar I bought mine from the "product showcase" part of the shop, so neck and body where already made when I ordered, so I don't know how long it usually takes Warmoth sells individual parts and not sets, so you can get pickups or order them from anywhere else
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@ArgentinianTraceur I think I did it like this: I put all the tuners into the holes, used a ruler on one the back side of the tuners (this only works when the tuners are flat on one side) and aligned them nicely, then I took a pencil and made a dot in each screw lug. Then I drilled the holes where the dots where.
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@BrazenHarbinger you can select a humbucker routing for the bridge position when you order the body this can also be done for the pickguard
@nolobede yes, I think "building" is sort of an umbrella term that includes everything: Carving wood, drilling holes, wiring electronics... anyways, I guess most people who watch my video searched for Warmoth and got to see what was expected.. I hope ;-)
11 ปีที่แล้ว +1
no worries, it sounds like you'll put together an awesome guitar :)

@OverratedReality various stuff: the black button is a killswitch the switch beside the black button bypasses volume, tone and pickup selector and switches to full on bridge pickup (this is useful to change between any volume/pickup setting and full on bridge PU quickly, e.g. clean and distorted on a single channel amp) push pull tone knob selects bride and neck pickup (like the middle position of a telecaster)
you can tell he cant wait to play it, look how fast hes working! lol jokes aside, warmoths are great. congrats on that one of a kind baby!
15 ปีที่แล้ว
@WinnipegLolz I think their LP parts are intended to be used for a bolt-on construction, but it should be possible to glue neck and body together too.
15 ปีที่แล้ว
yes, we need more of those clips! I hope your's will turn out nice
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@SpasmOfJoy yes, I also heard that the Fender Custom shop used Warmoth parts once
15 ปีที่แล้ว
this is just because it's gold logo (or like a gold mirror) and it's reflecting the white wall in some shots, so it's kind of gets the same color as the wood of the neck
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@BrickMovieProduction yes, it's for the little screws that hold the tuners in place
15 ปีที่แล้ว

@TheHellbentnm I think it was separate. If you e.g. buy a body with an easy access neck joint, you need to buy 2 normal and 2 shorter screws
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@doctorgone string trees are to get a sharper string angle at the nut (since the strat headstock isn't angled). There are certain locking tuners available that get shorter towards the high E, with those you wouldn't "need" string trees.
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@TheCharliePearce I have a MIJ fender tele and both feel great and are really solid guitars. In total the guitar was around 1400EUR (but this is with added 21% import fees, when importing it to europe). All the parts that I bought are from the "showcase" section of the online shop, so these where all already finished etc. Neck pocket is great. It worked instantly (but I don't know if it's always trouble free)
15 ปีที่แล้ว
nice! It's always great when the project is finished
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@Samickboom yes, I have a logo on it (the gold one, which can be ordered extra). When you order a neck you get a sticker with the black logo with it, you can decide if you put the logo on it or not
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@EvilRedGoose true, the reason behind the rosewood fretboard was that I already had 3 other maple fretboard-guitars, so I thought: for once, a guitar with the "normal" rosewood...
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@HavocBillz one is a killswitch (it mutes the guitar, so you can make a stuttering effect when pressing it fast), the other one activates the bridge pickup at full tone and volume (so on a overdriven one channel amp you can have a clean sound, e.g. neck pickup + low volume and then quickly switch between full on bridge and the clean setting)
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@MitchRulzWorld yes, they're supposed to lean towards that kind of sound minus the hum
Hey, I'm wondering if you could make a video with a clean sound of position 2 and 4 of this guitar. fantastic looking piece of kit!
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@Syntax0r thanks it's a Stratocaster body, flat top (but with forearm contour etc.)
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@wnvideo I needed to polish the frets with a very fine sandpaper (I used the fret polishing ones by Dunlop) nothing else was needed in my case, but maybe I just got lucky

it's in the warmoth webstore somewhere under accesories or something. It's a sticker that you could apply yourself, but a very strong sticker though.

@yngwiestrat2012 it's a fire burst, from the showcase part of the shop

@SRVisthebest I think I measured the screws and took the next smaller drill you could also use a thin drill to do some pre-drilling and then gradually use thicker drills until you can screw the screw in
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@DUDI0215 yes you can from what I've heard it's recommended to have one pot that has all the grounds wired to it, but I'm not sure if that really makes any actual difference but try to attach all grounds to the same pot (or almost all of them)
Very well done video! I'm in the process of putting my latest Warmoth order together for my third build (assembly) I'm not generally a fan of flashy wood and gold hardware, but that looks great!
15 ปีที่แล้ว
yes it is copper shielded. I'm not sure how much difference it makes since I have noiseless pickups in there. I just shielded it to play it save
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@caulinrocker yes, if you go through getting a floating bridge in tune, you deserve to use it ;-)
15 ปีที่แล้ว
you can get it at the two links at the bottom of the "more infos" text the gotoh works with the same bridge routing as the wilkinson
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@bonzzo15 you buy everything separately, it's not a set of parts but regarding the pickups: all those dimarzio, SD etc. will all fit, they all have a standard size
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@96lolstar what I meant was that you need to select everything by yourself, if you need a neck plate, then you buy one from the webstore and so on when ordering the wood parts, you could ALSO order the tuners, neck plate, pickups, bridge etc. but you don't have to, you can buy your pickups also from anywhere else when buying a body & a neck, then you'll only get a body and a neck
12 ปีที่แล้ว
oh I see, well, they offer all kinds of options for the tuner holes, e.g. I selected the "Schaller" option and I used Schaller Tuners, and it fit perfectly :)
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@GuitarzMyThing it's a Dimarzio Virtual Solo DP420 but now they have those Paul Gilbert "Injector" pickups, which should also be worth checking out

@CouchSpud40 Yes, except if you want a recessed routing, then the Wilkinson routing has a bigger routing than the EV510

@suaragitar the neck comes with a special kind of sticker, with a black decal on it (I bought a sticker with a gold decal extra) you can decide if you want to put the decal on or not
My favorite part is that it's a struggle to get the neck in and out of the joint w/ the body. One of THE most important and most overlooked aspects to good guitar tone is a tight neck joint. Kudos:)
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@bonzzo15 you can choose which pickup routings you want, single coil, humbucker etc. they have a routing option for all kinds of pickup types
I really enjoyed the video, really makes me want to save up so I can start putting away fro building my Warmoth dream bass!

@kalimoncho51 hi actually those are SS6100 frets on my guitar I just polished them with a very fine sandpaper (this is needed, otherwise they'd feel strange) they where already quite even, so there was no real leveling done
i bought the wolf gang neck for floyd rose and fast solos and stuff like that
12 ปีที่แล้ว
I don't remember which exact drills I used, but I used drills for wood, and I chose drill sizes that were slightly smaller than the screws
12 ปีที่แล้ว
hi, yes, it's an "assembly" I like the action high, it sounds better that way I had the amp set quite bright back then and there are no FX (no giant delays and reverbs)

@zelissen they send a black warmoth logo with the neck but got a gold warmoth logo yes, they are basically stickers, but very strong stickers
15 ปีที่แล้ว
I just put the tuners in and marked where I need to drill the wholes. Yes, that's some duct tape on the drill to get the approximate depth. It's not a big deal if you drill something a bit too deep
Very nice videos! I am considering to build one myself. Did the neck come with the Warmoth decal? Thanks for sharing
13 ปีที่แล้ว
@dodorinel360 you can order it with the option that the tremolo studs are already installed
14 ปีที่แล้ว

yes, but it says in the description of the logo that it's very sticky and very hard to remove once it's applied

@Sk8erbakerskater you can search for "Mattias IA Eklundh harmonics" and learn it from the master or the short version is: You slap the strings quickly with your left hands middle finger (you have to hit right where a natural harmonic is, e.g. 5. or 7. fret etc.)
15 ปีที่แล้ว
I bought the gold logo, it's like a sticker. So you make sure the headstock is really clean and then stick the logo on it.

@AerialAceProductions at that part I'm hammering in small holes, which should help the drill staying in place later on
I like it! I want to make a "parts-o-caster" but it will be a tele parts o caster. Swamp ash (non-chambered) with quilt maple top. Dimarzio true velvet (or twang king but they are similar...) pickups in neck and bridge with a minihumbucker in the middle.
14 ปีที่แล้ว
@DennChooch it wasn't really needed I just polished the frets with some "Dunlop fret polishing cloth" maybe I got lucky, or it's like this with most of the necks
i was doing this right now, after i created the neck, the body, and included most of the hardware, and the pickup (i only put one in my guitar) it came out to be about $1000, so i guess it really depends on what you put into it, another huge factor is the finish

@CouchSpud40 strange, I chose the Wilkinson routing and it aligned perfectly. Is there maybe anything set up in a weird way? Do the saddles have room to move closer to the right? Then you might put some shims in there to make the saddles stay in place to the right. Just some ideas.

@caulinrocker I know these, but thanks. The stability is alright on my guitar, it just takes a little more time to tune. So for now I'll enjoy the light trem action

that's true, a lot of improvements could be done. Only EMG seems to have that easy plug everything together system

awesome im so doing this after watching you, i checked out warmoth and they have everything. ive already got my custom body and neck picked out
Nice build. I personally never liked pic guards, at my volume levels it acts like a semi hollow body and feeds back something fierce.
@nomorejournos thanks, that's just a little improv with a Gypsy Jazz rhythm and some licks in between
love those strings
@yobhsiFehT thanks
those are Dimarzio Area 67 and a Dimarzio Virtual Solo in the bridge
Great job! I think I might mod my strat and paint it like that. The playing was ok but you should really use a thin gauge pick
@FrozenSatan maybe if I ever build another one
