Perhaps on a less windy day!! The Eley seem the best option, Not bad for a cheap rifle! A well looked after Anschutz 1416 accuracy is on another level believe me, Using Winchester sub's on a calm day would clover leaf the bull at that range!! Depending how good a shot UR!! Good video all the same welldone 🤔🇬🇧👍
I'll wager the mysterious missing 5th round from the 2nd group slid nicely dead center into one of the already made holes. I watched the end of the muzzle when you fired several rounds and listened carefully to the sound and I could tell no difference between those and that missing 5th round. Hard to believe a flyer would miss completely that entire target stand, unless it hit a bird on the way and I didn't see any feathers - as what happened to me once - lol Really enjoyed watching this video from beginning to end, not something I always do - usually too long or boring or both. Really good set-up, and enjoyed *hearing it* impact the target! Well done. Thumbs Up, Mate!
Hi Elliot - Liked the video. I also have the CZ 452 (Varmint) and in general, I have been using either Eley Subs or RWS Subs. They are more expensive than some of the other brands but are far, far better and accuracy is the key or why otherwise pull the trigger! I did however last weekend try some of the CCI subsonics (nice reusable 100 round clear container as well) and at 70 metres, they were more accurate than the RWS rounds I had been using beforehand. They are a marginally faster round so less holdover needed on distances up to 100 metres. Only downside (and I have experienced this with everything I have tried but excludes the Eleys/RWS) is on quite a few occasions, the spent round does not eject out of the chamber. There is a plus in that there is marked difference in price, I can get 500 CCI Subs for around £34 whereas the Eley's are £48 for the same amount - 42% more expensive!! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Frankie, the CCI's are certainly cheaper but I don't think there's much that can touch the Eley subs although CCI do come quite close. I've also had the extraction issue with the CCI rounds too. I guess it's best to use whatever you're confident with and stick to it rather than faff about swapping ammo!
FRANKIE HOWARD Yeah it's a SAK. Wouldn't really say you need much better to be honest. It's often used as a benchmark to test other mods. With subs it's virtually silent
TriggerPullTV Hi Elliot, I have SAK's fitted to both my rimfires. On the .22LR, I have wrapped some very thin scotchbrite equivalent from a cheapo shop (B & M I think) on the internal 3 section parts of the moderator. I have then kept this in place with some electrical tape. You need to do this tightly as possible otherwise it will not slide back into the outer part of the SAK. The end result is it is whisper quiet, you can virtually not hear the shot when its taken. I only did this because someone somewhere said it quietened the HMR, it does but not to any great extent compared to the LR. Might be of interest or not. Good hunting...where are you in the UK?
I also have a CZ 452 Varmint and the best so far is CCI Subsonic. Five shot group of .385" at 50 yards. SK standard plus 1070 fps is supposedly the same as Wolf rifle match. I'll have to try some.
Cracking video that mate, really well put together and thought out. Shame about the wind eh? That group with the eleys would hav been a bit special on a calm day!! Keep up the good work, it's nice to see people that actually know what their doing! Cheers bro
Remington at 2 grains lighter should be hitting high not low. My 452 loves the Eley round closely followed by RWS. I have never found a Remington round that is accurate, when I was instructing, the students would use Rems because of the price, if anyone showed a flair for shooting I put them on Eley straight away and their shooting always improved. Great vid mate and thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks for the post and I agree, Eley ammo really is top notch! I think the Remmingtons will be perfectly adequate for close range targets or perhaps even squirrrls when hide shooting - providing the backstop is safe of course!
Great video.... Love those CZ rifles. I've got a 452 Ultra Lux that is extremely accurate and should be picking up a 455 Varmint tomorrow when it arrives. I'm jealous..... I wish Hawaii would allow us to have suppressors 😕 Other states allow them after purchasing a $250 federal tax stamp.
hey! awesome group you shot with those sub sonic eley! my 452 ultra lux happens to shoot that stuff the best. I've shot about 10 different 1/4 inch groups with that ammo at 100 yards. good shooting buddy!
You did really really well mate in that wind. You mentioned the 17HMR and whilst it’s a lot quicker it’s generally only 17 grain and they blow about a lot more compared to a 40 grain 22 imho.
Cracking video Elliott, I've held off commenting until now as I only recently bought my first .22LR; I did the opposite to most folk and tried .17HMR, .223, .243 & .308 first! I've tried the Remington, Ely and also some SK (Lapua) subs so far, but not the Winchester yet. Like you I've a CZ but the 455 variant. So far, through my rifle, the SK's have performed best once range is pushed out to 70 & 100yds, although the Ely weren't far behind group wise. The SK's do seem to have a smaller 'hollow' point so I imagine the Ely's & Winchester may have better expansion but the bunnies haven't noticed so far... I'll try a box of the Winchester subs and see how I get on but I'll be surprised if they beat the SK for accuracy. Keep the vids coming :)
Eley £5 for 50. CCI probably £3.50 for 50. Minimags are £7 for box of 100.Very clean burning. However individual barrels react differently. In my Ruger 10/22 T Stainless it takes about 5 shots between types to settle the barrel. You may also find this with the CZ . Perhaps a few shots before you actually test the grouping. As to HMR several freinds have had issues with split cases and variable powder charges. It may also pay to sort ammo by weight. See Richard Uttings results with Minimags. Very interesting.
Good test, shame you never included CCI though i find them very precise and the CCI standard velocity are good value for money too (Admitedly not hollow point though). Would of been good to compare the Eley against CCI as my 452 Silhouette just loves them.
Elliot I have the same rifle .Eley subs I always use.Using mildot reticule . Rabbits in still air at 130 yards is quite possible with the gun.I use a Parker Hale Moderator which gives good results. The CZ has won a club competition at 25 yards with Eley subs scoring 100% on standard 25 yard on standard .22 competion targets against expensive guns etc.shooting off one's elbows from a bench ! Using a scope mind you not peep sights. You might find CCI Standard velocity ammo good too.My BSA Martini Mk V loves it but also favours Eley Subs at 100M on a military range.
Thanks Graham, I'll give the CCI's a try too. The only downside to the Eley is that they are quite pricey as far as .22LR ammo goes. Still over 50% cheaper than the HMR. I'd be interested to know what the retail price of the CCI's are
Ey up fella, really enjoy your videos - really useful in helping me decide what calibre's to go for etc when I put in for my FAC. How do you rate the Shoot-N-C targets you're using? I find them really useful but struggle with reticle definition against the black target face, at decent range I find it hard to pick out my mill-dots comfortably - is it just me? Keep up the good work mucka
my loves cci 40 and Winchester 42 max subsonics and suprising American eagle 40 grain super sonics are good too...... yet rws and eley were worst no supresors here in oz sadly good effort in that wind
It shows what you get from the cheap and cheerful remingtons, it's a shame I don't have expanding ammo on my ticket the eley performed brilliant down range.
great shooting ....and I just bought an Anschutz...!! fortunately for £375 with around 50 shots fired....ill be gutted if I cant match your performance...great shooting
I enjoyed your vid, thanks. More 5 shot groups in better conditions will give more meaningful results to confirm your findings. I think you'd shoot even better if you raise the comb to get better cheek weld.
xavierdoc I was just thinking to myself that he could benefit from a cheek bag. If it matters, the bag i have on my 452 holds a box of 50rds plus a 5 and 10 rd magazine perfectly.
I only read down about 20 or so comments so apologies if this, my post, is redundant. You'll notice the two low shots in the first group were both when you could hear the wind die down. You didn't have as much "push" from the wind as you did while firing the other 3 rounds, therefore they dropped a bit.
btw. eley subsonics is the best i have found for my cz452 also, try cci subsonics, they are pretty good also. i had my best group of 5 with them but on a whole the eley seem to be more consistent and accurate
Yeah - Like testing the max speed of a Ferrari, but in 5:00 o'clock, bumper-to-bumper, traffic. Not very meaningful and you certainly can't draw valid conclusions from it.
With "Higher" velocity ammo {1200 to 1450 fps} we take squirrels out to 150 yards. These loads would likely make you moderator or suppressor less effective.
fao R shay. what type of bipod are you using. i know a harris and a buffalo bipod both fitted straight on to my cz452 front sling stud, if yours does not then why not run run a drill bit through it. i do know when i got my sling it had its own swivel and they fitted in the studs but were tight but after a while the paint or coating on the swivel wore off leaving them free.
just a suggestion, you may want to raise the combination of your stock! I noticed you were struggling with your cheek weld. might tighten your groups up a bit!
I would be really interested to see how your cz452 shoots the high velocity ammo Elliott as my cz 511 loves the blazer .22 made by cci which is available in UK real cheap, but it prefers the winchester subsonic over all other ammo I have tested, its close but the winchester subs are just the winner, PS cant find the heavier 42 grain winchester subs anywhere!!
Never used high velocity but will give the Blazer a try and see how they fair. I've also bought some CCI Subsonics which I haven't yet tried.. I feel another ammo testing video coming up!..
impressed with that 3rd group pal good shooting I'm looking at getting my FAC soon and was looking at getting the cz are they any good m8 buy looking at that 3rd group as long as you got the right rounds type there on the ball

I strongly disagree, The first pad of your index finger should always be used, Your trigger release should always be predictable and controlled, "Not surprised"
it’s ok some fly but very group, under 2”,, well shoot bro.... i had my cz455 ultra lux last week, group at 50 yards and 70 yards was 1-1/2”... not bad... i will try next time 100 yards, hope that i can make a beautiful group like you....
how's it going a great video I've got a cz 452 lr also I use the eley subsonic I find them the best but I haven't got a bipod and would like to purchase one but would appreciate any information you could give me thanks
OK and then use your mill dot for the evolution as the windage will not changed once set will be useing eley subs in a anschutz 22 1417 great videos by the way
+Shaun Jenkins The mildots I used were based on a generic mildot reticle on x8 magnification. If you have a similar scope reticle you won't be too far off but always best to check the holdover points yourself, just to make sure. Kind Regards
452 trigger is like the latch on a garden gate. The 453 has a beautiful fully adjustable target grade trigger. Varmint has a heavier barrel and flat forend compared to a standard 452 which has a slimmer more sporting stock. 453 better for long range of a bipod. 452 lighter and arguably better out of back of land rover shooting without a rest.
+edyfofashow ...It did seem to be more of a sudden pull rather than a slow, gentle squeeze, though it is hard to tell by watching video. But it could explain the inconsistency.
Good vid. Can't believe how it brings out the cowards and loonies. My next .22 lr will be the CZ455.

great shooting and test...i do love the winnie subs..great work elliotg.
Awesome, brother. Love the CZs. Maybe someday. Hopeful that someday we'll be able to use sound suppressors in the "land of the free"......

Excellent video. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you! Now we know what kind of accuracy to expect from subsonic ammo in a bloody hurricane - using a shaky bipod - on dirt.
Otherwise known as real-world conditions?

Jordan Morga rifles 22 magnum scout
Great video, thinking of getting one of these. Did you buy this rifle new or second hand?
Seany Seany secondhand at a bargain price of £150
Have you give the Winchester 42grain subsonic? They group fantastic in my cz455 American.
Thanks for the video👍
The threads in the wood are different than uncle mike's , if u remove the screw and sling swivel the hole is to small for a bipod?

I have a cz 455 they're bomb proof easy to look after and for the money well worth it
For 22LR in a heavy wind you shot 2 MOA with Winchester which is good. The Eley was awesome for conditions. How much were you adjusting for the wind?
Thanks Tom, glad you liked the video. Believe it or not I wasn't holding anything for the wind at all. ATB, Elliott
All rifle barrels aren't the same which is why you guys now need to do what he did to see which you gun likes
Who did you mount the bipod on the z452 being that the cz company used parts that don't fit bipods or swivel .
I would love to buy this kind of 22 LR
have you ever had any problem with the Winchester subs not ejecting?
Nice video mate. ATB

That looked rather long in the barrel what length is it. Please
Good video what scope are you using ?
Hi Elliot TRY CCI .22 XL MATE
Hu No wind for me. Good video.
Is this the American model 452? What type of scope/rings? Thanks.
PhatJay yes it's the 452. I've been running an old Hawke Frontier 3-9x40 for a few years now. I think the mounts are Sportsmatch
good video I've just got 22 lr what range would u zero it at
Hi Shaun, I'd recommend 50m as a zero range. Thanks
OK and then use your mill dot for the evolution as the windage will not changed once set will be useing eley subs in a anschutz 22 1417 great videos by the way

I've got a hawke sport 4/12/50 with range focus do u use the eley subs for rabbits
The new Eley .22lr subs are not as good as the old Eley subsonic hollow point extra.
what bi-pod were you using?
Has the gun heavy and floating barrel? and
Hi! Which is different between CZ 453 Varmint and CZ452? Thanx!
The silencer how many inches
Is that a 20 inch barrel?
any idea why the eleyswere slightly high?
I find the 22lr dangerous,,it's a bouncy little fu**er ,,richochet central, swapped it out for the .17,superior and safer imho, good vid though.
Ветер сильный.
What silencer is that dude?
It's a SAK
theirs slmost that one stray round with most dhooters
And Who made this rifles?
Cz
I have shoot rabbits out to 150 yrds and have witnesses to the fact using Winchester 42 gr subs out of cz455
Have a 8-32 scope.
Do you really feel this is a valid ammo accuracy test ?
CZ are a Czech band
I bet that rifle could take down a brown bear 🐻 at 400 yards👓
My marlin 60 tube feed does a better group at 100 yards .
Wait isn't cz a czech company?
Yes,it is!
trigger pull. all I gotta say mate
+edyfofashow ...It did seem to be more of a sudden pull rather than a slow, gentle squeeze, though it is hard to tell by watching video. But it could explain the inconsistency.
Who can sell me a cz452. I was China. Chinese ban guns.
