You want to go for front or back windows, or just roll down the window, everyone isn’t living as a secret agent 😂. Or live around oceans a car takes a minute to sink
There’s one big problem with having laminated glass for side and rear windows...it makes it difficult for first responders trying to extricate those involved in an accident.
It also breaks into bigger chunks and can actually cut the occupant in the seat in rollovers for example. I don't understand why anyone would want laminated side windows in their car...
It also prevents you from being able to use the glass breakers to get out of a car if in water. The glass breakers are useless with laminated car windows. Your sunroof or hatch window may still be tempered so there may a saving grace. But this is a really bad downside to cars built after 2017.
Yea, this is an absolute shit idea. I didn't even know they did this until my wife's new jeep got a crack in the side window, which I thought shouldn't be possible. Two front windows are laminated, back two are tempered. We live on dirt roads, so, yay for having to replace side windows for the life of the vehicle. Also yea, the whole not being able to break the window you're directly next to could be a big issue.
One thing that should be mentioned is why tempered parts are used on the side windows most often. And that's because of collisions where you need to be able to escape the vehicle. Laminated glass would be pretty dangerous to break and climb out of. Tempered glass however might cut your hands a bit but will allow you to escape. Also even though tempered glass shatters when damaged, it is significantly harder to damage. Side laminated windows are relatively easy to Crack. Similar to a windshield. And are likely to need more frequent replacement due to chips and cracks.
While water and fire-related accidents are very serious, they make up less than .5% of all accidents that are reported on the road. With most passenger and driver injuries occurring during collisions, laminated side windows will actually do a more effective job of keeping you safe on the road.
My mom’s Equinox has laminated glass on the front side windows. Rocks never hit the side glass because rocks hit the front first unless someone throws rocks at it really hard.
My new Mazda has side laminated glass. Just noticed it the other day after cleaning the windows. Looks thicker than the rest and definately makes a difference in road noise
Just remember, if you ever drive into a body of water by accident you wont be able to open your doors until the pressure changes. Cant break the windows to get out either.
If you have a sunroof, that may stiff have tempered or a hatch may still have tempered. You need to check especially if living next to water because you wont be able to break the laminated glass to get out, you can break the tempered glass with the glass breakers.
@@On3Supply I did for Mr. Regular earlier today. I just muted the video and let it play in the background while I opened a new tab. The ad congratulates you for watching the whole thing at the end
All of our Fords we have owned since at least 2014 have had this on the side windows. You can wrap on it with your knuckles and tell the difference. Very solid feeling compared to tempered.
Exactly. I'd rather have a few extra decibels of road noise than not being able to kick or punch out the windows if the cars is on its side, roof or even underwater.
K.C.'s RC you're not likely to kick or punch out high quality tempered parts. Generally a tool that can focus the impact to a small point will do the trick, however.
Luke Vander Poel as Luke said underwater yea good luck kicking any window out with out a tool. Which they do make but escaping due to lack of tempered windows is a valid concern.
Here in germany its forbidden to have the front door windows tinted, they must be tempered for security reasons. Meaning if you crash others must be able to break the window and pull you out.

Not going to lie, this video threw me off coming from Matt lol. Awesome video and editing style! Was nice to see, hopefully more topics like this in the future!
The problem with laminated glass on side windows is that in case you are stuck in your vehicle you cannot use one of the little emergency glass breakers to escape. So unless you happen to have a framing hammer you are pretty much out of luck. I have heard that once you use your firearm to put a couple holes in the laminated side window glass it is possible to kick out the remaining glass once the cracks have propagated throughout it, unfortunately there are still a lot of people who do not carry such tools on their person though.
Good video. Just remember... Gonna be hard to get out of the vehicle in a fire or bad accident. The tempered doors and backglass is also a safety feature. More quiet? Heck ya.
But how would we know since he hit it with something different than the first class. It's a golf club and then it's a bat. The bat has a flat edge in the golf club has a steel head. One of those advertising tricks where you don't think about the fact that they're just lying to you.

I prefer tempered glass on all windows except the windshield. If an occupant in a crash is unconcious, it's going to be hell to get them out in an emegency with laminated glass.
Probably to symbolize how easy it was to break the non-laminated glass with a golf putter, vs the strong laminated glass with a baseball bat. It shows you just how much stronger the laminated glass is.
