Kim claims her daughter, Kimberly, has threatened her life, physically attacked her, been handcuffed by police, dropped out of high school, run away multiple times, stolen and crashed her truck, and spent 38 days in juvenile hall. She also claims the 16-year-old does ecstasy, cocaine, and meth, talks to older men online, tried to burn down the house, and even wrote in her journal a plan to shoot her mother and stepdad in their sleep. Kimberly says she hates her mother and wants her dead because she’d be better off without her. Kimberly’s mother, father, sister, and family friend come together to see what Dr. Phil can do to help stop Kimberly’s rebellious behavior before she ends up dead or in prison. The former medical director for the County of Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services Dr. Charles Sophy joins the discussion.

The look on that girls face when Dr. Phil sympathized with her and tells her she's not the problem made me want to cry. This is just a shitty situation. I hope Kimberly can get on the right path. She deserves to have a nice life and not end up a drug addict.

Hey Kimberly, if you're reading this, I understand how it is rn. My family is obsessed with drugs and alcohol and two family members have died from it. My mom was always drunk or on some heavy drug off and on my whole life.
I was and acted the same way you do and I was put in mental hospitals and rehabs and nothing helped bc I didn't want it. I didn't realize I needed people to love me and help me heal.
I'm 24 years old now and I have a full time job and starting school now. It took me 22 years to figure out that I'm the only one who will help me and care for me. All you have to rely on is you and sometimes it isn't enough. I hope you realize it sooner than I did.

As someone who has a similar situation where I rebelled with drugs and alcohol because of abusive parents , hearing “you aren’t the problem “ “this isn’t your fault “ is what made me continue doing what I was doing , even after I was 18. I could blame my parents and not hold myself accountable because everyone told me that they felt so bad for me and understand why I’m doing what I’m doing . What finally changed my life was when someone told me “you don’t have to feel guilty about the past because it was a symptom of abuse but you can’t let it ruin your whole life. From today on you are aware that you can make your own choices and you are accountable for them etc ....That is what really caused me to make a change so it worries me when doctor Phil tells this girl the same thing Medical professionals family and friends told me

She has wrote out a murder plan to kill her parents, Takes drugs normally, and is lost at 21. Whether you have shitty parents or not, it is not beneficial to her in any way and it should be easy for her to realize that. I’m studying to be a therapist and this whole series was horrible therapy work. I hope she gets the help she needs, and the love she deserves. Maybe she should be placed in a foster home for a little while, one that is reputable and has a reputation for taking in children and leaving them better than when they started. She needs structure, but she also needs love and affection, and I don’t see her getting any of those things if she continues to stay where she is. It sounds to me like her mother was never prepared to be a mother, and has taken out her poor choices on her children, and let them reap the consequences right along with her. I think placing her in a foster home, and getting her into therapy would be a really great step in the right direction. I don’t think she should be sent back to live with her mother at all, if ever. Any tips or advice Dr. Phil gives her will go away the first time Kimberly tries to test her moms limits, because the woman has no spine. She had no spine, and will fall back on old habits because that’s all she knows. I think if we want Kimberly to succeed and get on a better path in life, she needs to be pulled out of her mothers home and placed in one that will give her everything she needs. She needs to be put back in school, she needs to go to therapy, and she needs parents who will listen to her and not go out drinking at the first sign of trouble. She needs people who will be there for her, and will help her figure out better ways to process her emotions than by lashing out and hurting others. I’m praying for her, and I’m praying that she finds some people in her love he who will lift her up and help her become who she’s meant to be.

Dr Phil. You can "understand," but tell her trying to hurt herself or anyone else is wrong. She is the problem. Jerk. Evil.

*(99% of parents know this answer... that's if they're level headed) ... Why would, or do kids act out in anger or misbehave?? This poor girls parents certainly aren't capable of understanding!! Why?? Bc they're dealing with something internally that's bothering them which means somethings hurting them!!! This girl is in a TON of pain and she's BEGGING for help!! The way she speaks, writes in her notes, and her actions with drugs ....👏 Good job to her mother and father for failing her!! When you love your kiddos, you care enough not to hurt them and to understand what's going on and talking to them!! Both of my parents are amazing ppl and it's a blessing but.... my mother used to be an alcoholic which would turn her into a completely different person mad at the world and growing up, I took care of her and myself!! I went through A LOT in my childhood and you can either learn from what you've been through, or you can follow! My son is my entire life and my biggest fears are him ever having to hurt bc of me!! There's no possible way I could let that happen!!! There's no worse feeling than the feeling of your parents not caring bc they're the ones that should love you the most! When you have children, naturally, you should set your own wants and needs aside and do everything possible for them bc that's what it's about!! You have to care about yourself as well but that usually goes hand in hand and is basic common sense when it comes to being a parent!!! I hope and pray this girl finds her way out of her anger bc of her screwed up selfish parents!!! Always choose to be better than the ppl that let you down!!! That's how you win!*

I grew up with worse parents and never had any friends like that looking out for me. I didn’t need to write out a plan to kill someone. No need to tell this girl what she’s doing is understandable and okay, and that she’s strong, cause it’s really not okay.

The parent refuse to take any responsibility and it’s disheartening. However, this young lady made the choice to follow in their footsteps instead of wanting better for herself. By doing better and getting out of her situation...Everyone goes through and processes things differently and sadly she chose on her own to go down this destructive path. Hopefully she gets the guidance she needs.
