If my husband was being violent with our kids, I'd get the kids out safe and put him in treatment. You don't stay when the kids are being hurt, even if it breaks your heart to leave your spouse.
She might have been a different woman when he married her.
Can you imagine basically living with Michael Meyers. I mean he is hiding in his own home as she is trying to break down the door. You can love someone afar, far far away in safety.
