Look up CSDP (and PESCO). Not so much an EU army as deep cooperation. NATO works well as a framework even if the US were to drop out. Common procurement, coordinated production, and common R&D.

An European Army "per si" its not possible under the current situation. The EU is not a Confederacy and hardly countrys would agree to put their Armed Forces under direct command of other countrys... Europe is a cultural, social and political pot of friendly and antagonic relations. Elections being a key factor to that melting pot. Right and Left Partys will swing in to power every 4, 5, 8, 12 years.

The only party doing goose stepping here is Russia. The world has been down the road of appeasing genocidal dictators before, it got us the bloodiest war in human history. Appeasement does not work with the likes of Putin and Russia, the only thing that keeps them in check is power. It was what kept them in check during the Cold War and that's what will keep them in check now. We tried rapprochement, we tried integration, cooperation, investment, trade. 'European provocative behavior'? Are you serious? Keep in mind btw that Russia was invited by Europe to sit on the security council as a gesture of good will (which Russia then used to block just about all of European security) and EU/US have spent billions building up post-soviet Russia's infrastructure and economy (why its collapsing now that the EU/US have withdrawn over this war, because Russia has no capability to build or maintain the level of society they had achieved with EU/US support)

    • @hypnokitten6450
      @hypnokitten6450 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@golmgolm First off yea, supporting a defensive war of a country on your border between you and an aggressive neighbor is, in fact, a defensive. Not 'new', its history tried-and-true. Especially if you promised that country that if they disarmed their nuclear arsenal you'd protect them.
An 'offensive' war is when you send you troops into that country you promised to protect and attempt to invade them with your military while bombing their cancer hospitals and maternity wards, kidnapping their children, and putting bullets in the back of the head of their elderly while r**ing their women (and children). Out of all the actors in this conflict, remind me again which one is forcing a war?
And a 'trade war' isn't a 'war', it is just economy. And Russia was never subject to a 'trade war'. The way you know this is that the EU willingly developed a dependency on Russian gas (put its security at risk because it felt safe being friends with Russia), because most of Russia's infrastructure was built up by the EU/US (they felt secured building up Russia's economy, we know this because that's why everything in Russia is falling apart now without that support), and because Russia doesn't 'make' anything to trade that the EU/US really care to trade for. Russia has gas/oil (natural resources) and crops (natural resources). Nothing else. For there to be a 'trade war' (like with China), Russia would have to be able to somehow even step into the ring. But nothing is 'made in Russia' that anyone cares about. Hel, most of the things Russia 'makes' for its own use are 'made in China'.
The only thing that happened to Russia 'trade wise' is that it got sanctioned for horrific war crimes and for continuing to commit war crimes against a country that the west had a vested interest in protecting. Which should have happened after its atrocities in all the southern-hemisphere countries, but politicians be greedy yo, and they liked that sweet sweet Russian oil, until it all got to be too much.

Given how poorly the war in Ukraine has been going for Russia, I'm not sure how Russia would expect to benefit from actually attacking any Nato countries, especially in any kind of large-scale attack.
That being said, being prepared, and having well prepared military defenses, such as air defense systems, and ground forces who would be able to make any attack significantly more difficult, seems like a good idea. Russia is still more likely to try taking territory in some areas if they think that it would be relatively easy to take and hold it, especially if they think that they could somehow use it as some sort of bargaining leverage. They may also try to use the threat of attacking as some kind of bargaining leverage, though I don't think that would be a very good idea, or work very well.

      - China : clearly the great power of the 21rst century, looks out for China alone, sees Russia and North Korea as puppet under China's rule. Enjoys the cheap oil and gas from their preferred gas station, but highly unlikely to die for Moscow if there is nothing for China to gain (and there is nothing for them to gain, as what they want is in the Pacific), especially given the history between the two.
      - Iran and North Korea : totally, those are smaller nations which have all to gain in being into a strong alliance with Russia and are both currently "in the same boat" as Russia.
So even without entering the debate of whether NATO forces would be able to take on such a world war and manage to come out on top, the very premise is absurd ;p.

I've read everything on this and it is indeed 7-8%. They are using SPIRI numbers but other sources confirm this as well. To be honest I think the war economy stuff was a bit of a cope by lazy journalists. As they are spending 7-8% and only running a 2% deficit (1% in 2024), which in my view is not Keynesian war economy given the US right now has a deficit over 7%. Korean war we spent 15% of GDP and in WWII were spending over 40%. Those were war economies. Increased military spending is a factor but it doesn't fully explain why Russia has had a strong economy. Other economists think its because the oligarchs have to reinvest their profits as they can't move their money to tax havens like the UK or Cyprus. High commodity prices are obviously a factor as well. It's a large economy, $2T in nominal terms but $5.5T to $6.4T economy in output terms (PPP).

Russia has been living from selling oil and gas to Europe. From that it got rich in the last 20 years. Since the wold is moving slowly to a green transition, that financial income from oil and gas will drop. The green transition is only possible, if there is enough raw earth/Lithium. Both of it is available in Ukraine. Besides that, Ukraine has very fertile soil for agriculture. It supplies Europe, Africa and China with food. The agricultural land of Russia is very poor. At the Soviet time Ukraine supplied food for the whole of Russia. It was called the food basket of Russia. Russia's demography is strongly in decline. A Russian women gives only 1,2 children in state of a 2,1 to keep the population at an equal level. Now to ransack Ukraine and steal their children is just what their imperialistic mind is telling them to do. Russian leadership never cared about any human values. Not for their own people and surly not for the west, which they consider as bad and uncultured. And russian aggression has made it clear to all NATO members that Russia intends to destroy them eventually anyway, so if Russia is willing to go to such extremes over Ukraine, so must be NATO. They had to draw the line somewhere.
Except the russian aggression is made with tanks and bomb where the "NATO aggression" has been made of treaties and people begging to get into the alliance. Not that it matters, just pointing out that if what you say is true, then nuclear war it will be. Let's hope Putin is a bit smarter about this whole affair he started.

I live in hawaii. So there's a lot of foreign businesses that is happening. Particularly from china. I think we should just focus on stopping All foreign businesses that are connected with China or russia. Not Japan cuz I love Japan. And Japan poses no threat to america. Because they don't have an army. They're brilliant and wonderful in every way. Anyway we should just focus on all the Chinese businesses and foreign businesses if you shut those down and just give them to the local Hawaiian people americans. Then it would help our economy also it would hurt them to make them think what they're trying to do towards america. Just stop doing business and not giving them land on American soil. That would totally work by the way.. and then also if you take out their satellite. It'll stop them from trying to mess with us cyber attacks and all that jazz. You can make a weapon that looks like a meteorite that oops accidentally hit their satellite there it goes oopsy. Little take some time to repair.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity.
In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.
If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.
Zelensky admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time.
Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.
20th September, 2021. Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO.
NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter).
We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc.
Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster?
Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest.
Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland.
Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed.
Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”.
Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it.
Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country.
Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list.
Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list.
There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence).
The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present.
Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.
Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P.
The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims).
The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter.
I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion.
I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written.
Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified...
