@@TheLaualamp Yeah legs are pretty much just used for stabilization in most cases. Otherwise, in a forward paddle stroke like these guys are doing its more back and core (with arms, chest, and shoulders all heavily engaged).
Imagine the entirety of your sport training career coming down to winning or losing by 1/500th of a single second. I think I'd be a huge second-guesser in that situation: is it because I took that ONE day off and that guy didn't? Does he weigh a few ounces less? Did some wake turbulence wave BS slow me down or speed him up? Was the wind blowing the perfect direction?
You'd be surprised about how much they use their legs 😂 the stroke starts with the legs on the stroke side bent, and the other one more or less straight. As the paddle moves through the water the stroke side leg straightens and the other bends. It helps with efficiency and gaining more power through the stroke. I kayak competitively too, and most of my gym program is for my legs 😊
They're driving with their legs to add more power to their stroke. They also have a rudder that they use to make sure their boat doesn't go off course.
Muddled voice, but am I hearing the great Andrew Cotter announcing this event? 😊 Wonder if Olive and Mabel are allowed to run along the bank and bark at the racers? 😂
To my observation, about Evgeny Slakhov # 2, from Russia. His each stroke was the strongest, the only mistake he made was, he used to give/take a fraction of second pause while making his each stroke. Those pauses brought him to lower rank. All olympic or international players of Kayaking should notice, watch, observe this video, see if I am right in commenting on a well reputed sports person. whether my observation is right?
There's literally no room for leg day in this sport.
its actually 80% leg powered if you understand the sport.
@@lakers_in5 jokes are tough for you, eh?
@@lakers_in5 doesn't seem like it would be "80% leg powered. It's not rowing, after all.

TH-cam recommendations: here you go
Now add bike gears/pedals for the feet which power a small propeller have they’ll go double the speed
look at their legs tho
That’s a different sport
M8 that’s rowing
You can’t bc you’re feet movement adds a lot of the power with kayaking
Check out Lithuania @9:09 he clearly has pedals but they ain't done him no favours.
My heart will go on meaghan martin and claire holt
1/500 of a second makes a difference
most people cant even sit in a kayak like that without immidiately falling over
Lol or true
It's true, kayaking requires lots of core strength, endurance, technique (unless you want to tear a muscle), and especially stability.
@@cofishfinder7269 most???!!
It needs like 6 months training!!
There's a dude named *Cesar de Cesare* 6:00

I was a little further back trolling for a pike.

Upper body workout champions go head to head in the ultimate no leg day sport
Actually you would be surprised how much they use thei legs
As chopsticks for eating Asian food
Without strong legs ur nothing in this sport
I like the other announcer in the background
Someone skipped leg day
Olly Metcalfe you'd be surprised how much they drive with their legs on each stroke
Gianluca Bush
True, true
Their upper bodies would definitely be more developed then the lower

bruh why are the ambient sounds louder than the announcer
Guys they literally countersteer with their legs on every stroke...they are built, they just look small in the boat
I wish this was how I went to school.

My only fear would just be me throwing away my paddle with these helicopter moves
Believe me it happens sometimes Ive seen it
"Two one-hundredths of a second" no... that's two one-thousands of a second... utterly pointless.
Just like you:)
From the waist up they look like Greco-Roman wrestlers, from the waist down like long distance runners.
Kinda true, their legs aint huge because they need long lasting power for their legs.
@@aaronhapponen2901 you need long lasting power for your legs in rowing🤷♂️
I'm confused, why does it say canoe and kayak in the title? Are their boats both canoes and kayaks at the same time?
2/1000ths of a second... not 100ths

Are they pedaling as well or are they just operating a rudder that counteracts their power stroke?

I would say so . he also missed a half second at the start and you could see his strokes becoming less frequent towards the end
I really think you shouldn’t question any of those guys paddling style.
Saul Craviottos stroke rate is actually lower than his, so his strokes were probably the strongest as he also weights more than Salakhov.
