Yes, Alfa Romeo has 'soul'. That engine sound is straight from a 70's Alfa Alfetta 1.8. Seems to run in the family. Plasticy bits are easily forgiven.

Aluminium shift knobs (like in Civic Type R or Honda Accord, with leather cover) are used as the weighting improves shift feel. :). A fabric cover can always be used on hot or cold days, of all things an Alfitsi would know shift knobs are supposed to be metal as per the Ferrari 355 and other variants. :)

I understand, agree an quote most of everything. I can't really understand her complaint on steering. It is Giulietta's best part. It is stated by all car review magazine, it has been said by all Giulietta's owners. Sloppy steering? You could criticize lots of other stuff, I might agree. Not the steering! I start doubting about your testing capabilities.

I saw one of these driving down my road yesterday evening. It was black, and looked stunning! The rear lights have a really unique 6 - 9 shape marked in LEDs when they are on and look really cool. Like no other car. This makes the focus/golf/astra look blander than diluted water. Even the 1-Series looks awkward next to it.
Well done Alfa! Now if you can just get the dealers to give better service....

I honestly don't get the criticism of the steering. I drove a latest model Golf as a hire car in Portugal earlier in the year. I liked it. I don't know what it was exactly, but it felt like a 1.2 or 1.4 Turbo Petrol. Probably 1.2 because it took off well, but slowed after hitting 100 KPH (60 MPH). But the felt standard, for lack of a better word. I never felt like i could push it in the corners.
But my Guilietta! OMG! It feels like it has insane grip! If i'm in Dynamic mode and i floor it coming out of roundabouts, obviously, the wheels will spin because i'm asking the front wheels to give me all of the engine's power *and* turn as well. So no front drive car can do that. But when i request sensible traction from it? It feels like i could go round a round about at 100 MPH if i didn't touch the accelerator pedal! I have so much confidence in the grip levels of my Guilietta! It feels like my Alfa has more rip than my R32 Skyline!

Seriously I don't understand the complaint about the steering. I tested every other can in the segment before buying my Giulietta (Golf, Leon, 1er, Mazda 3, Ford Fiesta, etc.) and the Alfa Romeo is by far the one with the most sharp and comunicative steering. For giving the idea, I also test drove an MX-5 (third series) and I didn't find a big difference regarding the steering feedback.

I totally agree with you rokkett there are a few niggly problems with the car but steering is definitely not one of them. The handling in my alfa was shocking to me as I couldn't believe how good it is! It is the best handling car iv owned in my 28 years of driving and iv had wrx 4wd imprezas. Also it gets on my goat when the old test drivers used to declaim the DNA system which has now been adopted by the very best modern sports cars including BMW M division! Not surprisingly no reviewer has ever critisced there exact system. Lemmings and sheep me thinks

I do like FIAT and many people whom I know will think I'm mad, but I like FIAT because of their technical achievements and unique styling. The Multi Air engine is one advancement that should be noted and this alone would entice me to buy a FIAT based car, especially with those figures. Recently, many designers have been promoting diesel, but now it has been realised that petrol offers more refinement and with some effort can be just as economical as diesel, thus better all round.

@paulb4uk Well it is a pretty light car, and it's not like you're going to be racing in a diesel.

I don't buy cars by the number of dealerships. I buy cars taking other things into comparison. Cost, Engine, Style and reliability. Alfa Romeo mostly had style (although i don't like many of their cars) but lacked the other important things and thats what i think is making people rather watch an alfa instead of buying one.

That 49 mpg quote is a load of bull. You'll struggle to get anything over 40 mpg on the motorway. In mixed driving you wont get it over 35 mpg unless you drive like a granny

It's a shame they missed the mark a bit, as it otherwise looks like a sweet little car.

I'd rather want to see absolute numbers...predictions are just hot air. Lets see how they do. The Giulietta is definitely a nice car, but can it beat the opponents in other parts too besides looks ? We'll see.

@dschonsie I completely agree with Alfa being better than a Golf...
but you’re making a sick comparison mate where you from Russia or somewhere.
    God Damn it

I'm sure you will eventually realize that an Focus RS is way outta the Giuliettas league with over 300hp.
If you compare then do it sensible.

@ToniFilth sorry to burst your bubble, but it's a free world out there, outside your fanclub, so i am pretty much free to watch whatever i want, buy whatever i like and look at whatever i want.
Don't be upset VAG makes better cars than Alfa, they just do. As i said in one of my earlier comments to you - "love your Alfa and be happy", so stop wasting your time trying to convince the world it's the best car. If you like it, it's a good enough reason to own one, i think. Peace out.
