My 2012 Giulietta QV is a smasher, purchased new in 2012 and still loving it, my interior still looks new, I think some people just dont look after stuff as well as others.

A true Giulietta expert! More than an average Italian garage... a few comments from a 10 year old model owner: steering wheel wear can be resolved by installing a better looking and sturdier MY 2014 steering wheel. The gear knob peeling can be resolved DYI by installing a new top shell (very cheap). The front grill (if broken can also be substituted with a MY 2014 grill, which can be found online for very cheap. The boot door cables can be repaired at home by simply removing the rubber joint and linking back the cables (better to add a few CM of cable). The squeaky suspensions can be resolved by spraying silicon lubricant on the moving rubber parts, which can be done when doing a tire change (I spray every 6 months and now at 110k the car is quieter than when it was 40k). Also now door handles are available on the web (no need to buy the full door panel).
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

That's good that they make the handles now as when I made this video there was no option. 👍

Owned mine for 2 years, had 3 problems.
1, The wire for the stop start sensor under the gear stick became fatigued and snapped. I fixed it myself, no cost.
2, The heater fan stopped working. Turned out to be stuck so I poked it with a screwdriver and freed it then blasted it with a bit of WD40 and it's been fine since, no cost.
3, One of the front top mounts failed and I couldn't be bothered to do it myself in the cold, so booked it in. Cost £150.
Its the Multiair Veloce and has done 79,000 miles, I do a lot of short journeys so change the oil every 6 months, which is about 3,000 miles for me. Great car.

yes, good show. If you're buying a 1.4 petrol there's a few important things to check on the engine/gearbox. 1. engine not idling or running correctly which could be the multiair system, big fix. 2. engine and gearbox leaks which are common. 3. turbo failures, ie rattling bearings, or not enough boost. Also make sure it has the correct oil in the engine, as the multiair uses the oil as hydraulic oil, (as well as lubrication) to operate the parts within the multiair unit.

14:30 about timing belts from Alfa Romeo Giulietta manual:
Regardless of kilometres travelled, the timing belt should be replaced at 4 years or 60,000 kilometres for vehicles operating in dusty areas and/or demanding use, long periods of idling and continuous stop-start driving. For vehicles operated outside the aforementioned conditions, timing belt replacement should occur at 6 years or 120,000 kilometres.

    • @jaimerg
      @jaimerg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In Spanish user and workshop manual, timing belt must be changed every 5 years in heavy use conditions (distance regardless)

Had mine 18 months and this video has just show me the trip computer has more function on it then I knew about, thank you!
Also in 18 months I've had:
Temperature gauge has gone which isn't critical but it needs the entire wing mirror replacing to fix it although I've found reports online saying that this can be repaired by cleaning the connectors inside the wing mirror
Gas struts in my boot went but that's not an Alfa fault and cost £30 to buy new ones
Neutral output went on the stop start which stopped DNA working which cost £170 to get repaired and this was a cable that had snapped under the gear stick, the cable is about £15 but you've got to take the exhaust off to get to it and that was wear and tear because of where it is.

There is a website in the UK that supplies lots of parts for this car (Alfashop) like door handles etc, everything is pretty reasonable.
A lot of these problems aren’t major and you’re not very likely to suffer from 2 or 3 of these problems if you keep this vehicle for a good length of time.
People forget this model has been out for a very long time and problems with the earlier models get linked with the newer versions because they all look the same, unlike other manufacturers.
I have a couple of niggles with the car but overall it’s a good car.

Also some other things to look out for from my QV : 1) The fuel flap tends to get stuck with age 2) The gear knob cover came loose after 50,000Kms on mine 3) The Air condtitioning sensor was playing up after 50,000kms also was replaced. Cost $100. Otherwise the car was fine no other major problems and quite happy with it.

Great buyer guide. I sold last month my AR Giulietta 1.4 Multiair TCT with 120.000km. In my case, I must repair/replace de boot wiring for two times (rear window heating, FM aerial, reverse light and real wiper terminal 30 source), the fuel cap locking mechanism (it's a very common issue), the door handle, the antiroll bar links, one front wheel bearing, one drive shaft and the battery terminal current sensor. I had also problems with the temperature sensor of air conditioning evaporator, that makes de A/C compressor didn't start (is just only clean it!). I only have wear signs in the interior door handle and in the surface of the front headlight plastic lampshade (normally in sunny Spain). Another typical issue related with heat and sun in south of Europe is dashboard crack in the passenger airbag zone. The airbag module warps and brake the plastic (same problem as FIAT 500s). No mechanical problem with the engine or the gearbox in 120.000 km and 5 years. Overall, 8/10. Best regards!

I must have a good one. Bought 4 years ago for £2k my 2011 2.0 JTDM Veloce in 140bhp format has had no major problems and has now covered 155k miles. In my ownership I've replaced the tailgate wiring at zero cost as I had all the stuff required (I rebuild old British sports cars as a hobby), put a set of Brembo discs and pads on, oil and filter changes each year and I've just last week replaced two front drop links, one lower wishbone and a snapped spring.
The interior is squeak free, she does 65 plus MPG if I take it easy, and costs £35 for VED, £155 fully comp per year. The only problem now is an intermittent slipping clutch, but the car still drives and I'll keep going until its proper knackered - the parts are down in price now at £300 (Sachs) with the flywheel and silly release bearing/servo unit, or £200 for a QH solid flywheel conversion including clutch and pressure plate.

Totally agree about the space (or lack of it) for the left foot, maybe a hangover from the change to RHD? I also found that the three pedals are at different heights. The pre facelift seats are very hard and I thought it was like sitting on rather than in them. I think there’s a good reason that the TCT version commands a higher used price

I couldn't help but Crack up during the whole video: This is a good quality car. If you have problems it might be with the engine or transmission, but the body and interior are very reliable. Except for the fog lights and side lights. Sometimes they corrode up and flicker. Oh, the door handles break sometimes too. And the rear lights fail because the wire looms wear out. Oh, the antennas fail too. But the interior is great. Decent quality. But sometimes the inner door handles break which is quite expensive to repair. And sometimes the hand brake wears out too. And the. And the flimsy plastic breaks. But they're a great car inside and out. Lol.

      1) Blue and Me will eventually pack up, This caused the battery to die, if it does, it will cause the odometer to flash too. The fix, is to pull out the blue and me system completely with battery disconnected, a Small box behind the dash, reset the ECU with MultiECUScan, and plug in a Bluetooth adapter into the CD port as an alternative.
2)shorts in the famous "rear boot loom" this caused the boot light to drain my battery dead. Again, simple fix.

Great guide. I have owned a 2010 1750tbi Cloverleaf for a year now, thankfully almost nothing I wasn't already aware of. These are fantastic cars, I don't regret trading in my old 147. My steering wheel ornament was degraded as you showed, I bought a new one from eBay and followed an airbag removal guide to change it. I'd recommended changing the wheel buttons whilst you're there, some wear out on older cars. I did have a turbo failure just after I bought it, but I've no idea what the previous owner did to cause that as it was within days. I'd also second weak gearboxes, I've just gone over 100K and my 4th synchro is a bit dodgy. 1st and 2nd are a bit unfriendly too, which is normal for lots of city miles. I'm assuming I'll have to have the box reconditioned in another year or so. I've had a couple of random airbag errors from loose plus, but I already owned MultiECUScan from my 147 so I was able to clear them without cost. They've not recurred since re-seating the connectors.

I bought a 1.4 TB (not MA) last week and have returned to the Alfa fold after being away for a few years. It is infinity more interesting a car than my mk8 1.8 Honda Civic. Although in honesty the Honda is better designed, better screwed together and is easier to work on. Nothing on the Honda is in a stupid location and is logical. However the Giulietta rides far better as it has multi link rear suspension unlike the Civic's solid rear beam. The 1.4tb engine is great as it has plenty of low down torque, I don't drive fast these days so I don't care for top end performance. The main issue with the Giulietta is the random interior rattles, there's one from the dashboard near the central storage space and one on the driver's side doorcard, haven't quite nailed them down yet.
Despite all this I'm loving Alfa ownership again. No other brand like it!
