The artistic direction is beautiful, the fashion choices works so well and contrasts the setting (the video had a lot of controversy as people who never heard the song thinks it’s about blasphemy/heresy, and Gaga state once that the only sin in the video is mixing fashion designers in one look lol). The value of the fashion department of this video alone can probably produce 10+ videos. The research done with religion is mixed well with the video and song. It’s just done SO WELL.

People have been trying to catch up to Gaga for years. She was seen as weird in the beginning of her career because she expressed herself and people ignored her vocals. IMO, since she connected with Tony Bennett, people started to pay attention and of course, after A Star is Born, people really began to notice her talent. Thru her whole career, she's always had 'hidden' messages in her videos and I haven't truly understood the meaning of each one but I am always impressed with her artistry!

Which is dumb because this song was and always will be a BANGER. The thing here is that Lady Gaga is playing Mary Magdalene. She's Jesus's girlfriend (in this video) but she's drawn to Judas. She says in the video that Judas has hurt her multiple times but she'd still do anything for him because she's drawn to him and doesn't know why. And then she helps Judas betray Jesus (by marking him with the lipstick aka the kiss of death) which gets him killed. And then because of her role in it, she's stoned to death at the end.

Judas has a very deep meaning. It means "falling inlove to someone new". Its like adultery. Jesus is her virtue (husband) and judas is the demon i cling to (new found lover). Its very deep and this is my favorite song of hers.
