Ant is one of the GOATs of the decks. Him and Abilities are two of the most exceptional producers whose music I've been lucky enough to digest all these years.
I've met Ant a couple of times around town. Such a cool and humble dude! Minneapolis and the world for the matter, are so lucky to have The Rhymesayers!
I loved this interview. I met Ant very briefly backstage in Wisconsin this summer on a Afterparty tour we did with Spray Allen, Eric Wilson of Sublimes other band. We followed Atmosphere, Sublime with Rome, and Slightly Stoopid and did shows in each city after they played with Eric. Ant had a great vibe to him. I liked hearing about the criminality element because I had that too. I was doing opiates and stealing and robbing and got caught at 19. Cleaned my life around and started my band. Thank you brother Ali and Ant for the vulnerability.
Aww man, this was the one dream guest for me! I've been really hoping for an Ant conversation... Love the video format and quality too btw, this is great.
Much respect Brother for bringing this interview to reality. So so interesting. Ant's production was seminal and so defining in the musical journey of a young man ten's of thousands of miles away in Australia. I just knew these cats were producing and rapping from such an authentic and honest place, not tainted by preconceptions of the day. Much love to all those listening🙏
I love both of these dudes. I met Ant before a show in Orlando, FL. We had a 30 minute conversation about music production. One of the most gracious and humble dudes ever. Much respect. 💚🫡👊🏻
I Appreciate You ANT/BROTHER ALi 💖🙏🏽 Thank you for showing what Real People are like. Our world is in dieing need of more genuine Heads like you. Been a Fan Since the beginning and will be until the end and BEYOND. MUCH Love and Respect
One of the greatest and most underrated hip hop producers of all time in my opinion. And his work has only gotten better as the years have gone on. Thank you for this one Ali!
Respect to ANThony Davis & ALI Newman, two amazing beautiful souls. Thank ya'll for doing what you do & sharing your experiences. I was that Kid in the early days at Fifth Element like holy shit it's ANT every time! Always RHYMESAYERS for Life. Respect the Life. Peace, Love + Blessings. =)
i can't express my love and gratitude to this man. nine years old in '05 and twenty years later he's in my ear almost every day. thanks for the inspiraton ant; you have astounded me on Vida Local, Word, Halloween, and SMORES man; keep evolving and speaking your truth; can't wait for bad dub 2 on LP
Ant was a very early inspiration to me as a hiphop producer. This really reminded me of my father was very solid and funny but also extremely harsh. This was a great interview salute to rhyme sayers. I remember never meeting Ant we drove very far to a atmosphere show in Chicago at the Metro and it also happen to be the shadows on the sun release party and I heard some of those songs live for the first time and it was amazing and I got to meet Ant too that night can’t believe that was 20yrs ago.
Great interview session and to be able to listen to Ant's stories and such. It was great and well worth the time. The minute I heard about it I definitely thought to myself, I gotta hear this out. Much respect to these geniuses
i just want too say you 2, and slug are legends in my book. your guys music hit my heart and soul. got me thru the darkest times of my life. IM FOREVER greatful of that. Thank You
We gotta collaborate bro. I bet you here that all the time, but you might find me a little different then most. What do you get for a feature? Or is it more about if you're in to it. I got a track called Be The Change you might be interested in.
Thank you for this, Brother. been following all you guys from new zealand for almost 20 years. I'm a hifi and hip-hop nerd from way back. I love Ant's production style. I don't think there is anyone in the scene that cam make tracks that sound so huge, so intimate, so dynamic and exquisite to the ear. his tracks accompanied by the people he works with... whew. To my mind only Outkast comes close for sheer truth and enjoyment of a song. so it's real lovely to finally see a bit of Ant and him being himself. Definitely going to check out the podcast. Can't believe I didn't know you were doing this until now. Thank you. Much love to you all.
Peace & respect to the Legend Ant!!! salute from St. Paul! 🫡 My dream is to rap on a Ant beat one day if you can make that happen Ali because I know Anthony isn't out there on IG or Twitter to reach out to! haha 😁😁😁 blessings, part 2 will be sweet; can't wait! ✌🏼🙏🏻😁
Ant's cool as hell. I met him outside The House of Blues in Dallas. A lot of people were starstruck and we weren't. I think he appreciated that because he invited us behind the ropes and bullshitted with us for like 45 minutes. It was just normal conversation. My friend Corey texted me and I told him we were hanging with Ant. He came up starstruck and started asking a bunch of questions about producing Love Life. It got weird after that so we bounced. Shout out to Ant!!
RSE are legends for life - Much love to all from the TC aka the SOTA - Thank you for sharing these stories that show yourselves behind the scenes of your music - So much insight and many memories - Art imitates life imitates art - One the write too think.
In my humble and informed opinion, Ant is the greatest producer of hip-hop of all time. It was Ant’s beats that lured me to Rhymesayers almost 20 years ago and if you know me, you know I rock * hard * with Atmosphere and Brother Ali. I’m so grateful for this podcast, and all things created by Brother Ali, because of the authentic space he holds for anyone he interacts with. And we all know the homie Ant doesn’t do interviews, so I’m sincerely grateful for every minute of this episode; it was such a beautiful glimpse into the inner workings and life of such a gifted soul walking his purpose on this planet.
Peace peace, as a producer who has grown up being inspired by Ant and ya'lls works... this was a wonderful experience to witness you two throughout this conversation. also, my mom is in Cyprus now, but just came from Istanbul, I appreciate your journey and inspiration. and your heart. Mish Mushkila
Miranda here again from blood on beats. I think one of my favorite parts of the course was realizing that ant is my favorite producer. He’s what got me into atmosphere those fucking beats and some of my favorite songs of yours and in general in life are his. He’s an icon. And this interview is amazing.
To hear Ant speak of growing up as a military kid was brilliant. My experience was similar, although my Dad was in the Australian air force. Still, its nice to hear him talk of those times and recognise the similarities with my childhood experience. He is also one of the producers who continues to inspire me and my own production. Big ups to you, Brother Ali and to Ant for this interview. Looking forward to Part 2.
This video just inspired this lyric in me. Slug is a slug but he is carried by ant/they creat atmosphere that these humans try to understand/ that’s why they got longevity that we all over stand. Mad love all of you men, have inspired me and helped me through this beautiful journey, BIG UP’S Mad Love ! Mad Respect! You all have been an inspiration and a blessing Straight laced me up!
Went to their show last night in Indy. After their set he walked by in the crowd. Luckily my wife saw him and I yelled out his name. He turned around and came over. Cool dude and the best producer in my book.
Right before Slug came on stage at a show in like 2010, Ant spun the the best 20 minute set I've ever heard. All bay music for a show in Nor-cal. Respect!
Many moons ago my best friend and I chilled with ANT at rock the bells in the bay. I won a drinking game playing rock paper scissors by a shitty hotel pool! Lol, I think he still owes me a 12 of corona
Everytime I hear people mention their favorite producers, it is always the same names...maybe as time has gone on there have been new ones to come up. ANT is forever solidified as one of my Favorite Beatmakers and Is One of The Greatest Hip Hop Producers of all time.
It's so cool to see this interview I aways searched for ant interviews I've only seen one there was a audience and he heard his family members laughing about what was he talking about he was like oh shit my family's here he didn't know until he hears them..he is so dope
This is the first thing ive seen from you aside From your music. I love a few of your songs. Im absolutely obsessed with atmosphere... So i clicked on this... I appreciate you rhyme sayers❤
Subbed, did not know about the pod, have to say I gotten so much people addicted to Atmoshpere / Ant / Brother Ali, cuz just like you discuss here, I would always say, wanna listen to real Hiphop? Physiological and philosophically real, then you need authentic artists. And as Ant says, creating a space where you feel safe and able to be vulnerable is where the best art is created. Authenticity, it's what makes people beautiful and highly interesting.
I forget sometimes but I actually hung out with Ant when Atmosphere did a show at the Paladium in Los Angeles back in 2009. Eyedea opened up and I was able to meet Eyedea after the show briefly and tell him his new album is dope. I think Ant smoked weed with me and these girls I met at the show as well but I could be mistaken lol Ant inspired me so much I still kinda make beats like him tbh Atmosphere is all I would listen to in my late teens and 20s tbh and I got more of his Vinyl and know more about Atmosphere than anyone I know.
Brother Ali 🎉 First time I’ve seen you in a minute and you look good! Congratulations 🎈🎉 You my need to retire that jacket though - you not fat no more 💪 and it looks big on you.
Ant is one of the GOATs of the decks. Him and Abilities are two of the most exceptional producers whose music I've been lucky enough to digest all these years.
Thasswassup
wwrd up abilities need more shine on his time fr fr
I have been down with Atmosphere for 20 something years, this is the first time I hear Ant speak besides "Hello" once at a show..what a trip!
After enjoying his work for decades, this may be the first time I have ever heard him speak. What a treat. Glad you had him on, Brother.
I've met Ant a couple of times around town. Such a cool and humble dude! Minneapolis and the world for the matter, are so lucky to have The Rhymesayers!
Much love
Ant is so incredible. So great to hear this story
Thank you so much, Brother Ali & Atmosphere (for everything you are and for all the things you do)!!! May the prophet bless all your ways!!!
