You reacted a long time ago to the Doobies singing "You Belong to Me". Michael McDonald apparently co-wrote it with Carly Simon; you might want to try her version of that one as well, her voice is a bit stronger on that one. Of course, Michael is always the most funky!
Holy Cats ! Carly and the Doobies bringing the funk ! I LOVE her vocal here ! This has inspired me to work my way through her catalog - Cheers, friends ! ☮️
Took me many years to appreciate Carly Simon’s voice. Glad to see you including some more females in your lineup. 💜💜💜 Grace Slick, Melissa Etheridge, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Baez, more Heart & Joni Mitchell.
I listen to a lot of different stuff but I'm mostly a hard rock, blues guy. But I've always loved Carly, especially her early stuff. Man, the melodicism and emotions of songs like "No Secrets" and "The Right Thing to Do" hooked me, more so than "You're so Vain"
Hooked me with You're So Vain in 1972, but your choices are just as valid; her voice is *so* pure, she writes beautiful confessional lyrics, plays piano and has a swing to her, such as on this.. Have a listen to Tranquillo (melt my heart) th-cam.com/video/wHVJkP6wLEc/w-d-xo.html
Had never heard this version. Carly hits it out of the park and the Doobies show they know a great female voice when they hear it. Thanks for bringing me this gem guys!
Carly can soothe my stress anyday. She's a treasure ❤ and what a beauty! She stuttered as a child, so her mom encouraged her to sing instead of just speaking. And it gave us the Magic called Carly Simon. Great selection 👍🏼
The "Another Passenger" album was one of her best, with great musicians backing her up. The Doobies, Little Feat, Andrew Gold, Glenn Frey, Dr. John, Klaus Voormann, Laurindo Almeida, Van Dyke Parks, and of course James Taylor, her husband at the time, all contributed. In addition to the Doobies' drummers John Hartman and Keith Knudsen, she had Jim Keltner, Richie Hayward, and Andy Newmark. And she had Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and Mama Cass's sister Leah Kunkel among others singing backup on different songs.
This is a great version of a great song. Carly is a treasure and her catalog is amazing. I don't think I've heard one song of hers and said meh. Ever. She's one of the best.
Carly is definitely a staple in one of my Favorite era of music 🫡that mid late 70s lite rock. But they did put some funk on it 😮definitely downloadable
Che being torn between Carly's cover and Michael's original reminded me of myself back in '73 with Linda Ronstadt's cover and Eagles original "Desperado" ~ no choosing possible, both outstanding💞
After a successful 3 album run with legendary producer Richard Perry, for Carly's 7th studio album Another Passenger, she brought in long-time Doobie Brothers' producer Ted Templeman for the project. Templeman brought the song to Carly along with a couple Doobies to lay down the tracks. He also brought in the band Little Feat to help round out the rock sound Carly wanted. Fun fact: Carly was pregnant with her second child, Ben Taylor, when she recorded the album.
@airplaybeats ✨Thank~You so much for giving this a listen❕Such a joy to see your reactions❕Sorry I missed the live stream in the moment reaction. Please do a dive into Carly’s Catalog, it is So diverse, story telling & poetry in melodic motion❕To me, her voice is like ‘Warm Honey’. I don’t know if Che got a message/comment I said about getting a song or verse as a little homage to him (as La has So Many in numerous songs that I noticed give him a little grin or smile!) I have 2 songs that are so VERY Different that give Che a little homage. You have to listen to Carly Simon’s Studio version of ‘I Haven’t Got Time For The Pain’, from her HOTCAKES Album, & KISS from their self titled debut album, the song titled ‘You Got Nothin’ To Lose’❕I hope that Che may get a kick out of it, as it is the closest I could get so far!✨💖✨🕊✨😊✨
There is an Awesome version of Carley singing "That's the Way I always heard it should be" live in a red dress that you guys should watch!!! Incredible
Carly can do no wrong. I guess I never noticed before, but it seems like back in this era artists seemed to cover songs that were just recently released by the original artist. This one is dynamite by Carly and The Doobie Brothers.
Great review. I would love to see you guys react to Evanescence's video Call Me When You're Sober. It's had millions of views and shouldn't get blocked. Thanks for all your reviews. I watch all the time!
@14gilbertst ✨You are so right, BUT….. Thank goodness for FM radio (@ the time.) & getting to hear a lot of non mainstream (✌🏼AM radio) music, ‘the charts’ can go to …..✨🫶🏼✌🏽
@@ReJoyce456 Ya there was a good dose of sexism too.....probably still is......but in hindsight......all those great musicians should have made this is big hit.......The Doobies and Little Feat! James Taylor......Dr. John! It's a remarkable list of credits.
Y’all would love her song, You Belong To Me. Similar vibe and she kills it
Yes indeed
Both songs were also written by Michael Mcdonald.
When Carly was a Doobie Brother ❤🎉
Carly and The Doobies colaborated on another song a year later, again released by both, "You Belong to Me", written by both Carly and McDonald.
This is a prime example of why it's ok to do covers of other artists. She owned it.
This whole album is really great. One of my favorites of hers. Carly's whole catalog is fire.

Their duet is better than his solo version.
@@cptight88 So? The Doobie Bros version is darker. Stalker - like.
I know Carly Simon from being a kid growing up in the 70s, she's amazing. But somehow I missed this!! Wow, really amazing. Thanks for reacting to it!
Always get the bumps when she sings the last "runnin'" and hits another octave and flattens it out. Baby!
Holy Cats ! Carly and the Doobies bringing the funk ! I LOVE her vocal here ! This has inspired me to work my way through her catalog - Cheers, friends ! ☮️
She not only sang well, but was quite photogenic 😊
Ck out the cover of No Secrets
One of the best covers ever!!! Great reaction, thanks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Took me many years to appreciate Carly Simon’s voice. Glad to see you including some more females in your lineup. 💜💜💜 Grace Slick, Melissa Etheridge, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Baez, more Heart & Joni Mitchell.
Wow many years? One listen for me! Glad you came around!
You probably need to include Carole King, to your list; one of the great female composers and performers.😀
@@MrRandyv she’s one of my favorites. Too many to name them all.
Yes, more female artists. Sandy Denny, Bjork, PJ Harvey, Kate Bush and Joni Joni Joni.

I never knew Carly sung Michael's song. Sounds awesome.💗
She ALSO co-wrote and performed You Belong to Me with MM
@TheDivayenta I did not know that!

Another great singer songwriter l love Caryl Simon I love you guys you appreciate all the great music of the 70s and 80s
Never heard this version, I love Carly, I like this more than the Doobie version
Good job on this song request, never heard it before. The instrumentation is so good, and that intro!

Love her so much
I really love this, it’s my favorite song by the Doobies. Caryl did a fantastic job, thanks so very much Guys!
Ha, we hardly ever see Che get so animated like this!! Love it & the song definitely deserves it.
That’s the way I’ve always heard it should be LIVE is a must listen
I think it contributed to keeping me single into my thirties. A Mythbuster song.
In the red dress, and Art Garfunkel and George Harrison are there.... Love that one...!

Carly is awesome, great pop star.
No argument. Gimme Carly!! Thank you Doobs. Tyvm too, La

Great stuff. I somehow missed this track all these years, and would never have connected her with this song.
I forgot how fantastic this version is … Carly’s voice is silk
This sounds a little like "Tell me something good" from Rufus.
Carly is a Love Child for sure.
Good version
You should do her live singing That’s the way I always heard it should be. It’s excellent.

Pure funk!!! Excellent reaction, fellas !!!
Damn never heard this one before it's nice ❤ a jam
Ted Templeman produced this song and the album it came from. He's also The Doobie Brothers producer.
Of the two drummers playing, the one doing the fills was John Hartman, Keith K was keeping the time
My favorite Doobie sister
😂
That was good I recently saw the Doobies in Dallas and they still have it 👍

So cool. Who woulda thunk.

Cool, I never knew this version. YES does a cover of America by Simon and Garfunkel on the Keys To Ascension live album is a peach

This is a Michael McDonald song- with Doobies- - and there are plenty of live videos of him singing it! Give one a try. ❤

Great voice. Not the only Doobie/Carly intersection.
Funky
I forgot about this song...
I adore Carly Simon. My favorite version of this is still Michael McDonald however Carly Simon is just a force.
I like the Doobies version best but this isn’t bad. I have actually never heard it before.
This is the Doobies playing and Carly singing. Personally I like the original version better but this one is funky.
Alternative to the Doobie/Michael McDonald version. It has a bit of a Little Feat vibe.
Never heard this version. It sounds like Little Feat backing her
Luv u guys, but its been 2 weeks since my Black Sabbath fix, next song should be hole in the sky! ty sirs
We had to give ourselves a little break from these full album reviews. We will get back to it soon.
You guys just did the Doobies version of this a few weeks ago. Interesting.
Someone requested this one in the comments of the doobie video
Ah, I missed that.
Thanks.
Well y’all are sure more excited about this one than I am. I’ll take the Doobie version over this any day. The guitar fills were nice.
Sounded pretty dam good in our headphones.
I’m fixed on the Doobies’ rhythmic approach to this song …heard (and loved) it too many times to adjust to another version very quickly.
@@hklinker I never liked the circus-sounding calliope noise in the Doobies' version.
How does her voice do that thing at 4:42?!
please, listen PACO DE LUCIA spanish guitar. Song "entre dos aguas". Incredible
like the doobies version better, but this is good
