So I just got involved in the knife community this year and am loving the hobby. Even though I paid $84 for the Delica I absolutely love it. No regrets at all on that one. Probably my favorite. I recently picked up a Salt 2 Wharncliffe in LC200N for $115 and it is great, too. I guess you could say it’s the same as a Delica wharncliffe with rust-free steel. I do love the wharncliffe blade shape and look, especially the curve on the spine when the knife is closed. No matter what, Spyderco has the products I like most. Thanks for your great videos. They have been a lot of help to me getting started and I appreciate your friendly approach 😊
This video makes me feel rather old. I still have my clip-it delica (the pocket clip is part of the FRN) in AUS-8 that's been put through the wringer and still looks decent. I picked it up way back in 2001 along with a spyderco Q for 100 bucks. I remember feeling a little uneasy about that price point back then and spyderco has compounded that with subsequent price hikes.
I'm a huge Spyderco fan and I have more Spydercos than anything else, but man, have they gotten out of whack with prices. Spyderco's whole thing used to be they never had the best materials or quality, but they had very good materials and very good quality and you got a lot of knife with a really good design for a decent price. They've really gotten away from that. I'm still buying Spydercos, but not nearly as many as I used to. I have a hard time recommending them to people except at certain price points.
@@knottheory79220 They still have some price competitive models. The new manix 2 sprint run in M390 and G10 is $147 for a USA-made knife. Compare that to most benchmades. There are definitely some overpriced spydercos as well though.
My gateway Spyderco was the Tenacious. Always thought that the brands look was ugly and impractical. Picked up the Tenacious for a good price and after playing with it and carrying it I went to get another model. Looked around and got the Endura with the WC blade. Love it so much I am going to pick up the WC Delica tomorrow. Thinking about looking into the PM series as well.
I'm a cabinet carpenter and I carry this exact knife everyday. It's a tremendous tool and the wharnny blade is ideal for my uses. I thump on it pretty hard and it never lets me down. I agree that an upgraded steel would be nice, especially as it applies to edge retention.
I just got the k390 Wharncliffe delica from knifecenter today in the mail! Right around $120! I am ABSOLUTELY in love! The value and quality is stoopid good for the price. 100% would recommend
Less than 2 hours ago, I bought my second Kizer mini Critical - G10 and CPM-3V - for $84. Same price as a VG10 and FRN Delica. Oh, I do love the Delica - in fact I have 6, tied for my most common knife with the PM2. What they need to do is make the Wharncliffe with better steel. Imagine a Delica Wharnie with K390 or any of the M390 analogues!?! She would be magnificent.
The Delica USED to go for about 55-60 bucks in 2011. Knives are one of the most visible places that I’ve ever seen inflation so clearly with the naked eye.
I've found VG-10 to take a great edge and hold it well. It may not be the greatest new powdered metal, but it makes for a great knife when heat treated and ground correctly.
love the endela in k390 Wharncliffe! The edge retention is amazing. I havent had to sharpen this thing yet and it's been through hell!! It's the perfect size.
they now have wharncliffe version of the endura. Hope they do one for the Police 4 LW, we need more big wharncliffe knives, preferably in K390 as well, that thing would be THE ultimate work knife
That being said, u are absolutely right about the pricing . But because Spyderco is a very popular brand they can still demand higher prices than others charge in the same steel. I get that
That weird, Ive been carrying my whippersnapper everyday for last month . Because the blade, I been looking for something cheaper to carry just in case. Fyi I like vg-10 but I got the dlt one in 20cv is the one ...
If you are going to buy a Spyderco Delica Wharncliffe I'd take a long hard look at grabbing the Salt 2 instead. Salt 2 ($124.25) vs Delica VG-10 ($88.20). $36 buys you a better blade steel and a more corrosion resistant blade. It's worth it to me but if you don't care about corrosion at all then the better blade steel might not be worth it for you. Salt 2 ($124.25) vs. Delica K390 ($123.20). The K390 Delica. This seems like a no brainer for me. The Salt 2 is heavily corrosion resistant while the K390 is known to have a rust problem. Salt 2 vs. VG-10 steel Delica: you are getting a better blade steel and more corrosion resistance with the salt but the
My favorite delica is my Super Blue sprint run. My most used knife is my orange vg-10 delica. The price is a bit high on them compared to other knives in the same range, but yet I don't have a problem with it. It really is just a great edc. The basic one is almost worth $100 to just on its legacy and history. You know exactly what you're getting into, it's essentially THE Spyderco to get first and that's worth something to people. I've yet to try a wharncliffe though. I've had a few different knives with a blade shape like that and I don't really know if it's for me. I do need to maybe sell something to grab a k390 variant before they're gone though. Then I'll swap the blade into my orange handles, or get a g10 set made up.
Got my Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe in M390 from the official retailer located in Finland. It cost me $118 and I would justify the price if the knife would be in a decent shape. Made in Seki Japan it has been "drunken master sharpened"! Edge was uneven, wavy, started way off the edge of finger choil! It didn't cut shit, not talking about slicing the paper. I've had to spend 2+ hours to resharpen it and correct that nightmare! I am absolutely positive on the idea that it is possible to do a better job for such a price for the small knife even in Japan. I've left a comment on the Spyderco page hoping that they are going to push some buttons or kick some butts, for nobody else would have to feel the shame for them just as I did today! Cheers!
A better steel makes a huge difference. I seldom carried the VG10 version (unless I'm in a situation where I want a easy to replace knife). However, the Cruwear version has taken a lot of my pocket time. What a great steel and super easy to sharpen. Also recently got the hap40 and 20cv versions that I except to be good for edc
Have the Hap40 version as well, some sites selling it cheap at moment as phased out. Viewers can find it checking google images, ithas the orange handle.
I paid $65 for a vg10/ blue frn delica yesterday. I live near the spyderco store in golden and went to do some last minute Xmas shopping. Hopefully my mom likes her new knife.. It was from a case of “box less” knives they had.. there were some other solid deals in there but having recently spent $400 on a crk which I kinda mean to be the last knife I buy for the foreseeable future, I refrained. Aside from picking up a black bug keychain.. but I don’t think that counts lol.
I got a dragonfly in Cru Wear from DLT a while back. I like it for a light weight, around the house or early morning pajama carry when I go get coffee on the weekends. But, and I wonder if this is true for all of these Japanese FRN spydie’s, the tip grazes the scales when I open it one handed. I have tried everything to fix this, but because of the way the handle is constructed it’s impossible to eliminate while still being able to open the blade one handed. So there’s a little scratch developing on the coated finish right up at the tip. Not impressed to say the least lol. So… I think that will be the only Japanese Spyderco I’ll ever buy.
Just found a Satin Wharny Delica with dark blue scales in 20CV for a few bucks more than the VG10 version! Still under $100 with shipping!!! AAAAAHHHH 😂😂 And to justify that to the wife, got her a Lil Native in satin s45vn with PINK g10 scales. Maybe I didn’t save as much as I thought 😂😅

VG-10 is not the best for sure, should be less expensive. This knife is a fantastic work/edc knife for me though. Easy to sharpen (when I inevitably over cut through something and hit metal), amazing blade shape, fantastic handle ergos. Eleven years ago.
Unless Spyderco stops making Delicas in Japan, they will not be $50. I think Spyderco is pretty loyal to their Seki City facility in Japan.

My stainless Delica with Aus6 is still alive and kicking, it doesn't get much pocket time but that's only because I have knives I like more.
I have the K390 Wharncliffe Delica and it works well for me!
