This is a great insight into using ASH, not only very informative and full of guidance, but the music is always top quality and very atmospheric too. I like viewing your videos equally for the music as well as the product - many thanks 🙂

Dude, thank you for this comprehensive walk through! It's the best one i've seen yet of this plug in. Liked and subbed 😀

    Nice video, Yish!
    Ash in our ears!!
At around 23:00 you mention stereo correlation being affected. I wonder if that partially explains my disdain for hyper compressed masters?

    • @Yishinyourear
      @Yishinyourear  ปีที่แล้ว

Could be. Especially if the compressor is not dual mono.

Great video and really helpful for clipping and prime reason Ash, thank you.
A few questions if you pop back:
    1) Why do you work to -10db specifically?
    2) What's your reason for the 2db clipping?
    3) Notice with kick is in stereo - why would you not use mono (curious)?
    4) Is the x4 the same as the -20db switch found in ie FireClip (from memory I may be incorrect here)?
    5) You seem to be matching the input/output prior to engaging the clipper - if you've already calibrated the audio channel to -10db whats the benefit in balancing the input/output to bring it up and down back to the -10db rather than leave both at say 0db and then clip? I have found myself doing the same - not sure I understand why?
    6) Generic query, notice you've a lot of Ashes on each channel whereas I was under the impression this is more for the master out. Why?
    7) What's you system specs - some nice acustica and zl loads in the rack :)

      Thanks much appreciated.
      1. Its just an arbitrary choice really, i could also use -6, but overall, its just a "gain-staging" choice, comfortably staying far away from my "audio interface's converter clipping".😁
      2. For the mix channels it could be more or less, for the Master, it seems to be the standard without destroying the sound.
      3. Its the way Superior Drummer defaults in Cubase when adding its separate outputs.
      4. It is as far as I'm aware.
      5. To keep my gain-staging intact. In to ASH at negative -10 , adjusted internally to Ash's required operating level: 0db, then readjusted back to -10 to stay within my gain-staging standard as well as not to disrupt the mix position that i set during the initial mix balance stage. This would be for any plugin that changes the gain of the signal.
      6. I'm using the clipper in a creative way on the mix channels(read as No Rules there.), but yes in most cases this would be used on the master bus for that last 2db push of gain and it seems to help with locking in good dynamic range for mastering purposes.
      7. SPECS: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor, 3800 MHz, 64 Gigs Ram, Audient D14 mk2, Windows 11.

@@Yishinyourear thanks for coming back. I'm finding quite often working at - 1db on tracks into a buss, ash shall be left on 0db or maybe a small adjustment ie -. 1db to - 1 ish. Previously I would be hitting - 5 or - 10 in ash. Ah well I shall keep experimenting.

That's my next move. Need those additional ins and out. The id14 mkII, though, has been good to me.

Random question, what Superior Drummer kit are you using here?
*EDIT: Nevermind, i saw it's the Reggae EZX

Yes and no, I swapped the actual drums out and kept some of the mixer settings from the reggae kit

Yep, they are literary 100's, if not 1000's of audio samples within it captured from analog gear.

@ its not, it's because of the bloated anti piracy stuff, only thing that's stopped me from buying acustica audio stuff
