Just as a general sort of tip regarding assembling the stretcher frame: take the four frame pieces and using a candle (that is big enough to handle, ie bigger than a birthday cake candle), RUB the candle on the front and back of the stretcher piece TABS (the skinny parts that are meant to go into mating slots in the adjacent pieces). Since these joints will be stapled and NOT glued, it is fine to rub a little wax onto them. They will then assemble MUCH easier.

Or a glue gun…good idea. Shouldn’t it be much tighter?
@@estjunkThe manufactured frame joints are typically very snug, so a parafin wax is going to work best.

I got mine at Joann's. Seemed to be the most budget friendly frames and solid craftsmanship

You can do whichever you prefer!
I would frame first. Once the paint dries and you go to frame it - the paint could crack. I wouldnt chance it
