I’m in mid-Missouri and it was absolutely insane, better than in May. I go out to a local bird sanctuary near the Missouri River where I have a 360 degree view of the horizon. If it weren’t for the moon being out we could have seen the Milky Way too! I got there at 9 PM and had the same reaction you did - trying to take 100 pictures at the same time from every location and angle. It was nuts!
I might have missed it but where do you find out about the possibility of seeing the NL in advance? I've missed seeing them a few times up until Oct 10th but only found out because of social media.
I have alerts on my phone using the Aurora app! You basically just put in your location and it won't bother you unless you've got a viewing chance in the area.
