This woman made me believe in music again. Without her, my own desire to entertain the masses would have faded forever. Thank you Amy Winehouse for giving me, back to me. I thought that part of me was dead. Now I know, because of you, I'm alive and well. I miss and love you for all time.

Here she is boys and girls, the immortal, Amy Winehouse. Hitting us with yet another monster of a song, "Valerie '68 version".. It actually sounds like it was recorded in 1968, the year of my birth. Perhaps that's why it appeals to me so much.? No. It's because, Amy Winehouse made me believe in music again. Proving to me, that big things really do come in small packages. Amy, you may be gone from our eyes, but, you will never be gone in all our hearts. Rest In Peace, my sweet Amy Winehouse. I love you.
With her music, style, & voice, Amy definitely would’ve been a superstar in 1968. Like Janis & Hendrix, Monterey & Woodstock would’ve loved her too. But also just like them, it was a self-destructive life that ended way too soon.

This was the first version we cut. It truly is the Dap-Kings sound, Mark Ronson then asked for the more up version which was the one he picked for the album which also came out great. This was the way we used to play the song live with Amy, The song was never actually mixed. It was just the ruff mix of the live take in the Daptone Records House Of Soul Studio. Check out the Dap-Kings with Sharon Jones to catch more of the bands vibe if you like this.
Really cool story. Which year did you work with Amy and Mark Ronson and did you work with any other of Amy’s songs? Definitely gonna be checking out the Dap Kings after this!
