Mac Mail - Can't SEND e-mail - FIX it!

- Not all versions of Mac Mail have 'outgoing server settings' in the same spot. However you should be able to easily find it. If you can't, google it :) Note: I've seen cases where the Mail app itself has corrupt data, so the only way to solve it is to re-install the app/Mac OS completely. In those cases, even with the correct settings, it still won't work.
Hey folks, I know the music is too loud but this video is 6 years old and I never expected anyone to watch it. That said, I'm very glad it helped thousands of people. If this didn't work for you then you may be making a typo when entering the password, incorrect server settings, or there is an issue on the server side that needs to be addressed by their support team.
The video doesn't show the finder toolbar. So the video needs to be fixed.

This is excellent. Clear simple instructions from the start - I literally watched the video once in bite sized chunks, paused and played the video following step by step instructions, done in about 2 minutes. My password worked on the second attempt -Thanks. 😍

I just deleted all my mailboxes and then set them up again. It took 10 mins to do 3 mail boxes - perfect result - you do need all your passwords though .

Thank you. I tried this, but without success. I then deleted the account and then added it back in. Still no outgoing mail. Then, went in and reset my password as you suggested in the Mail Preferences, Server Settings (Outgoing Mail Server) and it ultimately worked after about the fifth try. This occurred after an update on a very old MacBook Pro.
I suppose the bottom line to your viewers: don't give up if it doesn't work the first time. Walk away for a couple hours, reinstall the mail account, reset the password as directed.

Great vid bro-- we do appreciate the help. I had to go a step further and go to advanced settings of my email account and select a TSL certificate. I think part of my issue was Apple tricked me into selecting iCloud as the email server, and I unwittingly used it until I ran out of the free storage. They tried to sell me more and I declined. Then I could not send emails, and my passwords were not recognizable anymore. Anyhow I was grabbing at straws and found that my new Microsoft Exchange account (Hotmail is no longer available to add) did not have a TSL certificate. I chose on from the dropdown list and voila! My mail works again.

I’m not a computer expert but I would assume you do the same for your receiving mail server instead? Sorry for the late reply and you probably already fixed this already but I wanted to try to help 🙃

If this great tip doesn't work, try this- Mail, Settings- STMP outgoing server, change the out going port to 587 (also check the box TLS/SSL next to it) Mine seemed to have been reset to 25 -possibly when I updated my Mac Book Pro to version 13.3.1

Sadly, this did not work for me. After I click "save", a window comes up and says..."Unable to verify account name or password". I am receiving emails no prob, but I am not able to mail out. 😔 Any other suggestions?

Evan, I have this exact issue: able to receive, but not send on my iMac. Followed your instructions here. My iMac does not have a Server Settings tab, only an Advanced tab in the same place as your as your Server Settings tab. Any suggestions? thx

SOUNDS SIMPLE BUT WHEN I GET TO SERVER SETTINGS AND CLICK IT NOTHING FURTHER SUCH AS OUTGOING MAIL PROBLEM

Didn't work for me :( My password is definitely correct, I have two email accounts in my mail app and both stopped sending emails about an hour ago for no reason. It won't accept it when I put in the password - it says 'couldn't verify password'. All my emails are just sitting in the outbox. I can receive emails though.
Mine also says (offline) next to Outgoing Account name.
Just wondering how to fix because this is where I am

Hi Evan, I'm having trouble sending emails from one of my accounts... at the 1:11 mark in your video, my server settings menu don't look like yours. I have a drop-down menu with all my mail accounts but noplace to reenter the password of the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). Any ideas on how to fix it? The account is an AOL IMAP type. Thanks, Frank
