    You really know a lot about school buses. I worked at Thomas Bus in engineering for 13 years. We really could have used somebody like you in the quality department to make sure all the buses were in proper compliance.

      Thank you for your comment and kind feedback! Ooh, I think it would be very beneficial to have driver representation for feedback on the production of school busses.
      I would love to see that happen and would be thrilled to take part, if ever the opportunity presented itself.

    Just an observation, if you start the bus without your seatbelt on. In most states it’s an automatic failure during your test. Make sure you check with your local DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES. I like your videos, they are done as one should approach the task.
    To include testing, don’t rush you are in control of the pace.

    I think on the transit bus like that one the bluebird, do you have much more blind spots when backing. The reason I think this is because there is no lower window because there is no emergency door in the rear unlike a conventional school bus what is a larger upper window and lower window on the rear emergency door.

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the RE transit, you need to rely heavily on your mirrors. The exit door windows on conventional and dog house Bluebird, are definitely an advantage, when doing any type of maneuvers, particularly when backing.

    • @steamtrains2412
      @steamtrains2412 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchoolBusSass You still have quite a few blind spots do you?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With that particular type of bus, most of your blind spots are towards the rear or the bus, otherwise, you’ve got a great view from the front. I would say fewer blind spots on transits, for the most part.

    • @steamtrains2412
      @steamtrains2412 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchoolBusSass Oh Really?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Thomas C2 has huge blind spots. The connection between the windshield and where the windshield meets the drivers window, there is a metal frame, about 2.5/3 inches wide. It causes a massive blind spot. You need to really rock and roll in your drivers seat to look around before proceeding.
      There are definitely advantages and disadvantages to both.

    Hi How are you? My name is Tim. I also hold a CDL but mine is a class A for an 18 Wheeler. I drove for 12 years. I really enjoyed your pretrip review. How long have you driven a school bus? Also you remind me of my school bus driver from my childhood. She was really nice and fun to be around. I used to chat with her on the way to and from school when I was onboard. She was driving me and other students to school and summer camp trips too. Again appreciate your video. Timothy from Southern NJ.

      First of all, thank you for your comment and kind feedback. Both are really appreciated. I have been driving school busses for 20 years. I started driving up near the Cleveland area, and now drive for a district between Dayton and Cincinnati, Oh. It is so good to learn that you enjoyed your school bus driver growing up and you have many fond memories to cherish. It would be my greatest joy to know that when my students are adults themselves, they look back at their time with me and feel the same way....so, kudos to your former driver, job well done! :) All the best to you, Tim!

    What is the maximum number of people that can be on a school bus and how much does these buses weigh ?

    • @SchoolBusSass

      Well, it depends on the bus. There are sever different sized busses... 65, 72,77, and 84 passenger busses. I drive a 77 passenger International IC CE. When the bus is empty, it weights about 13 tons or 26,000 lbs and is about 38 feet long. The Blue Bird RE transit, is 40ft long and up to 33,000 lbs.

    Are there electric school buses and if so what are the good and bad things about it?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there are electric busses out on the roads. The biggest advantages to having electric school busses, would be in fuel savings, no emissions, and ultra quiet. The downside to the, all electric bus, would be the initial purchase investment, which is almost three times more than an ICE. A full charge will only allow for about 100 miles of travel, between charging. There are likely other advantages and drawbacks, I just do not have enough experience with the electric bus to know what they might be. Blue Bird actually brought a demo bus for us to take a look at. I'm hoping I will get an opportunity to drive it...even if it is only on our lot. Talk about quiet!

    If the school bus stop sign is not working, what is the backup plan for the bus driver?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the school bus stop sign stops working after the driver leaves the bus lot, they will use their override loading lights. This is a switch that bypasses the warning lights and goes straight to red. Then, get a replacement bus ASAP . If the problem is discovered during the drivers pretrip inspection, the driver would change to an alternate bus.

    • @sosexy9701
      @sosexy9701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you should never operate a bus if the warning lights not working. You should immediately pull over and call for assistance. Letting the stop sign come out without warning the drivers, could cause a disaster.

    • @SchoolBusSass

This is my fourth year with this particular bus, so I am very comfortable with it. I do, however, really like the Blue Bird transit busses. I prefer the dog house engine over the RE, but both are very nice and have great turn radius's. I am not a fan of Thomas busses, though they have great mirrors. I am not a fan of the International RE...lousy mirrors and horrible turn radius!

    I didn't see her start up the bus and made sure the air pressure warning light went out between 60-80. And made sure the gauges went back to between 120-125 , to make sure the governor cut out.

      3:00 mark a safe start is done and the air brake gauges are discussed at that time. The brake tests are conducted around the 6 minute mark.
