I love the little smile Charlie gives Nick when he was telling him about Imogen’s dog dying and Nick feeling sorry for her. I always interpret that as Charlie falling harder for Nick because of his kind heart. If you remember back to the first episode when Tori asked Charlie what type of boy he wanted to go out with, one of Charlie’s criteria was ‘kind’.
One thing I like occurred right after the Charlie/Tao convo in the bathroom. I lot of people have talked about how Nick was so nice to hug Charlie but I think a lot of people have it wrong as to why. Most think Nick hugs Charlie because he hurting. I think it was for another reason. Charlie could have stopped the grilling from Tao by announcing Nick was his boyfriend...but he didn't. I think that is the moment that Nick realized he can truly trust Charlie. This also leads to the public kiss that follows because Nick might have also realized that Charlie would always support him no matter what happens. Just a thought.
i see the hug Nick gives Charlie as an apology for making him say to to Tao "He's...my...friend" Cuz Nick knows that he wanted to say boyfriend but didn't cuz he isn't out. Probably one of the most emotional moments for me, i really love the non verbal stuff in the show.
The emphasis on good communication is definitely one of my favorite things about this show. I’ve seen critics say that it’s bad storytelling if the whole plot could be resolved by the characters having one good conversation - but in heartstopper, they actually have that conversation so they can get on with other stuff.
I also love that Nick never pushes Charlie away ❤ There’s a concept in the psychology of relationships called “turning toward”. Where in any difficult moment or conflict with a partner, we have the choice to “turn toward” them or “turn away” from them. And Nick is such a good example of “turning toward” every 👏 time 👏 even when he’s scared. Anyway, love your commentaries, I agree with so many of your interpretations.
I am glad you are back. If you want more Heartstopper content Tobie (Issac) has 9 vlogs of behind the scenes when you are finished with the series. I would wait to watch the vlogs until you are finished with the series because of spoilers.
There's a meme of Nick's mum walking past the window as he and Charlie are playing in the snow, and past him pasting hearts and rainbows to a picture frame for his gift to Charlie. Like. Nick, baby, you're not being real subtle. :P
Yesssss, I really thing Imogen gets it gets it in this episode! I love her for not asking about things, because I guess she feels he's not ready to come out yet🥰 .. What I really love about Alice's (the Heartstopper writer) books, is that she is soooo good in making the characters communicate honest and direct to each other. I could have learned a lot from that when I was in my teenage years, haha
I'm sorry that people are spoiling things for you in the comments. It's great to see someone reacting to this show with no prior knowledge of the characters and your reaction to Nick in the last one was completely understandable given that he seemed to be doing exactly what you feared. The episode even ended there, it was deliberately designed to make viewers frustrated!
I'm with you. When I first watched this show - I was always thinking the story would go one way - then it surprised me by not following the 'typical' gay tropes. I love this show so much! You're gonna love episode 6! :) Also, I have no hate for Imogen. She was just a teenage girl who liked a boy. It actually took courage to ask him out. Little did she know the drama behind the scenes. Hope we see more of her in season 2.
Really loving your Heartstopper reactions!! Totally support what you say about people needing to be mindful of the fact you're genuinely watching it for the first time. (Also it's actually so much better to watch genuine reactions, it's never as fun when you know you're watching someone's second-time-round 'reaction' to something.)
Glad you are feeling a bit better! 💛 and yes! I feel this is the episode that shows that shows don’t have to be drama and elevated to be good. Reality has enough drama and honesty too. 🥰
I think part of the reason people may have taken issue your comment about Nick saying yes to Imogen for the date was HOW it came about...if you remember, Imogene was literally peer-pressured by Harry and the boys to do it...then she did it...and that same peer-pressure pretty much forced Nick to say yes to avoid embarrassing Imogene. Peer pressure is VERY relevant...even more so for a teen. That was my FIRST reaction when I first watched the show (at the time I also had no knowledge of the webcomic either). But anyone giving you a hard time and being downright mean about it can kiss it. No room for those kind of toxic people.
Love your reaction! So happy you're back too! ❤️😍❤️ Totally get what you're saying about those comments, it's fascinating and a bit infuriating that people cannot step outside of themselves and see that you're just reacting in real time haha. And yeah love the talk about drama - the fact that you like most other reactors (and myself) keep being prepared for intrigue and drama and sorrow is so telling! I love television and will always be here for some drama, but I think it's good that ppl like us who consume quite a bit of it are reminded that sometimes the less dramatic can be so fulfilling, realistic and beautiful 💖
totally agree, i like that the show didnt do all the common cliches when it came to gay romance. usually they make such a drama out of everything. there was still drama here but it was done realistically and nick wasn't obnoxious or homophobic or being an ass lol
ROFLMFAO..."my dog died last night..." "OH MY GAWD!" Literally EVERY reaction video to that! It is so hilarious because it has been virtually a universal reaction! lol But almost none comment on how she goes from devastated and crying to perky about going to Nando's in a matter of 1 second. lol
I looove this episode. I wont spoil anything, just say that Episodes 2&5 are my favourite god tier Heartstopper episodes. Then episodes 3&1&8 are top tier episodes (in that order), 4&6 are mid tier episodes, and 7 is last. Not in terms of the QUALITY of the episodes (because it’s all so well written) but just how much I like to watch the episode.
The reason Nick said yes to Imogen is clear in the scene itself though? Like, Harry is standing right next to Nick, and he's commenting on the whole thing while Imogen asks him out, so of course Nick is going to say yes, that's not a spoiler, that's in the scene as it happens. And he explains in this episode of course, but it's all on his face as Imogen asks. :) Tao is not just angry though, he's so worried for Charlie, he jumps in between Charlie and bullies, mostly Harry, as much as he can, he's clearly very protective. And Nick looks to be great friends with Harry, so Tao doesn't really have a reason to trust him. I agree, I think that Imogen got what Nick wasn't saying, she understood, and then shows she actually is an ally even if she was a bit... let's call it insensitive to Tara and Darcy, by shielding Nick from Harry and his nosy questions.
Peer pressure sucks, even more so when you’re closeted in a situation that both Nick and Imogen were in. The problem that Tao worries about Nick is his associations with boys like Harry who pick on him.
Hello. I loved your videos and signed up to your patreon but I can't seem to view the vids there. I'm not sure if they are too high def (I have poor internet where I live) or if it is the format. Any idea as I would like to see your full video reactions. Also. I agree that people should not criticize your reactions as you do not know the future. That makes them genuine. Ignore the trolls. Keep doing you.
Oop! The Heartstopper Beehive got mad because you were slightly critical of Nick? 🐝🐝🐝🐝Lol. Oh dear. Yah, I think a lot of the fans obsess over Nick/Kit and aren’t fair enough to see that he’s not a ‘perfect’ character, he makes some mistakes along the way. That doesn’t make him a bad person, that makes him a confused 15/16 year old kid. Nick is very mature for his age, but he does screw up and let Charlie down sometimes. I appreciate that as you are watching it, you can be balanced enough to see that while still loving the character.

I thought the exact same thing!! the way he looked at him like “wow I love this boy.” 😭

I think maybe a lot of reactors miss that when commenting on this episode. It's the reason the title is "Friend."

P.S. I also love Nick’s mom and think their strong relationship is probably a big reason he is as open hearted as he is. I just want to be her, tbh 😂

Ooo where can I see this meme? 🤩
@@nomadine85 I'll try and look it up 😊
@@AnnekeOosterink Yeah I wanna see the meme too!
I just love the 'dramatically eats fri' moment. and the bloopers for that scene are hillarious, the two of them unable to stay in character

Hi happy birthday and my birthday was yesterday. I love heart stopper so much and show and the book.

Your shirt❤️✨❤️✨❤️✨❤️
Love your video reactions. Ridiculous that you should have to explain yourself at the beginning of this; the clue is in the title, people!
