This is the most detailed video on dog training I could find. Can you also mention the age of the dog when someone could start teaching certain tricks?
I absolutely love that you use Rottweiler puppies in your videos. I have two Rottweiler puppies that I am training now. They are 12 weeks old today and they are learning a crazy amount.
Most of the time my dog is more interested in what ever is making him pull ( people, cat or other dog) than my treats, affection or commands. How do I fix this? Thanks great video. Edit: just finished watching the video. Will be watching the heel position video. Thank you for the great information. Subscribed!
This is because the environment is to rewarding for your dog so it cancels out your reward. Your award effectively isn’t as good as the environment! You need to up the reward AND lower the level of excitement your dog has for a distraction by making the environment more boring. Do this by teaching lots of games, obedience and focus!! Be more fun than the environment :) hope this helps :)
I taught my puppy to wait the ok for eating, exiting the crate, or getting Toys. A way to teach focus may be to give the ok when they make the eye contact on you, rather than the food or toys.
My beagle pulls for so many reasons, mainly cause she's a scent hound who loves nosing around and meeting other dogs/cats/children 🙈 will have to give these other methods a go 😊
Definitely a beagle 😅 changing direction will definitely be a good one to start with for you I think! Change direction every time pups about to sniff the floor and reward when he looks up at you! Create the habit of checking in!
Will definitely try it 😊 she has gotten a lot better and I don't mind the sniffing so much but like trying these things for bonding too so getting her attention with this etc will be great 🐾 well done on the vid btw, keep it up! ❤️
Hi! My dog is super treat motivated. I think she's pulling because of anxiety and distractions. I'm going to try switching my leash hand and your treat giving technique.I've tried the other techniques and they definitely help. We're getting better all the time:)
Hey cristin! Ah you’re so lucky!! Having a food motivated dogs is sooo good for lead walking!! Use high rewards, reward him checking in to you alll the time at the beginning! Also use his dinner at home to teach that heel position! It always helps teaching the dog where we want them to walk! As always thank you so much for your comment 🖤
We got a 2 months old golden retriever home ( 12 days back ).. been taking care of it really well.. but for some reason it doesn’t get excited to see me when am back home from work .. but gets super excited to strangers .. can u pls tell why he’s not excited to see me ?
I have a 1.5 yr cocker spaniel, mostly pulls due to wanting to sniff every blade of grass, every leaf that blows and anything that moves 😂 he hates the lead but is great off lead. He is not treat driven at all, his ball is the only thing he will focus on. Any tips on using a ball as a reward? Lead pulling is the only thing I have struggled to train him not to do and it’s so frustrating
My dog can definitely tighten up on her loose leash walking I'm going to get your Technique could try hopefully it works better than stopping. Because it's been drawing out walks and making me late when I'm trying to get and a walk before I have to leave my home for the day
That’s such good advice thank you, will start immediately . We have a 4 month old cockapoo, can u recommend a collar or a harness. We’re using a harness at the moment but it doesn’t seem to have much effect on her. Thank you
Hi lee! It really doesn’t matter what you use. The most important tool is patience and persistence. It takes the time because we are trying to create habits against the dogs natural desires. Work really hard for a month and then check your progress! Btw I literally just use any collar or lead. It’s the training. I wouldn’t use a harness though it’s a lot harder to guide the dog where you want to go especially when changing direction and of course harnesses are designed for dogs to pull!
This is a great video - we just got a Rottweiler puppy and this explains how to motivate him on the lead perfectly. Am I able to ask what treats you use to train at all?
Heyy Kim! im so glad you enjoyed my video! of course!.. I use chicken, cheese, hotdogs.. I have a general rule of thumb when it comes to treats.. if I don't want to eat it.. its not good enough!!! please don't be a pets at home victim and spend a fortune on shitty treats your dog isn't interested in!! hope this helps! cheers for watching Kim!
Definitely! A standard collar is best!! It’s much easier to guide and control the dog from the neck than it is on a harness which is either in the middle of there back or lower chest
Ah thank you so much for this comment! I really appreciate it! I’m going to keep on making these videos, keep on helping as many people and pups as I possibly can and hopefully we can grow with a bit of time!! Again.. 🙏🏼
Is is a good or bad idea to purchase 2 dogs from the same litter at 8 weeks? Is it possible to train them separately, establish yourself as the alpha, while allowing the pups to enjoy free time.
hi, i have a 1 year old pup, his distractions are sniffing the floor and the other dogs, but our walks are very impossible because he pulls too much! i'll try to use your videos, thank you so much!
very very common distractions! you really need to work hard on preventing the dog from becoming fixated on distractions by using these techniques BEFORE your dog makes a mistake! keep up the good work!
Hey Erin! You get to this point when the dog fully, 100% knows the heel command on the verbal command without a lure! Because when you’re at that point the dogs reward is the freedom of walking and the alternative is you apply the tension and the dog no longer walks. We are conditioned the pup to enjoy the feeling of a loose lead. Loose lead = freedom tension = stop
We’re really struggling with our staffy pulling on the lead. When there are no distractions he heels really well and walks lovely but as soon as there’s a person or dog he pulls like mad. We’ve tried the techniques in your videos but still struggling. Can you give any advice or could we arrange a training session with you?
you need to organise some walks with another dog so that you can control the environment and teach the dog principles. its hard to teach in changing distracting environments! you need to set up the scenario you are tring to fix and repeatedly go through that scenario to show the dog how to act. time and patience.. but you can do it!!
Thanks for the advice. I found the 'changing direction' really made sense to me because whenever my horse would act up in the riding arena usually when I was working him in a straight line, I would then start changing direction every few seconds and it was then that he had to focus on where he was going and listening to me instead of focusing on trying to buck me off :0
Is it possible to train almost 3 years old Rottweilers who understands basic commands but is not very obedient outside and always pulls and lunges outside?
100%!!! It is definitely possible but it is not as easy as training a puppy! You will need patience! You need to figure out what your dog absolutely loves so he can work for that! I.e a nice bit of chicken! And then you need to slowly teach principles of obedience and slowly introduce distractions
Our dog is a collie lab cross, 7 year old and a rescue and he is awful on the lead. We have a harness and halter which has improved massively but he gets used to it then pulls again and I mean lunges forward. He's a full male and has to scent mark everywhere and a very anxious male that is not treat motivated at all. He fixates on cats, birds you name it and struggle to get him to focus on us because he doesn't bother with treats. He wasn't trained as a pup so I'm hoping the change in direction will help on walka
hey! i personally wouldnt use a harness as its really tricky to direct the dog when you change direction and use tension! also test out some new treats to see if you can perk his interests a little!
I have a question? How much food or treats can we feed these dogs during all this training? isnt that bad for the dogs stomach to keep overfeeding him treats and food ? I really want to know cause my lil pup has sensitive stomach and im just afraid to keep giving him treat after treat or his dry food as rewards every training session . He was only 4 or 5 weeks when I ended up w/ him (rescue pup) and he came with slew of medical issues. He is now much healthier and about 10 weeks old now ..Thanks
Heyy!! Thanks so much for your message! Also thanks for you other message helping that lady! No not at all!! Use the food the puppy would eat in a normal day! So no extra feeding needed! Just using their food is a fantastic resource! Also with treats I use real food not silly pet shop treats! You can’t beat real chicken and sausages!!!
no most definitely not! for me and any dog i train i like the dogs name to mean look at me.. just like with people.. if i want your attention i just say your name.. i wouldnt say "saphire.. LOOK AT ME!' haha name means eye contact. always.
I always feel embarassed and so exhausted walking my English pointer. hes 7 months and im trying so hard to train him to stop pulling and yanking on the leash! he literally drags me through the neighborhood! I really hope this video helps :(
Hi, liking to videos, I have a cocker spaniel bitch, she knows where the heel is and sticks to it like glue in the house and garden but as soon as you step outside the gate she’s a spaniel head down bum up, so frustrating. how should I combat this please.
Trying it all 🙌 I have a 4 month old Rottweiler who's very smart & sometimes a bit overexcited. The trainer in his current puppy class wants him to use a gentle leader.. I wasn't a huge fan of the idea though- currently he's in a flat buckle collar and only pulls when he sees someone or something he really wants to get to.. which can be a bit dangerous for me when the sidewalks get icy over here in Canada 😆
Oh wow! You’re so far away! I’m glad my video found you!! :) the most important part of teaching a dog to walk nicely on the lead is conditioning the tension! We need to help the dog become calm and We need the dog to respond to that feeling of a small bit of tension without conflict! You should take a look at my latest video as well as you see me actually go through the process with a dog that pulls!!
Hi. I have a huge problem with my puppy. He is 4 month old and he is something like shepherd crossbreed. I did all your techniques and it works perfectly at home and i did focus training really well on the outside too.. but leash walking is really really frustrating-he mostly doesnt want to walk at all he just sits down and dont want to move- when he wants he is ok and he follows good and isnt pulling.. but this sitting down is really starting to be frustrating and i lose my patience rapidly :( I really intensively worked with him focus and leashing at home for 1 month and i dont see much improvements Also he hasnt got anything which is super uber motivating him.. food works the best but he isnt all the crazy excited about it
hey! i honestly wouldnt worry! pup is super young so with a little time his energy levels should rise and youll no longer have this issue! also consider taking some higher rewards on your walk to motivate him! im talking chicken and sausages!!!
Deffo try the changing direction every time he looses focus then and really reward him when he looks up at you almost to say.. “why are you changing direction so much!?” But the changing direction when he loses focus, not when he eventually pulls but when he actually loses focus first will really really help you! Obviously really work on teaching the eye contact at home to :)

Treats and affection.
Another GREAT VID!!! You make such good points and articulate so well. YOU are clear in your mind on how to do it all. Such good stuff. ❤️
I’ve watched so many videos and this is the only one that I think might actually work! You should do tiktoks ☺️
Awe cheers Lexi! I have thought about doing TikToks! It’s just the thought of learning how to use a new platform that’s slowed me down 🤦🏻♂️🤣
Wow! I have literally just come to your TH-cam channel because I found you on TikTok! You did it! 🎉

i'm getting a new puppy in a week. i'm really trying to learn as much as i can to train properly. i like how this gives step by step what to do.

If I do this my dog will probably jump on me and he is almost the same of mty height
if your dog tries to jump just distract him with a treat and focus his energy on following that lure in to the heal position! keep him busy!!
LOT of anxiety... she's constantly scared of cars, bikes, skates, people, almost anything moving outside during walks
