This was a brilliant idea, and I'd love to see it turn into a series. My two suggestions, however: definitely make a better system to determine where the attack is starting from, and adjust the regions so they all have about equal numbers. New England had an advantage from the start.

To be honest I kinda preferred all 50 states battling instead of the regions but this was cool too
Maybe you could try marking capital cities of states, then deciding from that direction where to attack. It would also make naming the mega-states easier

This was going to be my suggestion. Could also take the arrow from the spinner and place it directly on the capital to get the direction accurately

New England winning and taking over the whole country...the Patriots are definitely saying, "I finally rest, and watch the Sun rise on a grateful universe". Florida Man was probably bribed by New England thanks to New England's spy Tom Brady to stay silent. That's why Florida didn't show its true strength! My favorite state, flag wise, is definitely Maryland. It's a masterpiece. Whether you like the Maryland flag or not, there's no denying that the Maryland flag is unique. While other states put their shield/coat of arms in the middle of the flag, in the case of Maryland...it makes up the WHOLE flag! It's the 17th-century heraldic banner of arms of Cecil, 2nd Baron Baltimore.
The black and gold is Lord Baltimore's banner (from his father, George Calvert 1st Baron Baltimore) and is also on the flag of Baltimore (though the Baltimore flag has the Battle Monument in the middle which commemorates the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812), while the red and white is called the Crossland banner and is from his grandmother. During the Civil War, Marylanders who sided with the Confederacy affiliated with the Crossland banner while those who fought for the Union wore the Lord Baltimore banner. The flag in its present form was first flown in 1880 but wasn't officially adopted as the state flag until 1904

New england has geographic advantages. These battles should bridge it to the great lakes area across the canadian border.
Seeing the Northeast rightfully dominate the country at the end warms my Northeast heart. With the attitude of NYC, Boston, and NJ when combined with the natural beauty of Maine, Vermont, and Upstate NY's Adirondacks, we're unbeatable! For future reference: NJ, NY, and PA do not like when you call us New England. We are not considered part of New England (as New York and New Jersey started out as Dutch, not English). NJ, NY, PA, Maryland, and Delaware are the Mid-Atlantic states. But a better name for the region in general including New England is the Northeast.
Bro I'm a Kansan who traveled to the Atlantic for the first time seeing my first ever ocean (I'm like 20 hours from both oceans), one thing I noticed which was sorta weird was that people in the Northeast just weren't as nice. I dunno how to explain it, they just more often times kept to themselves. While everyone in the Midwest where I've grown up, and in the South where I was born, just a lot more hospitable on average I guess. Not saying none of you guys are but yeah.
And before you say I didn't see all the culture, I actually went inside every state. From cities like DC Philly NYC and Boston, to the shores of Connecticut Rhode Island and Maine, to the rural areas of Vermont and Upstate NY and Niagara
Edit: If you reply to this, what are people from the Northeast opinions on expanding the region's borders to include Delaware, Maryland, and DC instead of them being South?
My reasoning:
1: They're all small areas like the rest of Northeast instead of like the South so it looks better
2: People from DC and Maryland act a lot different and more like Northeast than people in like Texas and Florida
3: Northeast has a lot of crazy population density being a big part, and those 3 states extend that population density while the South doesn't have that much stuff in such small areas like Northeast
4: And I think the reason they classify those areas as South is cause they were part of the Southern Colonies, but those were also the places that stayed in the Union during the Civil War
This would be a fun game to play with friends where each player is a region and they all play on the same computer and they all take turns spinning.

Give every state that border the region that was picked a different number, then use a random number generator. That way it isn’t too difficult to set up every round

Pretty close to the nine US regions used by the Census Bureau; the only difference is that New England and Mid-Atlantic have been combined.

you should make each region/state/country have a capital when you do this so there isnt confusion and you can just go straight from the capital in the direction of the arrow

That’s a good idea, although once you get to the big empires you aren’t necessarily going to be bordering the same states anymore, so the later you get in the the game the less useful the system will be. Most of the controversy is early game though so I overall it won’t really matter
