What is is Juraj Slafkovský's upside? And has your team ever had a prospect who took a little longer to develop, but became a star player?
Nail Yakupov😎👌(Avs legend)
Don't know but he's good for this team lol
Ohhh yaaaa
laffy 🗽
Evan Bouchard has slowly developed into an awesome defenseman not a power forward but love seeing how awesome he has become so far
I love how he scored his first career hat trick yesterday.
Enpowers this video even more.
Slavs famous last words after the draft when everybody wanted Shayne Wright * I Hope One Day Montreal Fans Will Love ME As I LOve Them*, we love you SLAV!!!

Lets not forget Leon Draisaitl got sent back to the WHL his first year after only getting 9 points in 37 games. Then got sent back to the AHL for 6 games in his sophomore season.
And it took couple of years to be a Superstar.
I considered it but MacKinnon has my vote as the "Finally he's what we wanted from him!"... mostly because he's a Canadian and also a first OV pick!
@@remytt4 Mac is another great example of it takes a few years sometimes. Now look at him. Might take advantage of mcdavids injury at the beginning of the year and win the scoring race
his coach, Marty St-Louis, had 2 miserable years coming in the NHL with Calgary and then it just clicked. 2 art trophee for the most points in the season. 9 years apart too
Rantanen went 0 in 9 games in his first year that was scary.Nichushkin took 5 years to become mature and he is not even fully there.
Nice example!! People have short memories
Passing on Wright was already a win for the habs in my eyes. Seeing Slaf play with so much confidence in the second half of this season makes his ceiling much higher than I first thought. If he could get his skating to the next level, watch out
Not gonna lie, I already forgot about Wright. Is he even playing for Seattle?
@@Taubogason.40 think he just got called up. Probably a good thing for his development to have spent most of the past two years in the ahl
@kvetch23he was ineligible for the AHL last year so he spent the season in the OHL playing against kids instead of being developed by Seattle. 11 career NHL games with 1 goal and 1 assist.
they shouldve kept playing him even if he was only 1 goal for 11 games, look at quenton byfield he was a bum in the league for years and now he is actually looking elite too. also look at laf as well he is finally showing what he can do and let me tell ya as a rangers fan i thought he was a bust for years
@@kvetch23 What Wright needs is ego-reduction surgery.
Montreal didnt need another smaller centre. They needed a skilled big man
we have our big bundle of joy Caufield #22
I think they thought they were getting that when they traded for Kirby Dach
@@Thrashman-ye4cfdach is an unreal talent way underrated... but he's yet to be healthy :(
Any one with a modicum of hockey knowledge could see with his level of play at the U18 Wright had plateaued. Like in most things, too many were blinded by the prevailing consensus. Independent thought is a good thing. More should try it.
@@raymondspruance I wouldn't say plateaued. I hate when people label young players as busts way too early, especially when people were saying it about Slaf, so I'm not gonna do that to Wright. I still think he could one day be a good player in the NHL, but definitely nowhere near what people were saying about him pre-covid.
Slaf's big pluses are his puck possession/board battles, and his maturity. Guy is looking amazing....you also forgot to mention that Slaf has played the 2nd half on the first line against the best lines in the NHL holding his own
Fr
He has also an insane shot which i think he should start to use more because his shots are pretty elite, he just prefers to pass more though
@@auri5459 thats why he need to play with 2 passer playmakers instead of being 3rd string on Caufield Suzuki line.
You could also add his vision and passing are elite. Watch the games where he sets up Suzy and Caufield. He always prided himself on being a great passer. The kid could have a Joe Thornton type career.

Seeing slaf play every night, and man this kid is going to be something special! He’s just learning how to use his size to his advantage! But his hockey iq is what really struck me this year, passes in tight areas and his ability to see plays develop is impressive! Mtl has a bright future
100%. I don't think anyone expected Slaf to become an extremely potent playmaker but what a surprise. His puck possession/retrieval is elite already, his playmaking is really starting to shine, his scoring touch is coming out, good defensively.
Absolutely a unicorn player. He's accomplished all of this at 18/19 years old, he only JUST turned 20years old this week. Tremendous growth from a young, physically gifted player. His potential is completely unknown but it increases every week. I can't imagine what he will be like at 25 years old.
As a side note, this kid is a Slovakian celebrity. The entire country follows this kid around, for many years now, because of hockey. The habs have a huge Slovakian fan base now. He lived on his own at 15 years old to play hockey. He's made to handle Canadian hockey pressure and Habs pressure at that.

Slaf is making us forget that Caufield is on their line
Tbf, Caufield has really upped his defensive game this season and is a reason why this first line has been so good.
@@philtess3126 Also... who the hell saw Caufield as being a really good forechecker? Dude is going into board battles non-stop now and hitting people all over. He went from a perimeter/floater style player to a gritty battling playmaker. The growth is Slaf and Caufield's game is incredible.
@@GuardMou they are becoming an unstoppable playoff style line
When slaf ended his Rookie season I was like everyone else wondering if he was the right pick and at the start of the season I even gave up on him a little bit but now oh boy was I wrong. I could see slaf as being a 75+ point power forward who has excellent goal scoring abilities. We love your massive unicorn here in Montreal
Low bar considering what he's doing at the moment. In the last 13 games he has 3 goals, 11 assists for 14 points. When you also consider that Caufield has under 25 goals and Suzuki has under 35 I think it shows that as soon as next year he will be an 80-90 point player. Obviously this is if Caufield gets his 40+ Suzuki gets 30+ goals and 40+ assists and he plays 75-82 games
@@4u2nvHock3y yes could very well be true
I would say a significant amount of Habs fans knew from his world cup performance he had the potential to be an elite scorer in the NHL, his game had alot of polishing needed but many fans are more emotional then logical when it comes to the sport and team they love
@jerryrikki9466 Na a lot of Habs fans really didn't use that and looked at his Liiga stats where he was at like 0.43 ppg
I've watched 100s of hours of this kid. I've been very much loving it. His growth is unmatched. He went from in this season pacing for 27 points in 82 to pacing for 66 in 82. Even if you don't look at his great level of growth physically and defensively. You still see that he's over doubled his offense. One season he had that much growth. Not to mention he's not afraid to get into the gritty area of Hockey. If the Habs have a scrum he's almost always there. Not to mention his backchecking is elite. To have that complete of a game and that level of offense to me screams Matty Tkachuk. When you look at the other 2 options for Montreal in Wright who probably will be like a Danault and Cooley who will be like a Forsberg. I think Montreal for sure chose right here
Your comparisons for wright and Cooley are clownish . No disrespect but soccer would be maybe a better sport for you
@andywest4134 Clownish? Shane Wright has been in the AHL for his whole career and the OHL. He's lately shown some strides in the NHL in his last 6 games having 3 goals and 1 assist but that's still at most a #2 two way center which is basically Danaults role in a contender. Forsberg is an elite skilled top line winger who puts up 70-85 points per season with lacking physical and defense. Pretty sure it's safe to say both those guys do fit those profiles.

Slaf’s unmentioned value is in his quotability. Hockey is a sport but it’s also a commercial entertainment machine, and slaf is ultimate entertainer. Even if he might not have countless 100+ point seasons, he will be a leader for generations - and with cole and suzuki they are building legend that will last for ages
Slaf is such an amazing guy/player love having him on the habs
Yeah man! Love Slaf. Everyone kept piling on the kid. Thankfully some of us were in the mindset of give the kid time. And that paid off big time. I’m so glad they took him over Wright. When he tried to stare down the Habs table… what a punk. Slaf all the way.
Rooting for Slaffy and Laffy this year
slaf is why i have become a montreal fan imma be so real. i was drawn in by all the buzz but i stayed because of both his personality and his ability to just GROW. like every game he gets better, and it literally makes me feel proud when i watch him 😭😭
people have been so hard on him but they're comparing his growth and game to that of players who are no where near his same build and height - of course hes going to play and grow differently, its comparing apples and oranges - and the people who classed him a bust instantly are either dumb, never actually watched a full game of hockey before orrrr were just doing it to ride the hate train. either way, slaf is not a bust in my eyes because hes shown that he can work hard , actively contribute to games when hes needed the most and, most importantly, that he can/will continue to elevate and grow his game
I was super high on Slafkovsky and wasn't happy when a rival team drafted him with that frame his ceiling was very high from what I saw that draft year. Wasn't surprised to see him have a slower start because of his frame and weight the bigger players can sometimes take longer like we've seen with Brady, Byfield, etc. Your analysis is bang on and seems like people just assume teams see the big frame and just draft players off of that but the teams see the big potential of that player with that frame especially in the playoffs
I was watching this while playing CHEL and as they were talking about this Juraj Slafkovsky scored on me... guess he's good!

In another couple years once he develops some more along with the rest of the young team around him, he's gonna a key part in leading them back to the finals and maybe even win it all. He has the grit, the size, the skill, the hockey IQ, the determination and the mental maturity it takes to go on a deep playoff run. The only thing left that he needs is time
You're becoming the ''JxmyHighroller'' for NHL. Love this style of video. Continue your great work!
Thanks for taking time to shame the haters
haha!
Thanks for showing Lawson Crouse some love. One of my favorite Coyotes, he does it all. I think he could score even more if he got more offensive zone minutes.
ive seen everygame of the habs this year. even on his first half of tthe season where point we not coming in, you see how dominant he was going to be specially along boards and in puck possesion and how everything was coming along in his toolkits. Easily the best forechecker on the team and the dude is a straight up beast physically and mentally. You think montreal pressure is bad? He is probably the most famous Slovakian and the whole country is fallowing is every move lol
Solid analysis!!! Thanks, bud!
I always wait until 23-24 to decide if they are busts. Hopefully this draft the habs can pick up lindstrom in whl, need another big, skilled guy
Anyone who said Slaf didn't have the hockey IQ wasn't paying attention.
The question was never about his IQ, it was always about his stability, balance and his skills in general.
In his rookie season, he didn't seem to be able to stay up, he didn't show much of a shooting ability, he wasn't quick, always behind on the play.
It wasn't a matter of IQ because anyone who was watching could tell the kid was paying attention and his positioning was decent for a rookie. And his work ethic is absolutely unmatched.
Something changed about a month into the season where suddenly he went from out of his depth to dominating. And I don't use that word lightly. Slaf has kept producing at higher and higher paces as the season progressed and his poise, vision, and power have become anchors of his gameplay.
Kid's gonna be good. REALLY good.
Slaf is learning a TON from Goal and Little Nicky. They have GREAT communication with each other.
Ive seen his potential from the start aswell, people love talking shit about the habs players, but the truth is with Guys like Suzuki Caufield Slafkovsky Dach Roy Ghule Xhekaj Mailloux Hutson and dont forget Fowler the future is bright like solar flare bright
Always an excellent video Rob. Thank you sir!
I still see the upside in Podkolzin. He hasn’t been putting up points, but his strength and defensive game has gotten night and day better
Great video Rob. Thanks.
Rob you are doing really a great job! Keep up doing it! 👌

According to Jauraj himself, he's just getting started. (recent interview on a point streak). At this point... I believe him
Great video on Slaf. Both of them
I'm still waiting for Kakko to develop 😂😂😂
Lmao that ending is hilarious. Talk yo shit Rob!! People wrote off Byfield quick and he's looking like he's going to be the face of the kings's franchise, and even a star in this league.
I like your theory and I totally agree with it. The Wings have a couple noteworthy BIG men in their system right now (Fwd Elmer Soderblom - 6' 8'', 255 and D Simon Edvinsson - 6' 6'', 215). Soderblom is the typical long and lanky player that looks like he will be quite awkward on the ice, but he has some really NICE stick work, and actually has a nice stride. Soderblom was chosen at #159, so, NOT close to first overall, but I really suspect he will one day show Yzerman's brilliance in choosing him.
As a Habs fan I need this reassurance lol
great analysis
Huge Habs fan here. Real fans, and those who knew hockey saw his potential. I kept telling everyone “wait, give him time”. The irony that people called him a bust and now he is breaking franchise records, playing top line minutes in just his SECOND NHL season. He’s gone from a bust to quite literally the opposite of a bust in one season. His potential is endless, he’s going to be a real stud.

Anyone comparing this kid to Yakupov needs to slow down a minute and really think about that before hovering the cursor over "Comment" and hitting "enter". Don't get me wrong, I know why you do it, but the thing is that you're not half as clever and cutting as you think you are. On the other hand, maybe keep doing it, because I could get used to videos ending with trolls being roasted.
Another solid video, man, keep it up. Keep using the troll comments as fuel, you're doing good work.
Troll lives matter
the only Yakupov was Wright i dont think hes ever going to be "worth" a 1st rd player
Great vid!
ceiling as high as jagr-esque
got to watch S.Wright at the now renamed "Slush Puppie Palace" in my hometown of K-town.
If you watch habs games you will see slaf consistently making an impact in the offensive zone, it feels like every play he is involved, and this top 5 they are building atm with the 4 pieces of slaf, caufield, suzuki and matheson feels like its only getting better and better with every game
I’m not even a hockey fan, but these videos are so good I might be becoming one
Besides his obvious physical talents the thing that is going to set Slaf apart from others is his willingness to learn and his drive to win .
What a vid bro 👍🏼👍🏼
he will be a star in a couple
Dude gonna be a legend in mtl I have arbers jersey going for juraj's next
First HAT TRICK vs Philly!
Full credit to Hughes/Gorton here. I swear if you polled Habs fans on draft day Wright would have been this pick. Slafkovsky will be a game breaker for them for many years.
Slav - Suzuki duo is criminally underrated because Montreal is in the Tank and people look at point totals to evaluate talent. Both can make plays, both can score. It's a nightmare to defend against. Both can force the defense to over commit, giving the other more ice. Once Montreal has more forward depth (including a healthy Dach) and some of their offensive defensemen prospect mature and join the team, these two will have even more space to shine. Imo, Montreal and Anaheim are the two trains people need to hop on now !
He did well during the camp with Dach and i saw something like in the Olympics. Not like scoring 1 goal a game but good stuff, Dach is really good but that's another story. When he started, he was all instinct, at 18 y/o. That's not the case anymore and he got real potential to be a key asset to any team.
shane wright revenge era incoming
3 goals tonight 🫶
Just like you, I had said from his first season that once he figured out how to use his size and strength, he'd be able to become a modern power-forward. He has good hands too, he was just shy in his first year. Like he was too worried about losing the puck with a fancy dangle. He's hitting his stride and will definitely be a regular 60+ point scorer. Regular all-star? Not sure, but definitely a player the team keeps long term. Will be part of Montreal "core-four" along with Suzuki, Ghule and Caufield.
He's insane. Last year he was falling on the ice all the time. I think he just never had to use his body... But this year, he's impressive. He win a lot of battle over the board, create some space for his team mate and of course, he's very skilled. He have a really good vision, good shot. It was a good pick for montreal. They told they draft the best player to be in 4-5 years. But he's already impressive... He just turn 20 years old... god!
Just looking at that European hockey... holy adverts, batman... And I thought the London Knights were bad...
Great player who will have a long, successful career
You did not mention another key factor is that he's playing far far from home learning so many new things that he has to adjust too. These of ice things also contribute alot to his development.
I remember back in the day. Scotty Bowman was not a big fan of Guy Lafleur. There were also some fans that were impatient with Lafleur. Bowman asked Sam Pollock more than once to trade Lafleur. Pollock kept telling Bowman to be patient and Lafleur was going to be dominant. You see this all the time through the years with different players. Slafkovsky is a different type player than Lafleur. But he's going to be an important cog in the machine. I kind of laugh when I see how big some the guys are on Vegas, Tampa and Florida. In the playoffs size matters.
Guy's career took off once his helmet came off
Canucks fans were screaming « busts » from the rooftops for the first 3-4 years of the Sedins careers too…
Exactly ahaha
Haters catching some heat at the end. Love it.
Wait when he shoots more his shot is underrated
Now people will just keep their flapping mouth shut about Slaf!
I was the first to say "Calm down! He's 18-19! He came from Europe/Scandinavia hockey which is not the same!! Give him time to adjust!"
And now there it is... He's getting better and better. I'm not saying he's gonna be a SUPERSTAR but a good 1st liner or a great 2nd line potential.
This kid wants to get better and has so much maturity!
I think he can become around a ppg guy, that’s just a menace to deal with. He could score well and also give opposing top lines big issues
Can’t wait to see Brady play for US in the Olympics
Dude the Golden Eye music alone is enough to keep me comin back. 😄🫡
Happy to be wrong about Slaf. Not all first are generational, but he's definitely not a bust. Habs got a rare gem indeed.
Great analysis. Golden Eye music cherry on top! Subbed

I definitely notice him when he plays against EDM. Look at big Boy in LA. He is looking much thicker this season
Ca sent la coupe esti!
I remember when everyone hated that Vancouver picked Pettersson at 5th, I was like chill lets see how it plays out, same with Jack Hughes, point being they're kids when they are drafted wait till they are like 25 and hit their prime
As a hockey fan, and Avs fan, I've learned to be patient with 90% of the prospects out there. Makar is a generational talent, yet they drafted Bo Byram after (at #4). I believe Byram will go off with the Sabres.
A lot of it is timing as well as the franchise they play for.
Slafkovsky may have benefited from a stint in the AHL last year, now he is growing steadily with the Habs. Two years from now you could see him as a point a game player.
Slaf just turned 20 last week. He plays with a 23 yo Caufield and a 24 yo Suzuki. All three can score, but all three have more assists than goals. Imagine in couple of years
I mean even Rantanen played only 9 games in NHL on his draft year. Second year had 38 points in 75 games but after that over point per game every season and one of the best players in the league.
People have no patience. Just give young players the time to find their way. Sometimes it doesn’t happen. And sometimes a 1st overall doesn’t have to be a hall of famer consistent 90+ point producer to be considered a good 1st overall pick. If you pick up someone who contributes on the top lines with around post per game production and makes your team better then what else could you ask for
Love your work, Rob, but do me a solid and turn you mic up. Thanks in advance.
Sometimes trades work out, like Cam Neely, RIck Vaive, so busts don't stay busts. A lot of busts are due to injury. Joe Thornton took 2 years. Many busts lack hockey sense, or willingness to play close to 200'.
Gary Bettman will make sure we never see the likes of Cam Neely, Rick Tocchet, Eric Lindros, Wendel Clark, Gary Roberts, etc.
I hope the Habs go long on Slaf this summer. Bet big on him BEFORE he's had his big 30 goal 80 pt + year in year 3 or 4.

Joe Veleno of the Wings was also granted Exceptional Status and it has felt underwhelming.
I agree with the delayed development. You cant teach size but you can skill. These players lean on their size when playing with smaller players. The NHL has size and skill. Some it just takes time to connect that size with skill.... time.
Oilers fans are a trip, and most of them have a complex of some kind lol
I feel that slaf is the start of the new managements philosophy. The 1st player drafted after letting Trevor Timmins go. Jeff gorton knew not to buggle that pick.
Especially with the last 2 pick in the top 3 being massive dissapointments to say it nicely... Kotketniemi and gally

I think a lot of folks give him the stink-eye simply because his formative years weren't televised like McJesus, like Chicago Bedard, like the Hughes Trio.
