I see some really good pieces to the puzzle and an improvement overall. “Crazy good” might be a bit of a stretch.
Yeah their future is wild to me I mean I feel the same w my team the Blackhawks the future is looking bright for sure just a few more years of struggle and hope for the development to pay off

Ithe Canadians are my favorite Canadian team but Canadian markets always overhype every player. Or simply their positive production gets more press. Be careful when you predict a Team to be contenders with certain players . Chances are that if Montreal is a true contender in 3-5 yrs that lots of the players being billed now as total studs wont even be part of said team.

I believe we still haven't seen anything from Slafkovsky yet. That kid's ability to adapt is scary. His competitiveness and disdain for losing is contagious. I think the kid is captain material. indeed, 2nd overall pick after Mattews 2016, an elite sniper, expecting some great shots in Ovechkin's kitchen, on the power play, just loved this trade, feel fairly confident Laine has his best years ahead of him( just keep him off XBox;-))
He’s not completely low risk if he only gets like 40-50 points 8 million is a lot
Year 1 is the "lets see how he does year" and if he underforms we only have to deal with it for an additional year. Could be alot worse @matthewgreen9799
8.7 million for 2 more years meanwhile they aren’t even expected to really contend in that time frame, so it won’t hurt their chances once they’re developed enough to make a cup run.
Veteran player, I think he's gonna enjoy being a NHL pillar amongst all the young and very talented player
Nice to see Habs videos from non Habs fans, good to see others are also thinking the future is bright here. Honestly, you have to go back to the 80's for that feeling... the terrible drafting started in the early 90's, if not late 80's. The only stud they drafted in the 90's after Koivu was Markov. But now with Suzuki being 25, Slaf, Cole, Dach, Demidov, Hutson, Guhle, Reinbacher and Mailloux all being 23 or less, it's about to get fun in Montreal..!!
Congrats on getting married!
Don't forget Kovalev but you're right, it's been an eternity since we had a strong team beside goaltender
@@EP-zl3gj ...I'm not forgetting Kovalev, he just wasn't relevant to my point. Don't forget they got Kovalev when he was turning 30 - he wasn't bringing a bright future, he was making the present exciting. He wasn't drafted by the Habs, so why would I bring him up when I'm talking about the future being bright?
11:40 Montembeault also is a really good starter. While not being spectacular, he's really technical and doesn't let in soft goals. This constance is all you really need. Probably one of the most underated goalie right now.
On the other hand, players like Reinbacher, Mailloux, Hutson, Demidov, Newhook and Dach, while having high ceilings, have not yet proven anything, but it is fair to assume at least some of them will be really good nhlers
Dach and newhook have proven that they can be reliable middle 6 guys going forward. Newhook will never be a top line level player, but that's not why they brought him in. Dach could be a really productive forward, but he could be useful even if he stays at 50 points pace. They are part pf the depth the canadiens are trying to create upfront. With the arrivals of Roy, Beck, Hage and Demidov in the nect years, this depth will increase and if each of them signs a good deal long term the team will have solid pieces all around. They may still lack the superstar center they desperately need, but they won't lack anything else.
Monty has a gigantic and I’m talkin career deciding year this year. If he still looks like the streaky inexperienced started he has the last two seasons; Habs will have to delay the rebuild to when Fowler or Volokhin is ready or splash in free agency (which I doubt they’d do)
@@sugasmotempton3295 He didn't look like an inexperienced goalie last season and was consistently in the top 10 to 15 in all major goalie stats

Overrated but they have a good core
Great video. You showed those outside Montreal why we are top dogs. When we get into the playoffs, lookout, we're always looking for the Cup. No other team has the same ability to turn it on come playoff time. No one's even close.

Congratulations Rob... 🎉. Keep up the good work with this channel.
I keep beating this drum over and over, I've beaten it for at least two years now; nobody, not even Habs fans like myself, know the true potential of a healthy Montreal team. I can well see them take a massive step forward this upcoming year, to the point of contending for a playoff spot all year long (though at the end I do think they'll miss out by just a smidge) on the one condition that they remain healthy all year. And after that? Let the floodgates open. There will be a very real cup contending window in the next several years, something the Habs haven't seen in far too long. And it's gonna be GLORIOUS.
Also, congrats on the marriage my dude!!
Habs will be nowhere near the playoffs this year lmao Dach is the only roster change from last year. I do think the future is very bright tho but playoffs and cup aspirations are still def still a good 3 years away.
@@theclaffy1842habs lost at least thirty 1 goal games last year … you don’t Think that having a healthy Kirby Dach and a full season of Newhook would have changed the scenario ? Tiny weakling players get injured. This will not change. The HABs need at least 4 solid defensemen to be competitive.
@@m____w____6981”tiny weakling players” ok buddy🤣
They are smart in they rebuild, they didn't try to accelerate too fast like ottawa, detroit or Buffalo.
Yzerman has in no way tried to rush Detroit's rebuild, you don't know what you're talking about. He hasn't traded 1 piece of the future for a short term rental, even at the deadline when playoffs were in reach. Wings farm system one of the best, they are a sleeping giant!
Proof of this is us playing Dadanov on the first pp unit for an entire season just to get good return at the deadline. (spoiler: it didn't work out lol)
@@jamiecain779Sorry, but Yzerman signed Copp, Compher, Holl, Chiarot, Kane and Tarasenko, and with somes of them with long-term contracts, and all of that for being more competitive for the playoffs with Larkin.
That’s exactly the way too rush your rebuild, especially when the two only legit young players on your NHL core right now is Seider and Raymond (who are also considered both of them as somes ‘’franchise players’’ when they are far for being that). You need to wait a little bit more years with adding one or two more young high-talented players in your NHL roster before thinking to be little bit more competitive.
Also consider Boston, FLA, and TB are all facing a closing cup windows. That should allow teams like Ottawa and Montreal, with their young rosters, to climb to the top of the division and make a run. Ottawa always finds a way to fumble opportunity, but Montreal might be the team that finally returns Lord Stanley north of the border.
Rob banger video as always don’t even have to watch it yet
Montreal has bet on its young player develeoppement with St. Louis as a coach and Suzuki as captain. Its not about having a lucky superstar first round pick. I really like the core of the Canadiens
The hardware and numbers Carey Price was able to put up while going his entire career without a single PPG player on his team is just insane. Another reason why I think prime Carey Price is THE no.1 most skilled to ever put on set of pads. Wish he got his cup in 2021
Ken Dryden is the best ever, single handedly won the Stanley Cup in 1971 most incredible goal-tending ever. Won the Conn Smthe and the next year won the Calder, that will never happen again.

I live in montreal. habs are terrible and I love it
@@t2av159ok 👍
@t2av159 you don't know the game, clearly.
13:35 in my opinion, Gallagher's contract isn't bad because it's like a payback. While the habs weren't rebuilding, Gallagher took paycuts and did many sacrifices for the team. Now that they had money ( they didn't have big contracts cuz they had many young players), they could pay him back for what he did in the past.
It is objectively a bad contract because he is a 4th liner making high-end 2nd/low-end 1st liner money. Paying someone for past achievements instead of present and future capabilities when the salary structure is capped is a terrible business decision. This is a competitive business and giving out contracts on emotions is incredibly stupid. That being said, his contract isn't actually hurting us cuz we are rebuilding anyways.
@theclaffy1842 being known to reward loyalty isn't completely terrible.
It's a bad contract, but I'm not going to bad mouth Gallagher ever.
And in cap NHL times, you can't reward with salary. You'll get in trouble.
@@theclaffy1842 It's not "objectively bad" when folks can offer a different and defensible perspective. We're going to start forgetting what objectivity even _is_ if we keep carelessly abusing the intrinsic meaning of it.
Just a pet peeve of mine...back to the topic at hand.
Honoring loyalty and hard work might not be a fantastic 'in the moment' business decision, but observing how teams humanize their contracts is something that players do and reconsider before they sign the dotted line. If Montreal wants to attract and keep top talent for years, then those players need to be able to look beside them and see the players that have already done their tour of front-line duty being treated with respect and dignity and NOT getting cast aside like yesterday's garbage. It matters.
At the risk of patronizing you, I wonder if you remember some pretty lean years a few years back when Gallagher was the heart and soul of this team and fought for every scrap of production he got. Around him, players magically got better. Lead the team in goals for two years and was not a league all-star only because Carey Price.
Anyway...is it a good contract? No. Is Gallagher everybody's favorite player these days? Probably not. But I think there is a pretty solid explanation why the Habs keep him and honor his back-loaded contract despite the fact that he has (objectively!) lost a step.
@@bradmorris5797 There was nothing patronizing or disrespectful in your response and you put some time and effort into it so I will do the same with my rebuttal. I say the contract is objectively bad because a contract in the NHL is, by definition, given for the players FUTURE X amount of years. Whether or not he was overpaid or underpaid on his last contract is irrelevant. Both parties agreed at the time that the first contract was acceptable, signed it, and that's that. The manager's job in the salary negotiation the the next contract is to project the player's value in the future DISPASSIONATELY. The fact that Bergevin was choked up in the press conference announcing the new contract and talked about his past contributions to the team and what a good soldier he was etc. as justification for the contract is all the evidence needed to see that a lot of it was based on emotions and past behaviour, and not on projecting Gallagher's (extremely obvious and predictable) upcoming decline which had already begun by that point. Your argument in the first paragraph about treating players with respect etc. shouldn't be done by overpaying them. It can and should be done in other ways that are not a detriment to the team in a salary cap league. It wouldn't have been disrespectful to offer Gallagher a contract that reflected his projected future value as that is the what all contract to all players should do. Everything you said in your second paragraph is indeed a solid explanation for why the contract was given, but the explanation only references things that happened in the past, when he was on a different contract. I agree with your explanation for why Bergevin gave him that contract, but it doesn't justify it whatsoever. Bergevin let his emotions control him rather than the cold hard facts, which a business manager should never do. If Gallagher insisted on a salary that was too rich for his projected future role on the team, then Bergevin should've simply let him walk and let another team pay him too much and be saddled with that for years. It wouldn't have been disrespect, it would've been a savvy business decision. You said that people can offer a "different and defensible perspective" on whether the contract is good or bad. You are correct that people can offer a different viewpoint and can give a reasonable explanation for why the contract was given, but, as I attempted to prove in this response, that position is, in fact, indefensible. In summary, Gallagher is being paid 1st line money for 3rd/4th line production; if the Canadiens (and even probably die-hard Gallagher loving fans) had the opportunity to cancel his contract right now without penalty they would 100% do it. You even said "Is it a good contract ? No." Hence, the contract is objectively bad. Anything else is just noise.
"brayden point, so the point is" spoke like a true poet😂

When I wanna have some fun on my offtime with... the grass... I just go onto Twitter and talk shit to Ottawa, Philly, Toronto, and Winnipeg fans because they HATE us. 😂
With Ottawa a lot of bad blood came from the Stutzle & Gallagher stuff, and Xhekaj in the preseason.
Philly because we have been giving it back 10 fold for the Michkov harassment.
Toronto is self explanitory.
Winnipeg fans are kinda weird, they got mad at us for the sweep in 2021, PLD trade rumours the first time. The fans were still upset enough that they spammed "Monahan wont get a 1st back." Then got even more upset when he did get a first from Winnipeg themselves, and Habs fans made them eat shit.

Rob Talks Hockey says... Montreal has the cap to sign that one free agent. I think they have done it with the trade for Patrik Laine. Amazing off season by Kent Hughes. Montreal is turning out to be a model franchise with the right coach in Marty St. Louis. The players love playing for him.
Going to come back here when the Habs start pushing for Cup contention. A sleeping Giant indeed.
The Habs have some unbelievably talented prospects, and signing their young core is perfect. Genuinely within the next 3-5 years they will be SCARY scary.
The Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi drafts were not rebuilds. Just the team being bad one particular year due to several issues and picking high afterwards. The only real legit rebuild they had basically started with Bergevin's departure.
Media kept saying in the past that the fans won't allow it. I personally have prayed for it since back in 2012. But the Habs never committed to it. It's funny how okay the fans actually are with a clear and clean rebuild, with competent management.

I have Montreal as my 2nd wildcard team this year.
You forgot to mention the lack of PPG scorers in Montreal during the decade prior to 2014 and beyond. I mean, there's a reason Jose Theodore won the Vezina despite having pretty bad stats on the surface.
Loved the video but I don't know if Caufield is gonna be that 40 goal guy though. After his shoulder surgery, he's had trouble scoring and had more difficulty with the puck because of his small frame. He wasn't the sniper he used to be last year, maybe just a slow year though who knows
Wouldn't lose hope in Caufield yet. Speaking from a bit of experience - it can take a couple of years to get a serious upper body injury back to normal, but it eventually returns to old form.
Broke my wrist in my junior year of basketball. It hurt to shoot (not to mention lift things!) for a solid year and a half thereafter. It was probably a good two years before I was able to stop thinking about it every time I lifted my arm.
But truth be told, I was never a better 3-point shooter than I was 4-5 years following the injury.
My point is, Caufield has plenty of time in a very young body to adapt from injury. Dach is in the same position. Both of these guys just need to get some therapeutic time between them and their injury to get their minds back into the game to the point where there is no more compensatory action.
Congratulations!

But I think we're ready now, give us scoring, gives us the plays and the homerunners...we will live with the turn overs for a few years even if it means a few crushing defeat and hopefully eventual success.
Rob - "every team at some point has to do the R word"
Boston - "what does that mean?"
People were saying the same thing in Detroit back in the day. Such a solid program that built a contending team year after year, maintaining core strength for a very long time. Boston has some claim on that now, and it is certainly an enviable position.
But the day will come sooner or later when a mix of bad injuries, un-lucky picks and/or lottery, eroding culture and expensive contracts converge to force the issue. I've got nothing against the Bruins and they still look strong, but don't kid yourself.
the habs record for most goals in a season by a player dates to 76-77 with Shutt and Lafleur at 60 goals. that's how long it's been.
All we need is one 50 goal scorer and players to stay healthy all year and we could see some magic baby.
We also. Have mailloux who's improving a lot in the ahl
