He added one chili to each bite and said it was "a little kick", I would finish the entire cup of tea before I finish the bowl because of the spiciness lol. Still, amazing work from Mark and Ying. Thank you so much guys! 😜

This video made me search Indonesian Restaurants in Dubai at midnight. Luckily, I found one that's 10 - 12 minutes away from my place and I am so happy that they serve the famous Soto Betawi and Gado Gado. Oh that fulfillment of being able to satisfy my cravings is just indescribable. No words seriously! (You must know the agony of watching amazing videos like this and all you want to do is to teleport in that restaurant wherever part of the world it is-but you can't). This brings me to the realization why I LOVE watching your vlogs, why I subscribed to your channel and why you're one of my favorites (my favorite, rather). Aside from the fact that you just try everything, you're not scared of trying whatever, you love what one place can offer, you love authenticity and simplicity... what I love about you as a food vlogger is you have the gift of exquisite and refined way of describing tastes. Your description here is the same as how I tasted the Soto Betawi and the Gado Gado I had. You speak tastes and that's really awesome! You don't rate the food but rather you blend in, you appreciate and you understand it. I think this is why Migrationology works!
P.S Your 1M gratitude video inspired me a lot! So thank you ! It's a fact that you can't please everyone but it's a fact as well that you have inspired a lot of your viewers and we love your Oh-so- good facial expression! Keep it up!
God bless you and your beautiful family!

I think the best way is to pour a little sambal to the soup, so if you put sambal on top of rice and take a lot of pickles , you lost the taste of the soup/soto itself. The balance between pickles and sambal compare to nasi and soup/soto is about 1/3 in every single bite of tablespoon..its the best way you can taste the soup/soto and the rest is just supporting taste.

+Mark Wiens and maybe if you went to jakarta next time you should try a Sop Konro, it's kinda similar with coto makassar but, they used a ribs on it and not the organs, it's from makassar too, and one of the most famous Sop Konro in jakarta is Sop Konro Daeng Tata, you should try it! :D

    Indonesia have
    Soto betawi...you already tasted
Soto Kudus, Soto Lamongan, Soto Madura...Soto which came from middle and east java: fresh yellow soup, usually with chicken, served with soun( rice noodle) so many side dish : chicken feats, nternal organs, egg...

Coto makasar, almost SIMILIAR with soto betawi, their soup based from coconut milk, with more darker colour, served with grilled beef and hot sambal
Soto Bandung, a transparancy soup coulor, use beef, lobak, fried soya beans.
Empal.Gentong came from cirebon, almost similiar taste with soto betawi based coconut milk, with more herbs and chili podwer.

The one that you said “dough-y” and floating around your soup is called “emping”. Emping is a crackers made from Gnetum gnemon plant or we call it “melinjo” in Indonesia. It just suits soto betawi 😊

Oh man.. you eat chili more than average Indonesian. LOL.. Optional with Soto Betawi is to add Limo citrus (the one you had with ikan bakar) to the soup, and some sweet soy sauce. It just enhance the whole flavor.
