  • Here you have the real-life test of fuel consumption (fuel economy) in Volkswagen Golf 8 1.5 eTSI Evo MHEV 2020/2021: 1.5 l R4 turbo-petrol engine with Mild Hybrid system, DSG) in a city (also in heavy traffic). This car has 110 kW (150 HP), 250 Nm, FWD and 7-speed DSG. The same engine you can find in: Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon, Audi A3. Results:
    1st test: 4.9 l/100 km (48.0 mpg US / 57.7 mpg UK),
    2nd test: 5.0 l/100 km (47.0 mpg US / 56.5 mpg UK).
    As always, I checked real fuel consumption on a petrol station. I noticed difference: 1% (computer shows 1% smaller fuel consumption comparing to what I refueled).

    I have a 1.0ltr MK8 golf etsi and it absolutely eats the fuel when making short journeys, the mild hybrid technology makes the engine switch off when coasting, even for a split second of taking your foot off the accelerator. This causes the engine to constantly switch on and off

      Isn't that the idea? I've got one on order (coming in a few days) and your comment has somewhat but the fear of God into me. I assumed it would be a bit more economical than the 1.5 eTSI. What kind of MPG do you get on say, a 45m to 1hr run?

    • @MrZhilvinas
      @MrZhilvinas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here, it really _really_ does not like short trips. The issue is not the engine switching off, but rather how long the engine takes to warm up (and that it barely warms up at idle). Before oil is >80C or so it actually does not do any efficiency trickery. Hybrid regen is limited, auto start/stop is limited, engine does not switch off while coasting. Once its warm for me it actually sips fuel at

      well, it's kinda hard to avoid that...
      it's for emission control, because the catalytic converter needs to get up to temperature as fast as possible...

    if it only had a motor to move the car in the take offs, when it goes up to 40liters in instantaneous consumption, with all the features of coasting and cylinder on demand, it really would make a better hybrid than toyota, in terms of fuel consumptions, it already gets 4l100km without the help of an electric motor on the take offs and on small distances here and there, as a full hybrid does. volkwagen really need to get their hybrid game on point, they need to ditch the plug in, we don't need that, and the mild is good, but can do better, so really volkswagen, give us a full hybrid on the base of this eTSI mild hybrid. put a 1.2 kwh battery, a small electric engine, a good hybrid energy managment that cuts the ice as much as possible, and we could have one of the best efficient car

    Bardzo ładne spalanie, udowadnia to jedno - że elektryki są kompletnie nieopłacalne i nieoptymalne do codziennego użytkowania skoro w aucie spalinowym z lekkim wsparciem elektrycznym, które nie podnosi bardzo masy auta i jego ceny można zrobić takie wyniki.
    EDIT: Sprawdzałem teraz także cennik Golfa z tym silnikiem w wersji Style, wychodzi około 130 tys (full wyposażenie) i jest ono porównywalne do Corolli. Jeśli chodzi o systemy bezpieczeństwa pewnie tutaj VW wygląda lepiej jednak jeśli chodzi o samą opłacalność to tutaj Toyota wychodzi do przodu dzięki mniejszemu spalaniu jednak tutaj różnica nie jest duża (tylko i może dla kogoś aż litr :) ) Ciekaw jestem bardzo jak będzie wyglądać silnik 1.0 z miękką hybrydą. Czyżby były realne wyniki rzędu 4 litrów?

    It all depends on what people mean when they say “city driving”. For me, it’s all start and stop driving continuously. What we saw in the video was definite not that. I’m guessing that the consumption would be much higher under the conditions I described.
    It does look like a nice and economical engine though.

    • @1001cars

      Yes, you are right: for many people "city driving" means in reality sth. else. I cannot prepare the test which is familiar with EVERY city scenario. This is why I make tests which are comparable between each other. Can you tell me what avg. speed usually you get?

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is not the case to show fuel consumption exactly at speed xxx or yyy. The thing is to make possibility to compare many different cars in similar conditions. It is obvious that at much lower speed consumption will be higher, but not twice.

    • @alinserban9474
      @alinserban9474 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1001cars în Bucharest, the fuel consumption is measured at litres/hour, not per 100 km. Frequently, 500m are made in 10 minutes. In The last year, 20 km office-home are made in 2 hours. At many cars i have measured the fuel consumption în different scenarios (30 km/h vs 12 km/h) and difference is at least twice.

    first test drive is pointless, it is OUTSIDE of the city. and it barely manages 5l/100 where a 2.0 tdi would do easily better than that.
    2nd also...there are long stretches of road where you can maintain a high speed.
    Try again on city center with actual crowded traffic and city lights. you'll get more like 10.
