I was wondering how these units were in the field. I started on a F6150 with Protest and used one for 12 years exclusively. This past year I got a CMC and why it isn't perfect, I'm really enjoying the experience. I am finding Test Universe much easier to work with than Protection Suite. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
We've had a couple presentations from Doble trying to push the F8. Our consensus as a group was, it has some cool gimmicky colored light rings and is worse in basically every other way. We use our F6150's on IEC61850 with GOOSE (No SV yet) and they work fine. We were missing the hands on demo of an F8 but I'm glad after seeing your first experience that we made the right decision to not pursue the F8.
Oh my god yes! It's terrible. Though I think I forgot to mention that was my favorite benefit over the 6150 was that you can program how loud the beeper is.
I have a few hours with it under my belt but not a ton. I've always used an F6150 and protections suite, and never had a compelling reason to use anything else. I know it's solid hardware and all the guys I know who use the CMC have a similar love/hate relationship with the software. Maybe I'll play with it more at some point and report back.
Seems like they focused too much towards bench testing/manufacturer testing. When we’re working in the field, we don’t want to deck around with changing modules or troubleshooting our test equipment. Just give me a product that works the way it is. I’m supposed to be testing and troubleshooting relays, not test sets.

I found the Omicron software a bit limiting for what I wanted but I never actually got training on it so I'm sure I was missing something haha.
@@testingtechtips try the new Omicron CMC500! That is "the real Device"!
Your rant has me rolling 😂😂😂

Agreed. The 6150 is such a good test set, I'm not sure what the push was to abandon it for F8.
You forgot to mention, is there an embarrassing number of beeps when you open-circuit the current output?

Shermco?
Yup. It's going well so far, compared to my last few gigs!
@@testingtechtipsthat’s where I work too, great company.
Good to hear, I love working for Shermco. Well rounded teams all around. Glad to have you aboard.
Ever played with Omicron?

@@testingtechtips I find the omicron does so much for you it turns you into a push button tester.
We got about 20 6150’s. Few 61850 subs. No one really knows or gives a fuck about that thing. They just sit there. 6150 is where it’s at.
Why mess with it if it works, right?

Couldn't agree more.
