As a new owner to a travel trailer, this is one job I plan on doing myself. It's always good to keep up on the maintenance on any RV and your tips are priceless. Thankyou.
Well done! I used to run a mobile RV repair truck and found that almost never did a unit that ran and cooled needed anything more than a good clean job. (Used to do a lot of entertainer buses and you would have to peel the hairspray off before you could clean the evaporator.)
@@Hugo-Hernandez I left it originally for better income in the medical equipment design and installation business. Now I am 75 and love fixing my own RV and family. 😎
So many forget how important it is to keep the A/C clean and maintained. Especially during the really hot days of the season. So many great suggestion's on the how to's. Great idea for the pad to hold the screws and tools. Keep up the great work!
I was just thinking it was time to clean my AC units and 💥 I run across yur videos and signed up. GREAY VIDEOS, quick and to the point. Thanks for putting these out!!!!!!
People like you are great! You care about the customer. How do you do that with a 'no walk' roof? I have a 2018 ATC 24 RV Toy Hauler. The OM states unless it was optioned, the roof is not supported and no walk. It's aluminum and nothing else.
The best way to do this is to put a blank or covering on the roof and then a 2x6 sheet of plywood to distribute your weight correctly. Also, do not walk on the roof, only crawl.
I have a mildew smells when the ac kicks on. I have had it professionally cleaned each year but the odor remains. I’m going to go up there and open it up and see what’s going on. Any ideas? Where could the mildew be? I clean the filters regularly and have looked into the ducting and the ducting is clean. Any help would be appreciated!
You can, but it would be twice as expensive per can. You can use Frost King on both, which would be cheaper, but it just has a stronger smell. That’s why we use the Nu-Calgon on the evap coils which pull air into the camper.
I bought my unit used. The previous owner was a maintenance nut. He did a complete service before he sold it to me. Back to the point the ac wasn't that cold both units. So I figured low on freon or the Condenser or evaporator coils are dirty. Unbelievable the evaporator coil was filthy. The condenser was clean. I called the previous owner (we became friends) he paid for the cleaning of the A/C units 2 months prior. Needless to say he was ripped off I had to shop vac the dirt and dust off before I could spray the cleaner on it. Anyway the unit is ice cold now. Word to the wise. Check up on service techs make sure your getting what you paid for
First time rv owner and I want to do everything right so thank you for the great video! Would you happen to have Amazon links to both of those cleaners. Thanks
Evap coil cleaner we use (has less chemical smell) is amzn.to/3xWc2UV and the condenser coil cleaner is amzn.to/3y1OPjU If you don’t mind the chemical smell, you could save a few dollars and only use the Frost King (2nd link) on both coils. Here are the brushes we use: amzn.to/3Wh4iqE Thanks for watching!
I have a 2010 Kingsport 380 FRS and wondering before I perform AC maintenance, what is the load limit of the roof? Can't find the information on the web.
Not sure. But a good rule of thumb is, if there is no ladder on your RV, exercise extreme caution when walking on the roof. Be mindful to stick to stepping on the studs/beams of the roof.

Great tip Drew! For those who just want to carry one can of cleaner, can you confirm using the green evaporator can on the condenser? I've used it for my condenser with good results.
One more thing I've noticed your not talking about the inside drip tray, I have the sane ac unit but use Spray Nine to clean the inside rad as per this unit everybody should have a look at that drip tray since it could get clogged, there's a small hole on each side and when they put the ac on the roof, squeeze the 4 bolts it make that drip right on the roof, which could result the unit to overflow in the ceiling. Watch for that!!!
i have same exact unit and i can not find the drip tray.. i have not seen anyone show a video of how to remove a drip tray i can not see or find. coil is sitting on hard foam as the top foam cover. need info help please. thanks
@@eemendi11 the drip tray is under evaporator coil. It doesn't come out. Feel under there and you'll feel where it is. You'll need a long brush to clean out the debri from it or try to clean from under the AC (there's a gap) and you might be able to use a little pick and get to it that way.
If you cleaning it with a brush it may fill the drip hole on each side make sure their clear of debris an make sure those holes are not sitting on the roof because the water could fill the drip tray and go inside your rv there should be a gap between the unit and the roof
Never seen them do that. They’re stainless steel screws unless someone switched them out in the past. Without being there I can’t tell you to drill them out or not. Maybe try using a larger Phillips bit. They should all be Phillips head screws.

Should be cautious when walking on every RV roof 😊 because you don’t know the true condition of it. AND if it doesn’t have a ladder, it wasn’t made for withstanding the weight of walking around on it, so be sure to stay toward the edges, crawl or or use a thin piece of plywood to disperse your weight, or stick to walking on the braces only. Pop your cover off the ceiling and stick your phone up there with a light and take a look. Also, make sure all your vents are open, and your main dump at the AC is closed.
