The Xpeng G6 is a remarkable car, since it's pretty much the first model from any manufacturer that is close to Tesla in every aspect. Yes, it has some more goodies, but the only big difference is that the G6 has 'enhanced autopilot' as standard. Overall the cars are very, very similar. Which one to buy probably comes down to personal taste or brand affiliation.
The comparison in the Netherlands right now (might be different in Australia of course):
    Xpeng G6 Standard Range: €43.000 / power 190 kW / battery 64 kWh / WLTP 435 km
    Tesla Model Y RWD: €45.000 / power 220 kW / battery 60 kWh / WLTP 455 km
    Xpeng G6 Long Range: €48.000 / power 210 kW / battery 87 kWh / WLTP 570 km
    Tesla Model Y RWD Long Range: €49.000 / power 250 kW / battery 75 kWh / WLTP 600 km
    Xpeng G6 Performance: €52.000 / power 350 kW / battery 87 kWh / WLTP 550 km
    Tesla Model Y AWD Long Range: €52.000 / power 324 kW / battery 75 kWh / WLTP 565 km
    Tesla Model Y AWD Performance: €58.000 / power 413 kW / battery 75 kWh / WLTP 514 km
    No comparable G6-model.

But the top priority for people buying cars is the number of seats, followed by the price. If it doesn't have enough or has too many seats, it's a no go immediately. You don't buy a 2+2 for your family of six kids. You also don't buy outside your price range. Much like buying houses, location, location, location. Seats, seats, seats. I particularly like the spacious boot/trunk space (570L), autopilot and self-parking. on paper the Xpeng G6 is superior to the Model Y. but you have to look at the long term. the Xpeng is unproven in its longetivity and reliability in producing regular updates, unlike Tesla which has an already world wide reputation of reliability, ESPECIALLY in China, which is why it is STILL the top selling EV there in spite of its competition selling at much lower prices. also, a few months after G6 is released, you will have the Model Y Juniper. unless you have wads of cash to burn, i'd recommend you wait for the Juniper 1st.

Many people make a great thing about range with I think never really stopping to think about what it actually means.
The oil interests have done a great job of making this a major problem when in fact for the average driver it is anything but a problem.
570 Km range on a single charge is somewhere around six to seven hours of continues driving, in other words almost a full day of doing nothing else other than driving and yes I have no doubt that there will be those who will claim that they need that but they are few and far between. To put that into context that is the equivalent of driving from Sydney to Melborn without stopping and having done that drive I dont think that anyone but a fool would try it without a break.
Yes the public charging network needs to improve but that will happen with time, even the petrol network 40 years ago was such that you had to consider very carefully where you refueled on a long trip and most people carried a reserve can of gas just in case.
The realty is that the average Australian driver drives 33.2 Km per day, that means with a 500 Km range you need to recharge twice a month. How often do most people refuel their gas guzzlers in a month.

I think you may be right about the quality of the Xpeng G6's quality. Everyone likes faster charging and the 800v architecture is the bomb. Tesla needs to convert all it's cars to 800v architecture. The sooner the better. When Tesla Bot becomes a better worker than humans, that will be the superbomb. I can't believe I've lived long enough to see this change. Exciting times!

Agreed. Also what are the servicing costs. And there is the Tesla supercharger network. All very well having this superfast DC charging speed but where are these chargers? Also it has a longer range because it has a much bigger battery so presumably less efficient and therefore more expensive to run. To be fair it is definitely worth a look but I think that the claim that it blows the MY out of the water is a touch presumptive.

Sam, why do you think that Tesla has been holding off on upgrading the Model Y (juniper). They are waiting for the competition to heat up before showing their cards with the Model Y Juniper upgrade. They want to see what the competition has to offer before rolling out the Juniper upgrade. I will be very surprised if the Model Y Juniper is not superior to or at a minimum competitive with the G6 when released. We should know next year.
