Certainly a pop song, but I love it anyway. About those odd noises Kevin was making, I affectionately think of it as his R2-D2 robot sound (from the original Star Wars movie).
Definitely an upgrade over the original imho. That section where they’re all building/ singing different parts is 🔥. They just know how to arrange/ construct and take you on a musical journey and I love it ❤️🙌🙌
I agree Avi's solo music is great and very soulful . Maybe change on the rise or his latest release which is live from Sunset Sound studios called When I'm a Fool.
My ranking system is, how much more did they make me love their version of a song, compared with the original. Based on that, I rate this very highly because I love listening to their cover, while I found the original bland. This feels crunchier", more deconstructed and lively.

For me the song I can no longer listen to is I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston. I'm a 90's kid and can still remember when it came out in 1992. I was in High School and it was all over the place, school dances, radio and of course in the movie The Bodyguard. Looking forward to more PTX reactions and hope you have a great day.

Mitch being the trumpet with his amazing voice is what I love most. Kevin and his unique sounds is super cool too. Avi and his bass, is well, Avi tried and true. I loved how PTX kind of flipped the formula on this one. In the original the vocalist gave a Caribbean vibe but the music was overly produced and poppy...but in this version the vocals are toned-down pop for the music has more Caribbean flair especially the beat box, so for me this song (which was VERY overplayed) is much more tolerable. I love how PTX makes such smart choices in their arrangement.
Kevin Olusola, the beatboxer, is one of the best beatboxers on the planet, if not *the* best. He doesn't need layers to make it happen. Also, some of what you were hearing in the rhythm department was Avi Kaplan, the bass. He and Kevin together were, hmmm, I don't seem to have the right word. Stupendous? Unbelievable? Fantastic? None of those are *wrong,* but they still don't seem to be adequate. I think we need a new word.
This song is a little "teeny bopper" for my taste (could picture the cast of "Happy Days" in the background) but that being said, I think PTX probably did this song as well as it could possibly be done because that's how they do all of their music. Again, not my favorite cover of theirs, but still well done.
I love this version. Every time I hear it I like it better. I absolutely hated the original, so much so I would mute the radio when it came on. PTX made it worthy of listening to. Did I hear Upgrade?
It's like they removed most of the irritating issues in the song. I waited years before listening to their Royals cover because the original version irritated me so much with the smarminess, smugness and sloppiness. It's still not one of my favorite songs, but they clearly understood the problems with the original and cleaned it up into a decent song.
