    For all of you who are saying that this is not an Amish home, or it's "a new sect" of Amish.... I have many many friend in different plain groups. I have been in Mennonite homes, New Order Amish, Old Order Amish, Swartzentruber, and Old German Baptist Brethren homes. This looks very much like a new build home in an an home that is what most people would still call "Old Order Amish". New Order would have electric lights and telephones inside the home. Mennonites would even have computers and watch some educational movies on them. I even know some Mennonites who have internet. Please don't judge out of ignorance. There are many, many, many different Ordnugs who all have their own set of rules and allowances. Gas powered refrigerators, propane stoves, and running water are very very common, even in the more conservative areas. The heat would be a hot water boiler type of heat, not electric baseboards. It's fueled by an outdoor wood burning boiler.

      So long as they believe in Jesus they can choose to live old fashioned or modern. I love those quilts but can't get one as I live in South Africa. If ever I go to America to an Amish town, I would love to buy a quilt❤🤗

    Music drove me nuts. And I got the impression people who live an Amish life live a very old-fashioned way. Meaning no electricity, no indoor plumbing, way off the grid. More like horse and buggy days. There must be different levels of Amish living, so to speak? I also got the impression women don't get their hair done, no makeup, very much like the old days.

    I'm curious as to the use of electrical baseboard heating, indoor plumbing, and the electric range oven there. I didn't think those things were typically in Amish homes. I've heard of some homes using types of solar power.... but NOT typical electricity.....

    A beautiful home ! I love the hardwood floors.I have always envied the Amish for their way of life and their abilities.To take nothing and build something and make it work and enjoy it just has to be absolute happiness in accomplishment.I've read many books and watched documentaries and the Amish are just an amazing group of people.

    I would admire the Amish much more if they weren't the biggest damned puppy millers in the country. And they treat their horses no better.
    Considering that, all their plain lifestyle amounts to is a mask to hide their total lack of humanity.

    They don't have to be electric to be in any Amish home. They can both be LP gas powered, including the refrigerator. It's very commonly found in Amish areas.

    There are amish that still do. This video shows more of a menonite life. The menonite church allows certain luxuries that the Old Order Amish don't. :)

  • @sharid76
    @sharid76 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Guess it depends on your point of view. Also depends on what's allowed in their particular community. Each community sets their own rules for living within certain parameters, called the "Ordnung." It's set by the Bishops, and can govern anything from what kind of buggies they can drive, to what colors are allowed for the clothing, the depth of the hems on women's dresses, the style of the "kapp" that the women wear, to whether they can have LP appliances in the kitchens, and everything else.

    From time to time, people ask me, how can I know that I am saved? How can I really know that I have eternal life? That’s a really important question for every believer. If you don’t have a clear answer, you will live in insecurity and fear. That’s not God’s will for anyone! Some people will tell you that you can’t know for sure whether you have eternal life until the end of your life. How wrong they are! The apostle John says that the reason why he wrote about Jesus is, so that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John @, NIV.) We know that we have eternal life because God has promised it to those who have believed in Jesus (John @; John @). That declaration trumps every other objection we can throw up.

I ask because ive lived in a very small town in upper WI along with the Amish and ive been in many of there homes and none look like this, infact new or old alost all the amish homes ive been inside look the same except for color choices even the furniture styles and set up per room are similar house to house. It is a very pretty home though =) thanks for sharing.

    What about simplicity and modesty and lack of pride? I would consider this home to be luxurious, and extravagant. In New England this house would cost millions.

    • @greenshp
      @greenshp 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Midwest, this is a pretty mainstream typical, simple home. I've been in Amish homes there, and this is typical. There aren't decorations on walls, towels are plain, wood furniture not highly ornamental.... pretty Amish to me.

  • @sharid76
    @sharid76 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This house was also built by expert craftsman who don't build crap, or build "McMansions" - they build quality to last for many generations. Many are expert carpenters and furniture makers, by which they make their livelihood, since farming is so difficult to get into due to the shortage and cost of farmland in their areas. This is why they relocate sometimes, to find small farms they can work with horses.

    I was Amish, and believe me, Amish peoples houses are never always all clean and tidy. And the bedrooms usually have more decorations. Amish people actually have way more decoration then some people think. And the blankets on the bed, while lots of Amish people don't have quilts. They buy their bed sheets and stuff. OK, that's all.

      @ Marth Eicher I'm so sorry. I knew the Amish can be cruel to their ain folk. ie turning against them if they become *English*. I didn't know they're cruel to animals however. It just makes one realise just how hypocritical they truly are.Now I know why for eg in Return to Amish, they were so determined to become English.Poor Horses etc , & yet they claim to love God. I don't think God will be too happy towards them.

    I understand that solar power generated electricity is now acceptable in some Amish homes. This may help us understand the presence of a thermostat and what are possibly electric baseboard heaters. (Although the heaters could be hot water type that use propane or wood fired boilers)

  • @michaeldougfir9807
    @michaeldougfir9807 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, you are right. People who are making comments in many cases should be ASKING, not spouting off.
    Look people, they told you it was a NEW home. And my first readings of running water in Amish homes was for sanitation. Note that.
    Do you know how many Amish church districts there are??? If the leadership in your district or settlement says you can have these ammenities, then you get them as soon as you can sfford them. Or you get them built in when you build a house.
    Out here in the West, our non electric refrigerators run on propane. All my life I have heard of Servel propane fridges.
    Mennonites too have various allowances and restrictions. The next district north of us has different plain clothing. The next district south of us allows non internet computers. One of their ministers talks about his computer frequently, and I think it gives a wrong impression.
    Also, that district south of us has more dedicated peaceniks. We are pacifist too, but you cant talk with a couple of those southern district guys!
    Thank you for this tour. Please remind the viewers about closets, and that the family makes themselves scarce when allowing photography in their home. And I suppose they tidy up real good in preparation for photography, just as we would.
    People, remember the rules (ordnung) change by location and the severity or openness of the local leadership.

    Wanda, I am very familiar with Old Order Amish in the Wisconsin/Minnesota region. There, they would not have brightly-colored quilts in their own homes, although they make them for tourists. The fabrics used would never have any print, either, as the one here on the quilt rack does. Quilts in their homes would be dark, solid colors, although the patterns are very lovely.

    • @Gchupp
      @Gchupp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kristyna Anderson the house is not staged, it is a business in Holmes County Ohio called the farm at walnut Creek, i know this because at the beginning of this process my dad and I helped build this ranch, and I've slept in this house, and the house was built simply to give customers a tour of a amish house ,and cook for special occasions, they are an exotic animal ranch that give tours, the owner also owns lazy 5 ranch in Mooresville NC, so why not use this theme in the center of amish country, Google it im sure they will gladly give you a tour and let you feed a animal or 2 :)

    Are we talking about the same house here? The Amish are expert craftsmen and builders, so it's going to be the best. But I see no Jacuzzis, no extra gadgets in the kitchen, no his-and-her walk-in closets, no wet bar, nothing you would find in a typical million-dollar house in New England or elsewhere. This is a house built for a large family, and built to last.

    Very modern home and nice decoration. But I expected something else. Amish home and Amish areas should be different. That's why I love Amish country.
    One time I visited Amish country in Canada I loved them . Because everything was different.
