I think you should try working with seashore waves audio clip as a controller to generate the same waves in a flip solver -height/loudness & velocity as in movement. I might try this as well once I have a strong understanding of both.

You mentioned the audio input wave needs to be compressed... will that suffice? Or does it need to go through other software?

scenario - live concert with projection mapping of Houdini visuals created from the audio waves.
