      Hi Brian,
      Is there a specific clip you are referring to or maybe a more specific explanation? I try to avoid any kind of confrontation due to anxiety, so it would be good to be able to take something constructive away from this to work on.
      Thanks

      The last clip you not only overtook wrecklessly at a junction but you crossed into the oncoming filter lane, 95% of that incident was caused by you driving impatiently and aggressive. Drivers are being urged to think bike but you hiding in a blind spot, overtaking a car carrying out a manoeuvre and crossing into oncoming lanes.

      In the last clip the first bike is not myself, that is footage off my friends camera, I am the bike that stopped.
      The rider you are referring to you are 100% correct in every point, pretty much every single thing he did in that incident is a good example of what not to do.

    7:31, lets see how self important "you" are. At 7:31 the black car on the left can see the silver Honda is turning left so starts to enter the roundabout, "you" are behind the Honda which hasn't even entered the roundabout yet. At 7:33 the black car is half way across the roundabout and "you" are still not at the junction. As "you" reach the roundabout the black car is moving across the central white painted island so "you" decide it would be clever to drive at the car and nearly cause an accident. It's not "your" road.

      It has been pointed out previously that I was the one who made the mistake here and I agree although approaching a mini roundabout like that knowing that nothing is coming from your right that it is ok to proceed. The black car in question knew I was behind the Honda so I believe they should have waited although I do concede they where on the roundabout first.

    • @josephlarmor550

      Agree 100%. So many drivers think they can do this. The rule is, give way to traffic on the roundabout. Not “come bombing up to the roundabout, expecting everyone else to hang back while you go flying through”. Oh, and at 6:44 yes, you were hogging the middle lane on the Westlink. Not really impressed with your driving, to be honest.

    7:32 I´m planning my first vacation in UK, so I'm watching these videos for preparation.
    One question: in Germany, on a roundabout, the car that enters the roundabout first has the right of way. In the video, the black car coming from the left drives into the roundabout first, but does not have the right of way??? Why ? Is this because this is a very small roundabout?

    7:54, for those of you who don't fully understand UK road law. When you are turning right, the first car may enter the junction in order to attempt the turn. When the light turns orange the person in the junction turning right now has full right of way. People in the oncoming lane no longer have right of way thus must stop on orange light if someone is present in junction attempting to turn right.

  • @grahamdouglas7756
    @grahamdouglas7756 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    4:38 Speed is the exact reason he pulled out in front of you. I bet he looked left saw you looked right saw it was clear and pulled out, I bet he has made that turn over 500 times but you were speeding and he assumed that you were not so he is used to people that are that far away not to come up on him that fast and thought he had plenty of time.

    • @dashcamsni9190
      @dashcamsni9190  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speed definitely a factor in the reason that he pulled out on Phillip but if you examine closely you'll notice that the car doesn't pull up to the junction squarely but at an angle thus making it more difficult to see what was coming from the left and with Phillip being on a motorcycle would be harder to see and they also cut a good chunk off the junction by doing that also. I do agree though speed was a major factor in him nearly having a collision!

    • @phillipadams2671
      @phillipadams2671 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perfectly fair analysis. Yes I was speeding, as you know the speed limit on such a road is 60mph, as you can clearly see I was doing at most 8mph over this. At my slowest speed I am doing 18mph. If I had been doing 50mph, I would still have had to brake hard.

    That last clip, where the bike overtook the left turning car.
    Correct me if I'm wrong:
    1: Bad riding from the motorcyclist, who should have anticipated that this would have happened, and stayed behind the car.
    2: Of course, the car shouldn't have pulled out unless the road was clear. But both riders should have been aware they were in a blind spot up until the point the car turned in. By which time the other driver had committed to pulling out.
    3: Overtaking a turning car by using the right turning lane for oncoming traffic isn't ideal.
    4: I believe this could have been completely avoided had the rider learned defensive riding. When i learned in Australia, they taught us, "Ride as if everyone hasn't seen you". In this situation I would have slowed down. That however probably wouldn't have prevented the careless driver to pull out, but at least reduced the speed of possible impact.
    5: There's not always 1 person to blame, and in this instance both were lucky this didn't end otherwise.

    • @phillipadams2671
      @phillipadams2671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 100% right, not only should he not have crossed the white lines to pass, he simply shouldn't have been passing under such circumstances, like you say it's about riding defensively.
      However, the fact that myself (2nd rider) was on a motorcycle, would not have changed the outcome of this, if I was in a car, we would still have been in the same place at the same time.
      It should also be noted that as the car pulls away at the end it also pulls out in front of a van, making me think they are not the most observant people.

    • @dashcamsni9190
      @dashcamsni9190  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually agree with most of what you have to say but as I'm not a motorcyclist then I'm definitely no expert!
      Yeah I believe he should have stayed behind the car for sure but reviewing again I think a collision would have happened as the first rider then would have been further to the left on the road and not as much time to stop as the second rider and would have had to have moved further to the right to avoid contact. If he had have stayed behind (as he probably should have) I think a collision was inevitable!
      The only reason he was in the on coming right turning lane was the avoid hitting the Clio but I agree he wasn't defensive enough and put himself in that position. I'd rate that as 80/20 or even 90/10 in favour of the Clio. Certainly nowhere near 50/50 for me but as I say I'm not an expert!
      Thanks for your thoughts on this though please feel free to keep commenting, even on my driving! Ha!

    • @phillipadams2671
      @phillipadams2671 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @flip inheck Looking at the positions I'd say you are certainly correct. Had he been more central in the lane he would have been unlikely to swerve around the front, would most likely have collected mid-car. And I know for a fact he would not have had as much braking power that I have to stop.

  • @MrCraigwhyte
    @MrCraigwhyte 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have been a biker for almost 50 years. And please don't think I'm just some old doddering oul eejit, I ride my large touring bike almost every day, I've driven it all over Europe and regularly drive it on motorways and through major cities over in GB. I recently passed my PSV driving test for a minibus which I drive in connection with my work. Passed both theory and practical first time. And I drove front line emergency response vehicles for many years, up to HGV class one. So I know a wee bit about driving, trust me.
    I want to comment on that last clip involving "Philip" on the wee Yamaha overtaking the gold VW Golf which it appears to me was NOT indicating to turn left at a major junction. You are so very wrong if you think that "Philip" has "done nothing wrong".
    Where to even begin with this......
    First of all, he's a learner and a very inexperienced rider. Bear that in mind. The road markings, traffic islands and signs are all screaming "MAJOR JUNCTION AHEAD"
    YOU DO NOT OVERTAKE HERE !!!
    He's FAR too close to the car in front, the Golf. The Clio driver - waiting to pull out - is checking left and right again and again and has a very limited chance of seeing him.
    He actually passes the Golf in a single lane channel right at the traffic island (which as well as being a traffic calming measure, is designed to be a safe haven for for pedestrians crossing a busy carriageway). It's highly unlikely that any driver emerging from that other road could anticipate that some eejit on a nippy motorcycle would be daft enough to squeeze his bike between the car and the traffic island. Try an look at it again from the Clio driver's point of view. The motorcyclist is hidden behind oncoming traffic. She is looking left and right and could easily fail to spot him because of his closeness to the car in front..
    Listen - when you're riding a motorcycle, you always come off second best in an impact with another vehicle. You have to bear this in mind every time you kick that side stand up. It's up to the rider to ride defensively and to make sure that he is clearly visible to other drivers and not to make any daft sudden manoeuvres where he puts himself in danger.
    If he had been clipped by that Clio, I would say he would have been at least 90% to blame.
    And that's from another biker. After looking at the 2nd footage from the following bike, I shudder to think that perhaps you were riding behind him and taking him for some kind of driving lesson in that clip , if you think he did nothing wrong.

    • @phillipadams2671
      @phillipadams2671 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My friend who was on the lead bike was always rather impatient or aggressive when he rode, things such as this clip, rather than just sitting behind the car the extra 2 seconds he would try and nip past without thinking about what's on the other side of it.
      While I wasn't giving him any kind of lesson, just out for a ride round town, I did try and make sure he knew that what he done was stupid and unnecessary. I would rather he had dropped back to at least as far as myself or further, but unfortunately not really anything I could do about.

While the road you're on maybe 40mph, the road to the left where the car is coming from will be no higher than 30mph, maybe even 20mph. I love in NZ and yes they're shocking to9 but unfortunately city driving everyone is stressed out so mistakes happen. What they need to do for be driver training is to cope with stress and concentration. These could be a form of tests instead of just getting behind the wheel or make drivers so a great 2 every 5 years or so. Keeps them educated and safe. Also a road role applicable in the UK vs NZ you can overtake either side on both lanes, it took me a while to realise that here but my first reaction was similar to the driver in the video haha

If you're prepared for it, then reacting angrily is a childish response and therefore you are as bad as the person who cut you u😊

    In my opinion that last one Phillip was in the wrong, the golf was turning in and the person in the clio couldn't see the bike passing the car. In my opinion it's a little dodgy
    The bike should of waited behind the golf

    • @dashcamsni9190
      @dashcamsni9190  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are correct Phillip should not have passed in that way but the Clio shouldn’t have pulled out either without clear line of sight which you obviously fail to mention. Probably a 50:50 in the eyes of insurance if a collision occurred!

      RSScott say whatever you like it’s not lane hogging when it’s just past the point where an on ramp becomes the left hand lane.

    • @rsscott5672
      @rsscott5672 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your logic doesn't really work cos the slip road is never the left hand lane, its a slip road.
      You keep left and if you see a car coming up the slip road and it is safe to do so you move right to allow safe entry on to the motorway then you simply, and try to stay with me here, move back to the left.

      There's no denying he was speeding and should have went past on the right. I am in no way saying he was right to do what he did, especially approaching an on ramp. What he did was totally wrong. What I'm saying is that from the clip provided it appears you are lane hogging. Keep left unless overtaking is the law in Britain and you weren't overtaking

    In my opinion, drivers should be made to do the driving test every 10 years as most people's driving deteriorates with age, a lot of accidents are caused by oaps who's eyesight and reactions are below par and don't get me started on oaps on roundabouts, when most of them passed their test weren't many roundabouts about.

    Some of the drivers of the dashcam cars need to learn a little patience. And the learner motobike rider should absolutely not have been passing a car at a junction. For almost very obvious reasons. Better to avoid an accident than blame someone else for causing one.
