@@gameover9390 I just always assumed that the whole zombies thing and the lore behind it was simply, Germany trying to create super soldiers and instead trying to use dead soldiers as Super Soldiers. Then when Samantha got revealed I changed my opinion
My belief prior to watching this video was literally just One big Evil god (Shadow man) and A good god (Monty) were having a huge ass battle and Earth and the rest of the universe just ended up getting caught in the middle

It's hilarious how 3 hours after it was first mentioned in the video, Yena just admits to being a spy all along, it didn't move the story forward in any way but it was a pretty funny twist to reveal before killing him off, especially with him admitting that his passions are apple pie and baseball to hammer further on Richtofen's stereotypes.
Tbf it's been 20 or so years since Yena hasn't seen Richtofen and he was alone while recording his entry, so it's fine to say it out loud

Treyarch not Activision. Activision as every other publisher has no role in the creation of good thing, they are there just to make as much money as possible and ruin the game for us players.

“We got more than we deserved” explains the whole zombie’s storyline evolution. Started off with no plans just a simple game mode, and grew into something a lot of us grew to love and created memories with others just like us which we will carry with us. So thankful for this franchise and community

I just wanna say that voice acting for radios that 90% of players won't even listen to is amazing. Gersh is my favorite of the bunch.

In my opinion, this, despite its length, is the clearest and most easiest to understand version of the timeline and story I have found.
honestly, i think its cause of the length that it makes so much sense, i've watched like 30 minute videos and 3 hour videos and i never once heard half of the details that are in this
I've been listening to/watching it over the past few days while I play video games, and I gotta say it's the best way to earn the story. Just play your game or do whatever you're doin, while off handidly paying attention. You'll get the big details, and if there's a point you're particularly interested in, just pause for a few moments and pay more attention

Can't agree more. I've been following the story up to around Zetsubo No Shima. It became way to complex to follow along, with all of the twists and turns it took. But this video actually made me wrap my head around it all.
The length just a testament to how much effort was put into this universe
I did it. I watched the entire thing and the best line out of it all was "Draw me fucking Chicago."

Bro the game play was so much fun but I’ll be honest it was the story that held me on for over a decade it easily my favorite. Except for the ending, it felt so rushed

@TeamJella eddy is essentially just young rictofin reincarnated so picking up there would eventually have the same outcome as before I believe. Gotta pick up with russman and the crew in darkness is the only real option I see
@@eugeneberry9371 no? While yes, Eddy *is* Edward Richtofen, the events from before can't repeat themselves. For one, Eddy is much younger than Primis/Ultimis richtofen. Samantha is pretty young during the Cold War and she's older than Eddy, so we know Eddy couldn't be a big scientist for the Nazi party.
Secondly, dude just play cold war and Vanguard, these games take place after BO4 and are still connected to the old timeline. We already know there's a connection to Eddy, if by nothing else, then at least through Samantha.

I love the irony of Samantha and Richthofen becoming the good guys as the years went on to the point they made them start out again in a new universe with a clean slate. I wonder if the Primus crew will make a return in Gulf War this fall, or at least be referenced when Eddie/Richthofen and Samantha inevitably reunite.
I hope primis stays dead tbh this was a satisfying end for them and bringing them back would stomp over their sacrifice

The greatest story ever made was the zombies story what the devs were able to do and tell through a game is absolutely incredible as sad as it is it had to come to an end, with every great story there’s a great ending and this is it
I still wanted to participate in the great war. Maybe we could have had a different ending.
But maybe in another timelime.
After all, there's still another Edward alive. And the transit crew is still alive.
So there's a possibility.

His involvement in everything has been quite unknown

A German who had a Russian, Japanese, and a Mexican for test subjects. Then he "killed" the Mexican and was replaced with an American. Seems pretty balanced to me
I love the small detail that doesn't seem to be talked about often: As time goes on, Richtofen's "Dear diary" entries become increasingly more high pitched, depicting his descent into madness.

This era of COD: Zombies will always be held close to my heart. Its what I grew up on. Its what I spent countless hours with my friends having a good time, laughing, and yelling at one another for messing up an easter egg step. When I first finished the very last egg that ended off this storyline and Nikolai perished alongside everyone else I damn near cried. This video makes me want to go back and play through all my old favorite maps as an adult which I think I might just do. Much love you for making this masterpiece of a video!
The fact that the concept of zombies, angels, monsters, extra-dimensional beings, dragons, giant robots, time travel, and weapons of unimaginable power all work in the same franchise is absolutely baffling, not to mention the fact that you grow such a deep connection to these characters and the stories they tell, this truly is one of the best games anyone can ever play.
Imagine creating an extra mode after you complete a campaign and seeing it uncontrollably spiral into a cult phenomenon

I love how on the timeline one entry states that Maxis is growing concerned of Richtofens erratic behaviour, only to place Samantha in his care on the very next entry.

Legit one of the most tragic stories for Richtofen. I grew up with this series and honestly watching the Blood of the dead easter egg cutscene still hits me in the fucking feels.

When Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen were talking he used their point colors from bo1. Dempsey was white, Nikolai was blue, Takeo was yellow, and Richtofen was green. Amazing job on this!

Ive lost count of how many times ive watched this video. But im happy to give you the watch time, every time i watch this, it brings back so many wonderful memories. God, i loved the call of duty zombies series. I was never deep into the lore of the franchise, nor did i ever do all of the easter eggs. But this is hands down, the best franchise i have ever been a part of, and nothing else will ever beat it. Man, i remember the surprise at the end of the world at war campaign, making it to round 3 and dying to a zombie. Absolute trip. Been here since the start!

I love the fact that the creation of the origins staffs turns out to be a causal paradox. Maxis believes hes creating replicas. When hes actually creating the originals.

I dont think so. I think they are replicas. Just like how richtofen was able to build a time machine during the great war. I kind of assumed with his knowledge and with element 115, richtofen built the staffs. But not sure i guess since then again the staffs were found in origins and the great war was the end. Im just wondering how they got there.

The end of the story literally gave me chills, this is probably one of the best if not the best TH-cam videos I’ve ever seen
I can only imagine the sorrow Nikolai felt for Edward when he realized the truth. That Edward truly did his best to help and save them all but just couldn't accept admitting that he couldn't.

This story has been going on throughout my whole life to see it finally end marks then end of my childhood also the day I found out there was more to zombies than just see how many rounds you could clear was crazy the days I’d figure out how to do all Easter eggs on each map to see the story play out was AWESOME I’d love to see a dedicated zombies aether story as a standalone game
Here's me just wanting something in the background while I do something else, and thinking, "Hey, I never did get the full story of CoD:Z. Maybe I'll give that a shot. It'll be interesting to find out and I don't even have to pay full attention to it."
I ended up so engrossed by the end of it and I'm still in tears over that ending. Thank you for putting this video together.

Great delivery. When alot of the conversations dont really sound like conversations this one is gold. By this I mean you can tell its multiple different takes between lines and they wait until the others lines are completely done

This was exceptional. Thanks for putting this together. It brought tears to my eyes, like the first time I saw Blood of the Dead. It was a pleasure watching and listening to this, so good.
I think what is happening at die rise 03:26:00 is the same thing that happened to the woman looking for answers in Shangri-La about the cast of Call of the Dead. She gets trapped in a time loop but it seems like she has retained some memories or feelings that it happened before like Stoolinger mentioned "Have we been here before?" This calls to me that Richtofen is trying to set up a 'loop' to keep them alive while forcing them to set up the spire in his favor. He is able to stop attempts of them setting up the spire in Maxis's favor, resetting all progress and starting from the beginning to try it again, by sending the hoards to kill the group and repeat the cycle. He gives up on this direction for buried since it did not work at die rise as they were able to set it in Maxis's Favor, and opted for another solution.

@@DulfyBee tldr: there was no good ending to the 2 groups. They had to die in order for the universe and time to get back to normal, and the russian was the only one who could make the choice. He did, he killed them all and himself in one last goodbye party, universe and time got fixed to pre eather shenanigans, and Samantha and Edie (the doctor's soul) left to the new universe.

What a story! Thanks for putting this together. I listened to it most of the day today turning wrenches at work. I knew a bit about the story but this showed me i missed so much. Fook. At the end too. I'm not crying, you are!
As someone with no knowledge of this story, I was expecting it to begin with something like "Mad Nazi Science" or "A cold war project gone wrong." not "Alien beings creating reality".
Technically speaking it did start with mad nazi science. The alien stuff was born in BO2’s Origins map, along with Primus and that essentially took over the comparatively simple original plot.
If you could even call the original ultimus plot of WAW and BO1 simple.
The BoTD easter egg broke something in me when I first did it with 3 other mates of mine. Seeing the sadistic, ruthless richthofen feeling betrayed and left to die when this whole cycle was created only because he wanted to save people who he felt close to that didnt even remember him was damn tragic.
My theory is that Richthofen didn't really die in that chair, he switched bodies with Eddie. That's why he says we won't remember. Because we never got to know him. There's even a German version of that Easter egg cutscene and it mentions dimension 2210 where Richthofen went to retrieve Eddie and bring him to the house. Rictofen was a pretty smart dude.

You guys are also forgetting the Zelda series. It has multiple timelines and in the end, all of them are combined into one with Breath of the Wild.
I’m a new man after watching this, this movie in one sitting. Zombies has always had a special place in my heart, but this brings it to life in a way that I’ve never seen before. Makes the ending to the Aether storyline that much more emotional and impactful. Thank you for this masterpiece of a video.
Every time I try to find zombies lore breakdowns, they always seem unclear or boringly described. This one however Is amazing and exactly explains everything clearly and the pacing and emphasis makes it easy to follow. Thank you so much for this video. Excellent work.

I came back to watch this video again and I realised, Nickolai never needed to die in the end he could've gone with the children because he still had a soul and wasn't on the path that created the loop, I believe he didn't want to go on because of what he'd just done and preferred to die with his friends.
I think maybe that because the four characters were bound together across all time lines because of the elemental shard made it necessary. Not sure tho

Samantha and Eddie were both pure souls thanks to Dr. Monty. Nikolai was not. He still had 115 corruption in him due to exposure and teleportation

I love how Nolan North not only voices Richtofen but also a bunch of other characters in this story. Such a talented voice actor but once you know his voice, you can easily tell its him manipulating it.
I literally pointed it out multiple times too lol. He is probably my favorite voice actor. Nathan Drake and Dr Edward Rictofen

The ending truly did break my heart, seeing what nikolai did not for the world but for his friends as he didn't want them to go through those pains again, it broke me. But it made sense, he chose the lesser of two evils and chose to end it all, he gave a new world a new hope but had to sacrafice what's closest to him to do so. That truly is heart breaking

It pisses me off so much that the dark aether story exists. They took all that pain and sacrifice and said fuck it we need another game to milk. Sure 115, the apothicons, the aether, etc are gone, but now we just have aetherium, and elder gods, and the dark aether. Sam and Eddie don’t even get to live good lives. It’s horrible.

Dude this was amazing I'm not even half way through and so many dots are connecting a lot of characters I was like who TF is this but this video has given me such a better insight on zombies I absolutely love how much lore is in this and how the dots connect 🙏
Best movie I've watched in a long time; huge props to you for taking the time to do this for a game franchise with such a long, amazing, and complex story.
This story is insane, and so heartbreaking as well. It's weird to me that by the end we considered the story "easter eggs". Even now my friends go "lets complete the x easter egg", like, it's so much more then that. The amount of thought that the developers put into making this storyline was insane and the fact it took so long to tell. All of us here are bound to these characters as much as they were bound to each other.
What hurts even more is that we wanted to see him achieve this better tomorrow. We wanted to be there with them as they achieved it.
And to hear that that better tomorrow was never coming. I don't even know how to describe what that felt like.
Their goals were our goals. Everything they fought for we fought for it with them.
In the sea, all that hard work mean nothing in the end.

Idk I’ve heard a lot of people refer to them as quests so you could also look at them as the “story mode” but my main problem with them is how random many of the steps can feel something like the simon says step for moon or placing each of the staves in the giants on origins
@@cancerouscorndog6425i think thats just for the sake of gameplay. It does feel random but just cause it makes the gameplay better.
Because they started as easter eggs in WaW. Treyarch didn't start making a background story for Zombies until Der Riese, and didn't have a main easter egg until Ascension. The easter eggs were also pretty secretive early on, with most players not even realizing a complicated story connected the maps in Black Ops.
Even though they evolved far beyond easter eggs, the community that has been solving them over the years is accustomed to calling them easter eggs because of their origins.
I'm a little under two hours in,, and I gotta say, the way the storyline was put together for this video is great. I've tried watching a number of videos to catch up on the lore, but they're always so convoluted and confusing. This video, however, has so far been very easy to follow. Great work
The radios make parts really elongated, but they provide SO much more than “this happened” does.

It's nice that Nikola finally learned that Ritchofen was trying to save them the whole time.
I grew up with nazi zombies, never paid any mind to the story, always complained that I wish there had been a full on story mode similar to their general campaign. Hearing the story fleshed out over this 7 hour video, was downright captivating, breathtaking, and heartbreaking as fuck. Proved how blind I'd been. So glad I stumbled upon this in my curiosity, thank you so much for this video.
